worth witt plott

 

Mr. Worth Witt Plott, age 88, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, September 11, 2006 at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.  Mr. Plott was born Sunday, February 17, 1918, in Union County, GA to the late Smith Plott and Nora Smith Plott.  He was a member of Youngstown Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Lennar Mason Plott.

Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, Clinton and Barbara Plott of Chatsworth, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Vondell and Homer Powell; daughter, Frances Emerson; daughter & son-in-law, Joelain and Wayne Roberts, all of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Glenda and Randall Dilbeck of Marietta, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Allen and Martha Plott; sister, Ruth Cantrell all of Blairsville; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive, along with many friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Dan Wilkins officiating.  Music was provided by Ned Wilcoxon and Ralph Grice.  Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Franklin Brown, Robert Dilbeck, James Powell, Jeff Edwards, Cody Edwards, and Donald Harris.

The family received friends at the funeral home starting at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 12.

bowman cecil brewer

 

Mr. Bowman Cecil Brewer, age 80, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at Union General hospital in Blairsville.  Mr. Brewer was born Monday, August 9, 1926 in Union County, GA to the late Carl Brewer and the late Maebell Deyton Brewer.  He was a member and deacon of Liberty BAPTIST Church, a member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge F&AM #114, and was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran.  He was service manager for Ware Chevrolet for 32 years, a packing foreman for Georgia Boot for 5 years, and service manager for Dalton Utilities in Dalton, GA.

Survivors included his loving wife, Annie, of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Brenda and Roger McAplin also of Blairsville; brother, Richard Brewer of Smyrna, GA; sister, Thelma Seabolt of Blairsville; sister, Debrah Lashley of Hampton, GA; sister, Janice Hartness also of Hampton; grandhchild, Tyson Lovett, step-grandson, Drew McAlpin, and step-granddaughter, Katie Williams.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 15, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Brent Chatham, Rev. Guy Bradley, and Rev. Luther Thomas officiating.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Thursday, September 14, 2006.

manny largess mcgill

 

Mr. many largess McGill, age 24, of Fair View Church Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2006 in the North Fulton regional hospital following injuries received in a motorcycle accident.  Mr. McGill was born on July 5, 1982 in Murphy, NC, the son of John G. McGill and Pat Largess McGill.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union county School system.  Mr. McGill was a member of the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mr. McGill are his mother, Pat McGill of Blairsville; father, John G. McGill of Hayesville, NC; one brother, John Stanley McGill of Young Harris; three sisters and brother-in-laws, Molly Anne and Scott Sisum of Blairsville, Brec and Bob Bowers of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Pia Louise and Ken Kluth of Blairsville; grandmother, Pia Rita Largess of Blairsville; uncle and aunt, John and Debra Largess of Ellijay; aunt, Linda Spence of Gainesville, FL; aunt and uncle, Lois and Roger List of Newburn, NC; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 18, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the House of Prayer Church with the Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. William Sisum officiating.  Special music was presented by Randolph and Casey Jones.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, matt Atkins, Josh Brown, Richard Spence, Brian Gunter, Marcus McGill, Mitchell Foster, David Davenport, Dan Owens, Billy Schmeltz, and Daniel Hyatt.  Interment followed in the House of Prayer Church Cemetery.  The family will met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9 p.m.

charles (chip) john wedemeyer

 

Mr. Charles (better known as Chip) John Wedemeyer Jr., age 29, of Birdie Lane, Blairsville formerly of Atlanta passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at his home.  Mr. Wedemeyer was born on October 11, 1976 in Gainesville, FL, the son of Jane Bowman Wedemeyer and the late Charles John Wedemeyer Sr.  He was employed as a Day Trader and investor in the stock market by trade.  He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity of Georgia Sourthern.  Mr. Wedemeyer was of the Episcopalian faith.

Surviving Mr. Wedemeyer are his mother, Jane Wedemeyer of Blairsville; an uncle, Henry Bowman Jr. of Beaumont, TX; an aunt, Anne Bowman Page of Panama City, FL; cousins, Candi Hutchinson, Christopher Page, Erin Bowman, and Josie Phelps, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 11 a.m. from St. Clareís Episcopal Church with the Rev. Susan Johnson officiating.  A memorial service will also be held from St. Annís Episcopal Church in Keystone, Fl with interment following the Keystone Cemetery.  Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to your favorite charity in Chipís memory.  The family met with friends on Saturday following the services at the church.

james jerry adams

 

Mr. James Jerry Adams, age 69, of jack Nicklaus Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Adams was born on January 4, 1937 in Andrews, NC, the son of the late Frank D. Adams and the late Maybelle hall Adams.  Before his retirement, he worked as a truck driver with the Kernís Bread Company for over fifteen years.  He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Adams and by his brothers, Harry, Billy, Bobby, Edwin, and Leon Adams.  Mr. Adams was a member of the Valley Town Baptist Church in Andrews.

Surviving Mr. Adams are his loving wife of forty-nine years, Evelyn Hogan Adams of Blairsville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Missy and Morris Mashburn of Blairsville, Kathy and Robert Adams of Canton, GA, Terri and Charles Anderson of Blairsville; three brothers, Ray Adams, Venson Adams, and Kendall Adams all of Andrews; special friends, Phillip and Anne Patton of Blairsville; granddaughter, Nicole and brad Barnes; grandson, Daniel and Joni Colwell; one great-grandson, Jacob Colwell; several step-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wade Plott and Rev. David Anderson officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Phillip Patton, Rex Patton, Mike Patton, Jack Sales, Adam Mashburn, and Matthew Mashburn.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

deborah jean jones

 

Ms. Deborah jean Jones, age 48, of Jones Creek Rd. S. Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2006 in the Emory University Hospital following an extended illness.  Miss Jones was born on August 20, 1958 in Vero Beach, FL, the daughter of Dallas Cecil Jones and Janie Lou Spear Jones.  She had been employed as a LPN Para Pro with the Union County School system.  She had an Associate Degree and was working on her Bachelor Degree on teaching special needs children.  Deborah was a Sunday School Teacher.  Miss Jones was a member of the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Miss Jones are father and mother, Dallas and Janie Jones of Blairsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Dallas Reece and Patricia Jones of Blairsville; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Karan Jones of Blue Ridge, Lois and Jerry Rich of Blairsville; six nieces and nephews, Melissa Standridge, Grant Earl, L/CPL Chad Earl, Jessica Jones, Trevor Jones, and Kelly Jones; four great-nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the House OF Prayer Church with the Rev. Jerry Helton and Dr. Tom Jordan officiating.  Special music was presented by House of Prayer Church Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Paul Holliday, Jeff Jefferson, Chris Busbee, Ed Durbin, Mike Hodges, and Tommy Murphy.  Serving as honorary pallbearer were Nelson LeCroy.  Interment followed in the House of Prayer Church Cemetery.

richard a coddington

 

Richard A. Coddington, age 58, a resident of Hayesville, NC, died Tuesday, September5, 2006.  Prior to living in Hayesville, he was a resident of Blairsville, GA, moving there in 2000 from South Bend, IN.

Mr. Coddington was born Sunday, February 22, 1948 in LaPorte, IN to the late Orville E. Coddington and Ruth (Middledorf) Coddington.  He was raised and educated in LaPorte, where he graduated from LaPorte High School.  He then attended Purdue University, in Lafayette, IN.

In 1977, he became the president of the A.B. Coddington Garment Company, Inc., a three generation owned business, in LaPorte, IN.  In 1983, he was the developer and president of the company En-R-Tech Corporation of America, headquarters in LaPorte, IN.  In 1996, he graduated, magna cum laude, from Bethel College, In Mishawaka, IN with a Masters Degree in Theology.  He received Ordination as a Minister through United Christian Ministries International.  He was a member of the Community Christian Church in New Carlisle, IN where he served as youth director as well as assisted in other ministries of the church.

After moving to the South Bend, IN area in 1992, he served as the Senior Adult Sunday School teacher at the Grace Brethren Church of Mishawaka, in Mishawaka, IN.  He worked as the Manger of the Delivery Department at Home Depot, Blairsville, GA from the time of itís opening in 2002, until his illness occurred.  He was also a Christian Counselor for Adults and did some part time Ministry.

He was the beloved husband of Sherry E. (Dickson) Coddington; loving father of Jon F. Oakley and Julia Kristin Oakley-Coddington all of Hayesville, NC; proud grandfather of Jill Marie, Jonathon S. and Jared F. Oakley and the brother of Robert C. Coddington and wife, Nancy of Chattanooga, TN.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in South Bend, IN.
