william c. “billy” henson

 

Mr. William C. “Billy” Henson, age 76 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, September 21, 2007 at his residence.  Mr. Henson was born Thursday, December 18, 1930 in Union County, GA to the late Boyd Henson and the late Gertrude Hemphill Henson.  He was a member and a Deacon of Liberty Baptist Church and was preceded in death by sisters, opal Henson, Fannie Owenby and Delores Knight; brothers, John, Derwood and Jimmy Henson.

Survivors include: wife, Frances Deyton Henson of Blairsville, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Rita and Harold Killian of Foley, AL; daughter, Patsy Plott of Blairsville, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Angie and Junior arrant of Blairsville, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Leslie and Jason Hughes of Blairsville, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Melissa and Eric Collins of Blairsville, GA; son, Larry Henson of Blairsville, GA; brother, Bobby Henson of Blairsville, GA; sister, Sue Stephens of Blairsville, GA’; grandchildren, Jody Killian, Alicia Franklin, Lauren Padgett, Nora Milam, Jeremiah Plott, Will arrant, Hannah Hughes, Hunter Hughes, Chandler Collins and Ansley Collins; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 4 p.m. from the Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Chatham, rev. Guy Bradley and Rev. David Atkins officiating.  Music was provided by Liberty Baptist Church Choir.  Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Jody Killian, Jeremiah Plott, Will Arrant, Nemo Milam, Greg Franklin and Hunter Hughes.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund or The Gideons.

jermome donald beitzinger

 

Mr. Jerome Donald Beitzinger, age 84, of Cane Hollow farm Rd., Blairsville passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2007 in Baldwin County, GA following an extended illness.  Mr. Beitzinger was born on March 29, 1923 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of the late Alois Beitzinger and the late Katheryne Nagal Beitzinger.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army of WWII and was present at the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  During his service he received several medals and commendations.  He had lived in Union County since 1997, moving here from Seminole, FL where he lived for over fifteen years and was originally from Milwaukee, WI.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Christine Boadis Beitzinger and a brother, Alois Beitzinger.  Mr. Beitzinger was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Surviving Mr. Beitzinger are his two closest friends, Gloria and Jim Hooper of Blairsville and Seminole, FL; a host of friends in Seminole, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Entombment was held on Monday, September 24, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum in Milwaukee, WI where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Mary.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, you may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in Mr. Beitzinger’s memory.

louise bradley

 

Mrs. Louise Bradley, age 82 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Union County Nursing Home.  Mrs. Bradley was born Thursday, September 3, 1925 in Union County, GA to the late Bascom Mauney and the late Beedie Davenport Mauney.  She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.  She had worked for Bell Bomber for several years during WWII and worked 25 years at Owenby manufactory plus being a full time mother.  She was preceded in death by husband, Wayman Bradley and brother, Harrell Mauney.

Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, Dennis and Beverly Bradley; son, Kenneth Bradley; daughter, Sandra Bradley; son & daughter-in-law, Milton and Kay Bradley; daughter & son-in-law, Janet and Tony Harkins; sister, Evelyn Mauney, all of Blairsville, GA; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 24, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Seay and Rev. Guy Wayne Shook officiating.  Music was provided by Carol Renshaw, Amber Renshaw, Tina Gray and Heather Henderson.  Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist.  Serving as pallbearers were: Mathew Bradley, Tucker Harkins, Andrew Bradley, Taylor Harkins, Jeff Boyd and Jason McCarter.

george leroy ross, jr.

 

Mr. George Leroy Ross, Jr., age 84, of Fern Valley Ln., Blairsville formerly of Mobile, AL, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Ross was born on December 19, 1822 in Mobile, AL, the son of the late George Leroy Ross, Sr. and the late Mary Maude Miller Ross.  He was a veteran of the U.S. navy of WWII.  He was a member of the VFW and the Honor Guard in Mobile and a member of the Union County Lions Club in Blairsville.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert J. Ross and Gerald M. Ross.  Mr. Ross was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Ross are his loving wife, Hazel Parker Ross of Mobile, AL; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Keith Smith of Blairsville; one sister, Daisy Price of Crystal River, FL; one brother and sister-in-law, William R. and Mary Ross of Gulf Shores, AL; three grandchildren, Tabitha and Adam Northcutt and Renee Smith; five great-grandchildren, Brice Blosser, Christopher Northcutt, Rachael Miller, Brian Alford and Christian Smith; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 7 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Father Richard Wise officiating.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of the Union County Lions club.  Interment and graveside services were held on Friday, September 21, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, AL.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-9 p.m. and on Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m.

richard (buz) jones

 

Richard (Buz) Jones, 72, of Blairsville, GA died Thursday, September 20, 2007.  His family is from Smyrna, GA.  Mr. Jones was a member of First Christian Church of Marietta.  Mr. Jones retired from Lockheed.  He was also a devoted member of Samuel Lawrence Lodge 721, Scottish Rite Bailey of Atlanta and Shrines Yaarab Temple of Atlanta.

Mr. Jones is survived by his daughter Cindy Perry of Blairsville, GA and her husband J.C. Perry; son Jeff Jones of St. Lauderdale, FL; sisters Ina Laura Wilson of Hiram, GA, and Arline Parker of Charlotte, NC; and a brother, Phillip Jones of Smyrna, Ga.  Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, Mandi Perry, Madison Jones and Anabelle Jones as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 22nd at the Jonquil Chapel of Castellaw Funeral Home with Steve Jones officiating.  The family received friends on Friday, September 21st from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Castellaw Funeral Home.  Interment was at Kennesaw memorial park with Steve Jones officiating.  The Castellaw Funeral Home of Smyrna was in charge of arrangements
