mrs. mary nichols hawkins

Mrs. Mary Nichols Hawkins, age 67, of Rocking Horse Farm Road, Blairsville, formerly of Culberson, NC, in the Sweetgum Community, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2002 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Hawkins was born on April 30, 1935 in Fannin County, the daughter of the late Asbury William Nichols and the late Aurora Patterson Nichols.  She was a member of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.  Mrs. Hawkins was also a member of the ladies Tuesday evening prayer meeting group.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John Laymond Hawkins in 1964.

Surviving Mrs. Hawkins are four children and two son-in-law, Ira Ray Hawkins of Mineral Bluff, Sandra Jean and Lee Chitwood of Blairsville; Kyle L. Hawkins of Mineral Bluff, Glenda Gale and Rickey Rice of Mineral Bluff; four sisters, Ruth Nichols Hollifield of Mooresboro, NC, Florence Nichols Quackenbus of Murphy, Willia Dean Nichols Ware of Mineral Bluff, Carolyn Nichols Ware of Murphy; one brother, James Nichols of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Audrey Nichols of Albany, GA; five grandchildren, Jason Rich, Tiffany Chitwood, John Hawkins, Jared Hawkins, and Jathan Hawkins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at 11 am from the Mt. Herman Baptist Church with Pastor Hadley Shields officiating.  Special music was presented by Charlotte Flowers.   Serving as pallbearers were Ira, Kyle, John, Jared and Jathan Hawkins, Jason Rich and Tiffany Chitwood.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Hawkin’s nephews.  Interment followed in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. geraldine davis russell

Mrs. Geraldine Davis Russell, age 60, of Trillium Trail Blairsville, formerly of Sarasota, FL passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Russell was born on October 24, 1941 in Sarasota, FL, the daughter of the late Edgar Myrle Davis and Allie L. Messer Davis.  She and her husband, James, moved to Blairsville in 1993.  She was a Christian and had an intense love for all of God’s creatures.  Mrs. Russell enjoyed painting water colors, cooking, bird watching, riding her three wheel motorcycle, and most of all she loved being with her husband

Surviving Mrs. Russell are her loving husband of forty years, James L. Russell of Blairsville; mother, Allie L. Davis of Sarasota; three sisters, Delores Castoro, Linda M. Rizzo and Cathy Long, all of Sarasota.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, September 21st at 2 pm at the Trackrock Chapel with the Rev. Asbury Craft officiating.  If you wish, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Blairsville Animal Shelter in Mrs. Russell’s memory.
