MRS.
HOLLY (BILLIE) ELIZABETH WYATT
Mrs.
Holly (Billie) Elizabeth Wyatt, age 59, of Paradise Ln., Blairsville, passed
away on Sunday, September 23, 2001, at her home following a brief illness. Mrs. Wyatt was born on June 13, 1942 in
Atlanta, the daughter of the late Eugene Cox Wyatt and Mary Elizabeth Legrand
Wyatt. She had fought a courageous
battle against depression and mental illness for many years. Holly, or Billie to her family, was a
Lingquist having taught in Europe for a number of years. She was dedicated to a simple life and
ecology in the environment. She was also
active in pet Rescue and the Humane Society.
She cared for abandoned animals at her home. She was preceded in death by her father,
Eugene Wyatt in 1964. She was a member
of St. Clare’s Episcopal Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Wyatt are her Mother, Mary Elizabeth (Wishie) Wyatt of Blairsville; two
sisters and brothers-in-law: Suzanne and John Barnett of Alpharetta, Rosemary
and Bernard Swope of Winchester, VA; cousins: Robert and Jean Ann Legrand of
Texas, Beth Legrand of NC, Betsy Hunt of NC, Whitlow and Linda Wyatt of
Atlanta; aunt: Sue Wyatt of Atlanta; nieces: Natalie and Marisa Swope; many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Services
were held on Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Clare’s
Episcopal Church with Rev. Susan Johnson officiating. Interment followed on Thursday in Decatur, GA
from the Decatur Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Pet
Rescue, Union County Humane Society, in Mrs. Wyatts memory.

Mrs.
Grace Mae Hiers, age 90, of Blairsville, GA, passed away, Saturday, September
22, 2001, in Chatuge Nursing Home in Hiawassee, GA.
Mrs.
Hiers was born in Marion County, Ohio, on Thursday, June 1, 1911, a daughter of
the late Joseph Beaman Oviatt and Ethel Gruber Oviatt. Mrs. Hiers had lived in Enterprise, FL from
1942 until 1991, and then lived in Sanford, FL from 1928 until 1942. She was a member of Barnett Memorial United
Methodist Church in Enterprise. In the
1940’s, she was a member of the PTA at Enterprise Elementary, and was a past
officer of Enterprise Cemetery Association.
She had served on Volusia County Elections Board, and taught Sunday
School at Barnett United Methodist in the 1940’s. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Harold Hiers, who passed away in 1991.
Surviving
are two daughters: Audrey Hiers of Blairsville and Susan Wyatt of Lakeland,
Florida; two grandson: Ronald E. Williams, Jr., and Christopher Scott
Williams. Many other relatives and
friends also survive.
Graveside
services were held Tuesday, September 25, 2001, at 11 a.m. from Enterprise
Evergreen Cemetery in Enterprise, FL, with Stephen R. Baldauff Funeral Home of
Deltona, FL in charge of services in Florida.

Dennis
Curtis Stogsdill, age 62, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, September 28,
2001, from injuries sustained in an accident.
Mr.
Stogsdill was born in Pulaski, Kentucky, on Sunday, February 19, 1939, a son of
the late Ermil Stogsdill and Estella Turner Stogsdill. He had been living in the Blairsville area
since 1981, moving here from Detroit, Michigan.
Dennis was a member and deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed bowling. Mr. Stogsdill was employed by Arbor Acres.
Survivors
include his wife, Lorene Grizzle Stogsdill, of Blairsville; son, Dennis Ellis
Stogsdill, of Tucson, Arizona; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Robert
Jordan, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Dellis and Fran Stogsdill,
of Somerset, KY; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Eddie Vickers, Of
Melvindale, MI; sister, Dale Jean Shahan, Detroit, MI; sister and
brother-in-law, Diane and Jerry Kaczmarczyk, of Virginia Beach, VA; and sister,
Pat Stogsdill, of Detroit; a grandson, Robert Curtis Jordan, also survives,
along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were Wednesday, October 3, 2001, at 2 p.m. from Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church, with Rev. Dwayne Patterson, Rev. Guy Wayne Shook, Rev. Joe Dan Wilkins,
and Rev. Buford Duckworth officiating.
Special music was presented by Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Choir. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Dan Trulove, Steve Carver, Charles Brackett, Homer Powell, Royce
Brown, and J. B. King. Interment was in
the church cemetery.

Mr. Abram
(better known as Red) Gay, Jr., age 74, of Blairsville, passed away on Sunday,
September 30, 2001, in the Union General Hospital, following an extended illness. Mr. Gay was born on April 2, 1927 in
Wauchula, FL, the son of the late Abram Henry, Sr. and the late Alberta
Fletcher Gay. He was a veteran of the
Korean War and was a Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service until his
retirement. He was a member of the
Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Gay are his loving wife of thirty two years, Sharon Taylor Gay of
Blairsville; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Robin and David Revell of
Blairsville, Kristy Ward of Cleveland, GA, Jeanne and Steve Dale of Lake
Whales, FL; one son and daughter-in-law Hank and Vonnie Gay of Clayton, GA; two
sisters: Mary Pope of Tampa, FL, and Adele Bullis of Bainbridge Island, WA;
many other relatives and friends also survive.
Services
for Mr. Gay will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the
Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. George Cline officiating. Special music will be presented by Danita
Kennedy and Patsy Davenport. In Lieu of flowers,
if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Lou Gehrigs
Foundation in Mrs. Gay’s memory.

Mrs.
Charlotte Shepherd Ellis, age 100, of Stonehenge, Murphy Hwy., Blairsville,
passed away on Friday, September 28, 2001 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Ellis was born on November 9, 1900 in
Cincinatti, OH, the daughter of the late Clifford Shepherd and the late Clara
Jander Shepherd. She had worked as a
Dental Assistant before her retirement.
She was of the Baptist faith. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Elwood Ellis.
Surviving
Mrs. Ellis are one son and daughter in law, Donald and Agnes Ellis of Blue
Ridge; five grandchildren: Charlotte Carter of San Clemente, CA, Charles Ellis
of Culver City, CA, George Ellis of Orland, FL, Susan Jones of OR; seven great
grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends
also survive.
A
memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. Interment will follow in the Inglewood
Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA. In lieu of
flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to The
American Cancer Society in Mrs. Ellis’s memory.

Mrs.
Mildred Evelyn Brown, age 78, of Rocky Top Heights Rd., Blairsville, passed
away on Sept. 27, 2001 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Brown was born on Feb. 24, 1923 in
Washington, GA, the daughter of the late Lloyd H. Brown and late Allene Guin
Brown. She had worked with the 3-M
Manufacturing Company for several years.
She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Brown are her loving husband of fifty nine years, Merritt Victor Brown of
Blairsville; nieces: Renee Brown, Kristen Brown, and April Brown; nephews:
Michael Brown, Marvin Brown, Arron Brown and Josh Lovell; a very special friend
of Evelyn and Merritts, Sue Merritt; many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2001 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home
chapel with the Rev. George Cline officiating.
Special music was presented by Tammy Blassingame. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: John Lemmon, Terry Kintz, A. G. Sherman, Andy Anderson, Harold
Plott, Charlie Gregory, Ray Roberts and Ted Noelle. Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist
Cemetery.
