Rev.
Leon Henderson, age 57, of Young Harris, GA, passed away Monday,
September 15,
208 at his home. Rev. Henderson was born
Saturday, January 20, 1951 in Union County, GA, to Wayne and Zelma
Plott
Henderson. He was a member of the Day of
grace Baptist Church in Blairsville.
Rev. Henderson had been the pastor of Youngstown Baptist Church
in
Blairsville for 14 years and was currently serving as pastor at Bell
Scene
Baptist Church in Hiawassee. He was
retired from General Motors where he had worked for 32 years. Leon was also a member of the Young Cane
Masonic Lodge #597 F&AM. He and his
wife, Ginger, have been married for 36 years.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Travis Lee and
Joshua William
Henderson.
Survivors
include: wife, Ginger Henderson of Young Harris; parents, Wayne and
Zelma
Henderson, son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Michelle Henderson,
brother and
sister-in-law, Louis and Betty Henderson, brother and sister-in-law,
Larry and
Bonnie Henderson and grandchild, Morgan Riley Henderson, all of
Blairsville. Many nieces, nephews and a
host of friends
also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 2PM from the Day of
grace
Baptist Church with Rev. Hoyt Brown, Rev. Max Padgett and Rev. Ned
Wilcoxon officiating. Music was provided
by the Bell Scene Baptist
Choir and the Eagle Mountain Quartet.
Interment followed in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were the following
gentlemen: Keith Moss, hank McClure, Bud Murphy, Sheldon Henderson, Lee
Griggs
and Wesley McClure. Honorary pallbearers
included: Area Baptist Preachers and Deacons, also, Rick Davenport,
Terry
Jones, Michael Lee, Ricky Rich, Ralph Grice, Russell Legg and Daniel
Moss.
The family
received friends at the funeral home from 6-9 PM, Tuesday, September 16.

Mr. J.L.
Beaver, age 60, of Rocky Top Subdivision, Blairsville, passed away on
Sunday,
September 21, 2008 in the Lanier Park hospital in Gainesville following
an
extended illness. Mr. Beaver was born on
ct. 24, 1947 in Union County, the son of the late Earnest Beaver and
the late
Vestie Thomas Beaver. He was a veteran
of the US Army of the Vietnam War. J.L.
loved going to church and homecomings.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was a native and lifelong resident of
Union County. Mr. beaver
was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Beaver are his loving wife, Carolyn Beaver of Blairsville, two sons
and two
daughters-in-law, Timothy Lee and Laura Beaver of Blairsville, Terry
and Rhonda
Beaver of Blairsville, one sister, Birdie Davenport of Morganton, four
grandchildren, Bret, Samantha, Hailey and Kenneth, several nieces,
nephews, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the
Mountain
View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Luther Thomas officiating. Special music will be presented by Luther
Thomas and Sally Robertson. The
following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Chris and Brian Beaver,
Damon,
Danny and Eric Davenport and Charles Wright.
Interment will follow in the Zion Hill Baptist
Church Cemetery with the North GA Honor Guard conducting Military
Honors. The family met with friends at the

Mr. Ruth
“Tuffie” Louise Brooks, 83, formerly of Blairsville, GA, died Thursday,
September 4 at Sutter Roseville Medical Center near Sacramento
following a
brief illness.
Ruth was
born on 16 November 1924, in South Bend, IN, to Vera and Orrell Ruffner. She attended Purdue University, where she met
her husband, Roscoe “Red” Brooks. They
were married at her home on 15 March 1947.
She worked at Kaiser-Frasier during WWII and later as a gray
lady for
the local hospital. As an Air Force
spouse, Ruth had the opportunity to travel to and live in numerous
parts of the
country, gathering many wonderful friends and experiences along the way.
In 1970,
Ruth and her husband set off on their greatest adventure together,
spending the
next fifteen years sailing around the world aboard their 35” sailboat
Tuffie. Upon their return, they built a
home and settled in Blairsville, GA, where she loved over 20 years
until she
moved to California with her daughter and son-in-law.
Ruth’s
hobbies and interests included playing bridge, skiing, flower
arranging,
crossword puzzles, backyard bird and squirrel watching, gardening, and
traveling throughout the world with her daughter. She
was a gifted story-teller with a rather
dry sense of humor that she retained until the end.
Ruth is
survived by her son Patrick, her daughter Sandra, her grandchildren
Patrick
Burway, Maxwell Brooks, and Alexander Brooks, and her
great-grandchildren Caleb
Tyler Burway and Ashtyn Paige Burway.
Ruth’s life
will be celebrated at a private remembrance in Blairsville in a few
weeks
time. Her remains will rest with her
husband, Red, and her dogs.
Ruth was
preceded in death by her husband Roscoe, grandson Brian Burway, and brothers John and Leland Ruffner.

Linda Sue Ledford, age 63, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday,

16, 2008. Mrs. Ledford was a native of
Towns County, GA, and was born on Saturday, June 17, 1945, a daughter
of the
late Tommy Edwards and Velma Burrell Edwards.
She had lived in Paulding County, GA, for several years, and
moved back
to this area four years ago. Mrs.
Ledford was a member of Whitworth Memorial Baptist Church in Dallas,
GA.

Mr.
Delbert
Meador, age 80 of Nottely Dam Rd., Blairsville, passed away on
Thursday, Sept.
18, 2008 at his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Meador was born on Feb. 11, 1928 in Hinton, WV, the son of
the late
Green Washington Meador and the late Esther Meador.
Delbert and his wife Ruby moved to
Blairsville in 2000 from WV. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Arlene Harmon in 2004.
Mr. Meador was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving
Mr. Meador are one daughter and son—in-law, Pam and Frank Mullen of
Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Nicole Meador of
Blairsville, three sisters, Norma Frazier, Pauline Lilly and Lela
Conner all of
WV, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Billy and Carlotta Meador of
Akron, OH,
Phillip Meador of WV, two grandchildren, Patrick Mullen and Steven
Meador,
several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial
service will be held at a later date. In

Mr.
Orzona Rogers Fisher, 33, of Clinton, AR, formerly of Hayesville, died
Friday,
Sept. 5, 2008. She was a native of Union
County, GA, but had lived in Hayesville most of her life.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist
faith.
Surviving
are her husband, Lynn Fischer; two daughters, Savannah Jones and Aiden

both of the home; a son, Jacob Jones of the home; her father and
step-mother,
Zane A. and Kathi Winkler Rogers of Hayesville; her mother, Edna

of Clinton; her paternal grandmother, Willa Mae Freeman Rogers of
