Mr.
Tensley “Ed” Thomas, age 75, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Sunday,
September 21, 1997 in Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr.
Thomas was born in Union County, Georgia, on April 13,
1922, a son of the late Paul Thomas and Elsie Rogers Thomas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served
during World War II. Mr. Thomas worked
in Flint, Michigan for 30 years, and returned to Blairsville in 1980. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Mr. Thomas had taught Sunday School and Children’s church in Baptist churches
for over 30
years. He had been preceded in death by
a daughter, Rachel Mooney, in 1996 and a brother, P.L. Thomas in 1987
Surviving
are his wife, Mrs. Monita Hall Thomas of Blairsville, GA.; a son, Rev.
Steven
Thomas of Carleton, Michigan; a daughter, Nancy Huff of Columbus,
Georgia;
brother, Joe Thomas and sister, Maebell Hughes, both of Jacksonville,
GA.;
sister, Earleen Huggins of Bristol, VA.; and sister, Ivalee Sims of
Young
Harris, GA.; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and nieces,
nephews
and other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 24, 1997 at 11 .m. from Faith
Baptist
Church with Pastor James Brock and Rev. Steven Thomas officiating. Special music was presented by Mrs. Teddy
Clark, Clarke Hugg, and Mrs. Sandra Brock.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Clinton Droze, Norman Bachelor, Ben Huff, and
Ray Douglas. Interment was in Laurel
Hills Cemetery in Hiawassee.

Mr.
David Darryl Woody, age 44, of 3872 Woody Lane, Suches, GA, died
Monday,
September 22, 1997 at his residence.
Mr.
Woody, native and lifelong resident of Union County, was
a self employed welder.
Survivors
include his wife, Diana Woody of Suches; brothers,
Henry Woody of Clermont, GA., Lee Woody and Daniel Woody, both of
Suches.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, September 25, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the

Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega GA.
Interment followed in the Woody Cemetery in Suches, GA.

Jewell Stephens, age 72, of East Point, GA, passed away September 19,
1997 I
North Fulton Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Mr.
Stephens was born in Union County, GA., a son of the
late George and Sally Stephens. He was a
member of the First Baptist Church in College Park, GA.
Mr.
Stephens was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen
Morris Stephens, in 1995.
Surviving
are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Diana Stephens of Snellville,
GA.; two
grandchildren, Elizabeth and Mark Stephens, also of Snellville, GA.;
two
brothers, J.C. Stephens and McKinley Stephens, one sister, Betty
Stephens
Barnes, all of Blairsville, GA.; a number of nieces and nephews also
survive.

were held September 22, 1997 at College Park, GA. With
Rev.
Walter Huff officiating.

Mrs.
Marian D. Jones, age 83, died September 23, 1997 after a lengthy
illness in
Ormond Beach, FL. Born in Ohio, she was
a resident of Jupiter, FL., for 30 years before moving to Blairsville
in
1990. She resided in Lakeside
Village. She was a member of the First
United Methodist Church of Union County.
Marian is
survived by sons Thoams, his wife, Suzie, of
Jupiter, FL., James, his wife, Linda, of Palm Coast, FL.; daughters,
Kathleen
of Naples, FL., and Wendy Patrick and her husband, David, of Woodland, WA.; a brother, Lloyd of Williamsburg, VA.; a
sister, Betty
Hanner of Dover, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, and son,
David.
Arrangements
were by Craig Funeral Home of Palm Coast,
FL. Cremation and private family serves
were planned.
Memorial
contribution may be made in her memory to the First
United Methodist Church of Union County, Memorial Building Fund.

Mr.
William Henry Foster, better known as “Henry”, age 95, of Blairsville,
Georgia,
passed away Sunday, September 21, 1997 in Union County Nursing Home in
Blairsville.
Mr.
Foster was born in Union County, Georgia, on February
17, 1902, a son of the late John William Foster and Amanda Thomas
Foster. He lived in the Blairsville area
until 1943,
when he moved to Marietta. Mr. Foster
moved back to Blairsville in 1987. He
had worked as a carpenter, and also worked for the Tumpane Company for
many
years. Mr. Foster was a member of Sandy
Plains Baptist Church in Marietta.
Surviving
are his wife, Flora Mae Warren Foster of Blairsville; a son, Wendell H.
Foster,
also of Blairsville; grandson, John William Foster of Norcross, GA, and
a
granddaughter, Nancy Yvonne Foster of Culver City, California.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, September 25, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the
chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine
Young. Interment was in Mt. Zion
Cemetery.

Mrs.
Grapelle Pickelsimer, age 82, of Suches, Georgia, passed away Saturday,
September 27, 1997 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Mrs. Pickelsimer was born in Union County,
Georgia,
on June 2, 1915, a daughter of the late Lewis Grizzle and Milberry
Jarrard
Grizzle. She was a homemaker and a
lifelong resident of this area. Mrs.
Pickelsimer was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
Surviving
are her husband, Hub Pickelsimer of Suches; daughter and son-in-law,
Bessie and
Robert Bridges of Suches; grandson, Jody Bridges of Suches; and three
sisters,
grace Abercrombie and Julia Grizzle, both of Blairsville, and Elizabeth
Carder
of Cumming, GA.
Funeral
services were held Monday, September 29, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hood and Rev. Waymon Lovell
officiating. Specially selected music was
presented by the
Kelley Trio. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Sylvan
Pickelsimer, Vaughn Grizzle, Junior Bridges, Doyle Carder, Kenneth
Abercrombie,
and Junior Ramsey. The following
gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Eldo Harkins, Clyde
Harkins,
Tom Berry Burnette, nephews, Ira Harkins, and Harley Harkins. Interment was in Corinth Baptist Church
Cemetery in Suches.
