            Mrs. Opal Deyton, age 75, of Murphy Hwy., Blairsville passed away at her home on Monday, September 23, 2013 following an extended illness. She was born August 6, 1938 in Gillsville, GA to the late Robert Edward Lee Hughes and the Late (sic)  Lilly Burns Hughes. Some of her favorite things to do were cooking, canning, crossword and search puzzles, spending time with her family who she dearly loved and reading her Bible. She was preceded in death by sisters: Annie Rose Owenby, Magalean Anderson and Pauline Anderson, brothers: Talmadge Hughes and Pat Hughes, daughter-in-law, Judy Deyton, and her husband, Bernie Deyton. Opal was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

            Survivors include children: Dennis Deyton of Blairsville, Anthony Deyton of Blairsville, Brenda and Bobby Cantrell of Blairsville, Barbara and Keith Rice of Winder, Ricky Deyton of Blairsville, Bobby Deyton of Blairsville, Franklin Deyton of Blairsville, Greg and Glenda Deyton of Young Harris; brothers: Olin Hughes of Young Harris, Worth Hughes of Blairsville, sister, Syble (Winston Gaines) Langford of Gillsville, nineteen grandchildren thirty-seven great grandchildren, eleven step-great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Waymon Lovell and Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Music was by the New Life Singers. Pallbearers were Jason Schuenemann, Christopher Deyton, Nathan Deyton, Dewayne Cantrell, Donald Popular, Stephen Crisp, Jordan Deyton and Travis Cantrell. Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Deyton and Andy Deyton. Interment followed in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.

patricia a. matte

 

Mrs. Patricia A. Matte, age 90, of Chrisman Rd., Blairsville, formerly of Aqawam, MA passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013 following an extended illness. Mrs. Matte was born on November 10, 1922 in Ludlow, MA, the daughter of the late John Roy and the late Grace Stebbins Roy. She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Matte in 2006, two sisters: Antionette Maloni and Mary Ann Ladue, also by one brother, Charles Roy. Mrs. Matte was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mrs. Matte are one daughter and son-in-law, Lucille (Lucy) and Paul Cislak of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert Matte of Hinsdale, NH, William and Helen Matte of West Springfield, MA,  four sisters one brother-in-law, Agnes Therrien of Leesburg, FL, Claire Blanchard of West Springfield, MA, Margaret Leger of Sarasota, FL, Louise and Hervy Sedelow of Ludlow, MA, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Friday Oct. 25, 2013 at the St. Thomas Cemetery in Springfield, MA. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Blessed Hope Foundation PO Box 722, Newberry FL 32669 in memory of Mrs. Matte.

richard joel "rick" browing

 

          Mr. Richard Joel "Rick" Browning, age 49, of Blairsville, GA, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at his home in Blairsville.

            Rick was born in Germany, on January 15, 1964, a son of Charles Wayman Browning and Sue Sanders Browning. He had lived in Blairsville for the past 29 years, moving here from Lanett, AL. Rick was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, and also a past member and past President of the Union County Rotary Club. Rick's mother, Sue, preceded him in death.

            Rick will be fondly remembered by all who knew him, and lovingly missed by his family members: his daughter, Olivia Browning, of Palm Harbor, FL; his son, Evan Browning, of Blairsville, GA; his father, Chuck Browning, of Palm Harbor, FL; grandmother, Gradie B. Browning, of Lanett, AL; sister, Elizabeth Strickland, of Martinez, GA; and two brothers, Charles K. Browning, of Hudson, FL and Michael P. Browning, of Monroe, GA. Many friends and other relatives will also miss Rick.

            Funeral services for Rick have been scheduled for Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Dwayne Patterson officiating. Special music will be presented by Sheila Partin and Martha Davenport. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Michael Browning, Chuck Browning, Larry Chambers, John Blakeley, Jerry Smith, and Rob Strickland, with burial in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville on Tuesday evening, from 6 until 9 p.m.

            Mrs. Leota Davenport King, age 85 of Hiawassee, formerly of Blairsville, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. Mrs. King was born April 30, 1928 in Blairsville, GA to Erastus and Laura Mae Daniels Davenport. Mrs. King was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed King, her parents and brothers and sisters.

            Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Gary Whitman of Douglasville, GA, Patsy and Wayne Loyless of Loganville, GA, Shirley and Denny Jones of Dallas, GA, Deborah and Hayden Davenport of Blairsville, and Lesia and Kerry Marler, also of Blairsville, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

            Graveside services were held Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Randolph Jones officiating. Music provided by: Randolph and Casey Jones. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Wayne Loyless, Gary Whitman, Denny Jones, Hayden Davenport, Jonathan Loyless and Les Jones.
