Ms.
Elenore Laura Phillips, age 79, of Gum Log Rd., Young Harris, passed
away on
Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 in the Union County Nursing Home following an
extended
illness. Ms. Phillips was born on Aug.
10, 1929 in Union County, the daughter of the late Emory O. Phillips
and the
late Flossie sparks Phillips.
She was a lifelong resident of Union and
Towns Counties. Elenore was a loving
sister and aunt. She loved to cook for
others and loved gardening. Ms. Phillips
was a member of many Forks Baptist Church.
Surviving
Ms. Phillips are three brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Revonda
Phillips of
Blairsville, Ron and Ginner Phillips of Young Harris, Robert and Pearl
Phillips
of Young Harris, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Doug Queen
of
Hochton, GA, Wanda and James Crisp of Murphy, NC, several nieces,
nephews,
cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. from the
Mountain
View Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Seay and Rev. Junior Killian
officiating. The following gentlemen
served as
pallbearers, Roger, Ronnie, Alvin and Junior Phillips, Dwayne Ramey,
David and
Tony Crisp. Serving as honorary
pallbearers were Troy and Hal Phillips.
Interment followed in the Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family met with friends at the funeral
home on Saturday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Tommie
W. Alexander, age 83, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, GA,
passed
away Sunday, September 21, 2008 at his home.
Mr. Alexander was born Thursday, July 23, 1925 in Union County,
Georgia
to the late Ed Alexander and the late Hattie Hunter Alexander. Mr. Alexander was a veteran of the U.S.
Army. He was a member of the New Liberty
Baptist Church, and a former member of the Union County lions Club. He was instrumental in the formation of the
Blairsville-Union chamber of Commerce.
With his wife he owned and operated the Trackrock Campground,
which they
opened in 1966. They also owned and
operated Trackrock Stables. He was
preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Alexander, and brothers, Jimmy
and Hoyt
Alexander.
Survivors
include his loving wife, Martha Alexander of Blairsville; daughter and
son-in-law, Mary and Yasha Manzy of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law,
Linda and
Gary Maddox; son & daughter-in-law, frank and Debbie Alexander;
daughter,
Sonya Alexander and sister, Bernice Gibson, al of Blairsville;
grandchildren:
Isreal Alexander of Franklin, North Carolina; Brad Rich and Christie
Rich, both
of Blairsville; and Minka Alexander of Stillwater, OK.
Three great grandchildren and many nieces,
nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 2 PM from the
Chapel of the
Cochran Funeral Home with the rev. Jim Geer officiating.
Interment followed in the New Liberty Baptist
Church Cemetery. Music was provided by
Mr. Claude Duffey. Serving as
pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Eddy Alexander, Tim
Cristofaro,
Russell Fortenberry, Frank Alexander, Isreal Alexander and Brad Rich. North Georgia Honor Guard Members presented
Military Rites.
The family
received friends at the funeral home from 5-8 PM, Tuesday, September 23.

Mary
Lou Dyer Collins, age 75, of Skylark Place, Gainesville, GA, passed
away,
Tuesday, September 23, 2009 (sic), at her residence following an
extended
illness.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of memorial park
Funeral Home
with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The reverend Richard Thomas and reverend Jeff
Lovell officiated. The family received
friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday evening at the funeral
home.
Mrs.
Collins was born December 13, 1932 in Union County to the late George
and Ida
Mae (Crumley) Dyer. She was retired from
Warren Featherbone and was of the Pentecostal faith.
She was preceded in death by her son, Doyle
Collins, Jr. and 3 brothers, Will dyer, Ervin Dyer and Lee Dyer.
Survivors
include her husband of 58 years, Doyle Collins of Gainesville; brother,
Buford
Dyer of Cleveland, sister, Kate Self of Cleveland; sisters and
brothers-in-law,
Ruth and R.L. Arrington of Blairsville, Elease and A.C. Duckworth of
Gainesville; sister-in-law, Ruby Norton of Blairsville; and a number of
nieces,
nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and other family and friends
also
survive.

Mr.
Howard
E. Conley, 79, of Cobb Mountain Circle, Blairsville, GA, passed away on
Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 in the Union General Hospital following a
brief
illness. Mr. Conley was born on July 31,
1929 in Morral, OH, to the late Roy and Opal (Watts) Conley.
He is
survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Herbert) Conley, one
daughter,
Christine (Christopher) Stromberg of Wilmington, OH, and four sons:
Steven
(Veronica) Conley of Delphos, OH, Jeffrey (Tammy) Conley of Xenia, OH,
Douglas
(Lorinda) Conley and Todd (fiancée Tina Gelter) Conley both of Ft.
Myers, FL;
seven grandchildren: Carly (Stromberg) page, Drew Stromberg, Matthew,
Veronica
and Tyler Conley, Erika (Haynes) Nosker and Benjamin Conley; two great
grandchildren: Aidan and Elijah Nosker.
He was
preceded in death by two brothers, James and Russell Conley.
Mr. Conley
was a US Air Force veteran who served in Greenland during the Korean
War. He retired from General Telephone
Company
with over thirty-two years of service.
He loved dancing with his wife, and enjoyed hunting, fishing,
golfing
and camping with his family and friends.
He played a good game of euchre and was a long time member of
both the
VFW and the American Legion.
Graveside
services will be held on Saturday October 11, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Meeker
Cemetery
in meeker, OH. Memorial contributions
may be made to the Glenda Gooch House of Blairsville or St. Jude’s
Children’s
Hospital.

Mrs.
Jearldean Gillman, age 63, of Skyline Drive, Blairsville, formerly of
Naples,
FL, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at her home following an
extended
illness. Mrs. Gillman was born on Nov.
9, 1944 in walker County, AL, the daughter of the late James Louis
Baldwin and
the late Wilodean Brown Baldwin.
Jearldean had a passion for traveling, she loved cooking and
gardening. She was a loving mother and
grandmother. She was preceded in death
by her former husband, Ralph Gillman, sister, Jeanell Brennan and a
grandson,
Phillip Michael Gillman. Mrs. Gillman
was a member of the United Methodist Church of Freeport, FL.
Surviving
Mrs. Gillman are her former husband and companion, Donald Freeman of
Freeport,
FL, one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sherri Gillman of Freeport,
two
daughters and sons-in-law, Denise (Aldrich) and Corey Reid of
Blairsville,
Traci and Scott Wasko of Blairsville, one brother, Larry Gene Baldwin
of Santa
Rosa beach, FL, one sister, Jodi Baldwin of Naples, FL, nine
grandchildren,
Steven, Andrew and James Gillman, Brandon, Aaron and Ryan Aldrich,
Tiffani,
Nicole, Caitlin and Olivia Wasko, several nieces, nephews, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 at 1 p.m. from the funeral
home
chapel with the Rev. Leon McDonald officiating.
The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday from
10-2.
