mrs. dorothy lorber smith

 

Mrs. Dorothy Lorber Smith, age 82, of Haizlip Ridge, Blairsville, Georgia formerly of Bedford, PA passed away on Monday September 12, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Smith was born on September 2, 1923 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Charles Adolph Lorber and the late Anna Hildegarde Lorber.  Mrs. Smith was a graduate of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.  She was a retired teacher with over twenty five years of service with the Miami, FL and Bedford, PA Schools systems.  She was a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Assn.  Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church.

Surviving Mrs. Smith are her loving husband of sixty two years Fred Shannon Smith of Blairsville, formerly of Bedford, PA, their four children, Dorothy J. Smith of Coral Gables, FL, Fred J. and Rita Smith of Atlanta, Diane and James Widmer of Alpharetta, Richard and Deborah Smith of Blairsville, one sister, Anne Ingle of Tallahassee, FL, one brother, Charles Lorber of NY, Ten grandchildren, Seven great grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday September 15, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. from the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church with Father Richard Wise officiating.  The Family members served as pallbearers, Jim Widmer, Casey Smith, Todd Smith, Brennan Smith, James Smith and Patrick Smith.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery.

mrs. lannie victoria mahaffey

 

Mrs. Lannie Victoria Mahaffey, age 100, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Union County Nursing Home.  Mrs. Mahaffey was born Thursday, May 25, 1905 in Union County, GA to the late James B. Self and the late Sarah Frady Self.  A member of the First United Methodist Church of Union County, she was preceded in death by her husband, Plomar Mahaffey, a daughter, June Mahaffey Truelove and sons, Bill and Cline Mahaffey.

Survivors include: son, Don Mahaffey of Blairsville, GA; grandson, Stanley Trulove; granddaughter, Barbara Freeman; grandson, Charles Trulove of Blairsville, GA; granddaughter, Beth Patterson of Blairsville, GA; granddaughter, Sherry Murphy; grandson, Mike Mahaffey, granddaughter, Susan Walker and granddaughter, JoAnn Mahaffey. 10 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with the Rev. Guy Bradley officiating.  Music was provided by Mike Mahaffey and the Kelley Trio.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Charlie Trulove, Stanley Trulove, Gerald Patterson, Knox Dayton, Clarence “Buddy” Payne, Mike Mahaffey, and Bob and Todd Murphy.

mrs. mary giamportone

 

Mrs. Mary Giamportone, age 93 of the Gainesville Hwy., Blairsville, formerly of St. Clair Shores, MI, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following a brief illness.  Mrs. Giamportone was born on January 6, 1912 in Anita, PA, the daughter of the late Charles Cutense and the late Bessie Dimino Cutense.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Giamportone in 1985, also by six brothers and two sisters.  Mrs. Giamportone attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church.

Surviving Mrs. Giamportone are one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Barbara Giamportone of Blairsville, one daughter and son in law, Margaret and Robert Mikszewski of Clinton Township, MI, one sister, Susan Laaks of Pittsburg, PA, one brother, Anthony Cutense of Pittsburg, six Grandchildren, David Mikszewski, Maria Anderson, Michael, Ronald, Robert and Joseph Giamportone, six Great Grandchildren, three Great-Great Grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date in Michigan and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mrs. Giamportone’s memory.
