 wilburn bruce payne

 

Mr. Wilburn Bruce Payne, age 101, native and lifelong resident of Union County, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2006 in Union General Hospital.

Mr. Payne was born Monday, March 20, 1905 in Union County, to the late Levi and Josephine Pickelsimer Payne.  He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and had worked hard all his life as a farmer.  Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his wife Nellie Dyer Payne in 1996.

Survivors include: son, Ernest A. Payne; daughter, Louise Worthington; daughter, Ethel Ann Payne; all of Blairsville; Eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 22, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Youngblood and Rev. Earl Pickelsimer officiating.  The body was placed instate at the church at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Dennis Worthington, Gary Payne, Anthony Payne, Melvin Payne, Christopher Payne, and Johnny Wallace.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 5-9, Thursday, September 21.

agnes calamari

 

Mrs. Agnes Calamari, age 90, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, September 18, 2006 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville, GA.

Mrs. Calamari was born Saturday, June 10, 1916 in Verona, KY, to the late Lawrence Schulker and Barbara Elliott Schulker.  Mrs. Calamari was a homemaker.  She had made Blairsville her home for the last 20 years.

Survivors include: her husband, Joe Calamari of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Phyllis and Don Nagel of Asheville, NC; daughter & son-in-law, Patricia and Bob Hosack of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter & son-in-law, JoLinn and Mike Bingle of Jefferson City, TN; step-son & wife, Joseph and Diane Calamari of Stuart, FL; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 11 A.M. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Don Nagel officiating.  Music was provided by Kelly Belloise.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Bob Hosack, Rob Hosack, Bren Hosack, Scott Hosack, Mike Bingle, and Bob Sanchez.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Wednesday, September 20.

mckira west, sr.

 

Mr. McKira West, Sr., age 97, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away Monday, September 18, 2006 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, GA.

Mr. West was born Tuesday, September 29, 1908 in Cairo, GA, to the late David Walter West and Fleeta West.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville; had been a member of the masons for 65 years, and was a Shriner for 25 years.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Estelle P. West and his second wife, Faye Todd West and son, McKira West, Jr.

Survivors include: step-daughters, Audrey Moore, Genevive Register, Elverta Kenney, and Sharon Johnston; daughter-in-law, Alice West, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Many friends also survive.

Graveside services were held Friday, September 22, 2006 at 2 p.m., from Jacksonville memory gardens.  Interment followed in Jacksonville memory Gardens.

The family received friends at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Hendricks Avenue, in Jacksonville, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 21.

carter lee seabolt

 

Little Carter Lee Seabolt, age two days old, went to be with Jesus on Sunday September 17, 2006 from the TC Thompson Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.  He was born on September 15, 2006, the son of Clint Seabolt and Brooke Murphy Seabolt.

Carter leaves behind his parents, Clint and Brooke Seabolt of Blairsville; his grandparents, Bobby and Brenda Murphy of Blairsville; Tommy and Diane Stephens of Blairsville, great-grandparents, June and Sue Stephens; aunt; Dana Stephens Craig; uncle; Derek Stephens, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Special music was presented by Scott lance.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, David Dyer and Derek Stephens.  Interment followed in the Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to a fund set up at Appalachian Community Bank to help with medical expenses.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m.

willie nicholson mauney

 

Mrs. Willie Nicholson Mauney, age 98, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Union General Hospital.  Mrs. Mauney was born Tuesday, October 22, 1907 in Union County, Georgia, to the late Robert Nicholson and the late Lenore Sullivan Nicholson.  She was a lifelong resident of union County and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  Mrs. Mauney was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Mauney; a daughter, Mary Stephens and a grandson, Alex Mauney.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, William Robert and Cleo Mauney of Gastonia, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Jimmye and Willard Floyd; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Mary Lou Mauney, all of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Franklin and Susie Mauney of Rome, GA; and sister, Beulah Deets of Hiawassee, GA, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren also survive..

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. B.A. Buchanan and Rev. George Cline officiating.  Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 12-2, Tuesday, September 26.
