           Claude Beaver, age 51, died Thursday, Sept. 20th, 2012 at his home in Overton, NV after battling cancer for nearly a year. He was born May 21, 1961 in Copper Hill, Tenn. to Hoyt and Nettie Byers Beaver. On May 4, 1996 he married Maria Garcia in Mesquite, NV.

           Claude grew up in Tennessee and at a young age, moved to Blairsville, GA with his family. He attended Union County Schools in Blairsville, GA.

           He worked for Primex Plastics for 30 years. His work brought him to Mesquite, NV in 1993 where he met his sweet heart, Maria. They moved to Overton in 2003. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and everything to do with cars His greatest joy came from being with his family.

           Survivors include his wife, Maria of Overton, NV; his daughter, Meghan Beaver of Blue Ridge, GA; step children: Michele (Six) Hernandez of Logandale, NV; Roman David (Laura) Cortez and Daniel (Amanda) Cortez all of Fishers, IN; Yvette Cortez of Pahrump, NV; Manuel Cortez of Overton, NV; 21 grandchildren; one great grandson; four brothers and one sister: Kenneth Vernon (Barbara), Hoyt Jr. *Sue), Evelyn (randy) Hunter; Doug (Jennifer) all of Georgia. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his sister, Annelene, and his mother Nettie and father Hoyt Beaver.

           Funeral services were Friday, Set. 28th, 2012 at the Lake Mead Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Logandale Cemetery. Moapa Valley Mortuary had charge of the arrangements.

robert wayne adams

 

           Mr. Robert Wayne Adams, age 50 of Fairview Church Rd., Blairsville passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Adams was born on August 3, 1962 in Atlanta, GA the son of Rebecca Nichols Adams and the late Clarence Robert Adams. He was a lifelong resident of Union and Towns Counties. Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, trading, and gunsmithing. He was a member of the NRA and the GA Sheriffs Association. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Wayne was of the Baptist faith.

           Surviving Mr. Adams are his loving wife of thirty-one years, Janice Fay Frasure Adams of Blairsville, one son, Robert Wesley Adams of Blairsville, three daughters and two sons-in-law, April Adams of Atlanta, Misty and Brandon Henderson of Kennesaw, GA, Joyce and Clinton Hall of TN, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Benny Adams of Blairsville, Donald and Janice Adams of TN, two sisters, Gail Adams of Blairsville, Dianne Adams of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Sarah and Jonathan Hall, many other relatives and friends also survive.

           Graveside services were held on Thursday September 27, 2012 at 12 p.m. from the Adams Family Cemetery with the Rev. Luther Thomas officiating. Special music was presented by Robert Duckworth. The following gentleman served as pallbearers: Wesley Adams, Elton Levinson, Brandon Henderson, Cody Keys, Vinny Barile and Dana Reece. Serving as honorary pallbearers were C.B. and Canyon Greenway. The family met with friends on Wednesday evening after 6 p.m. at the Adams residence. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to help defray expenses.

kenneth edward "shorty" lloyd

 

           Mr. Kenneth Edward "Shorty" Lloyd, age 75, of Blairsville, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 in Life Care Center of Copper Basin.

           Mr. Lloyd was born in Blairsville on Monday, July 12, 1937 to the late Ray & Ethel Seabolt Lloyd. Kenneth was a skilled carpenter and built many homes over the years. He was known for being quick with a joke and never met a stranger, which was evident by the many friends he had. He enjoyed the outdoors. Whether in a tree stand hunting deer or fishing in the mountain streams and lakes, he felt at home. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Cantrell and Pearl Lloyd; brother, Earl Lloyd; and grandson, Jonathan Lloyd.

           He will be missed by all who knew him, but especially by his family: sons, Keith Lloyd, Kelvin Lloyd, Tommy Lloyd, Tony Lloyd, and Kenny Lloyd; daughters, Shelia Hughes, Vickie Rhodes and Cindy Jones; brothers, R.J. Lloyd and Andrew Lloyd; sister, Susie Ham; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

           Graveside services for Kenneth were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Owltown Church of God Cemetery with Rev. Jonathon Hood officiating.

           Robert “Rick” Thomas, Blairsville, GA passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Robert M. and Ruth J. Thomas of Scottsburg, IN. Born in Henryville, IN, he was a resident of Blairsville since 1996. Previously, he and his wife of 51 years, Jeri Stewart Thomas, were residents of Gainesville, GA.

           He is survived by his wife, Jeri; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Dora Thomas of Scottsburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Andrew Bothwell of Alpharetta, GA; and a daughter and son-in-law, Leanne and Carnell Floyd of Roswell. He is also survived by brothers, David Thomas of Deputy, IN and Todd Thomas of Jeffersonville, IN, and a sister, Cindy Sizemore also of Jeffersonville, IN. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Kaylee and Sarah Thomas; Kaleb and Alicia Davoudpour; and Tyler Bothwell.

           A graduate of Perdue University and Western Michigan University, he held a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, he worked both as a consultant and with a number of companies, including Pillsbury and Nabisco.

           In retirement, his greatest pleasures were his home and family, golfing with dear friends, and the mountains. He will be remembered for his love of life and laughter, and he was blessed with being able to know and enjoy his family to the end.

           The family received friends at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, September 28. Services will be at Hoagland and Stewart Funeral Home in Scottsburg, IN on Saturday, October 6. Interment also will be at Scottsburg Cemetery.

           Mr. Jeffrey Sean Gebhardt, age 35 of Old Sullivan Rd., Blairsville passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2012 in Wilkes County, GA while doing one of the things that he loved to do best, hunting. Jeffrey was born on October 27, 1976 in Winterhaven, FL, the son of Lewis Gebhardt and Marcia Roberts Gebhardt. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was attending North Georgia College. At the time of his death he was employed with Chambers Slaughter House. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alice and Lewis Gebhardt and Irene Pelzer. Jeff was a loving son, brother and uncle. Jeffrey attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

           Surviving Jeffrey are his parents, Lew and Marcia Gebhardt of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Stephanie Gebhardt of Jacksonville, FL, one niece, Maddie Gebhardt, many other relatives and friends also survive.

           Memorial services were held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 8 a.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Liem officiating. The family met with friends following the services. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Jeffrey’s memory.

           Mark Stephens, 79, beloved husband of Maxine Sullivan Stephens died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at his residence.

           A native of Blairsville, GA, Mark was a son of the ate Reverend Harvey Dakota Stephens and Leila Pierce Stephens. He had lived in Aiken, SC since 1961 and was a retired production supervisor at Owens Corning Fiberglass. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and the adult choir. Mr. Stephens kept very active after his retirement as a cabinet maker and woodworker. He loved gardening and fishing.

           Survivors, in addition to his wife, Maxine, include three daughters, Janet Usher, Knoxville, TN, Sandra Gossett, Aiken, SC, Catherine (Martin) Johnson, Aiken, SC; a son, Greg (Janet) Stephens, Aiken, SC; 8 grandchildren, Blake and Wes Usher, Chase and Lea Ann Gossett, Allison Johnson, Lauren, Gregory and Andrew Stephens; 2 great-grandchildren, Brooke and Blaire Usher and a sister, Cora Dixon, Marietta, GA.

           Mrs. Bertha Mae Chambers, age 73, of Murrayville, GA died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.

           Mrs. Chambers was a Union County native who had lived in Murrayville for the past 50 years. She was a retired poultry worker and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Union County.

           She was the daughter of the late Grady and Lizzie Garrett Grizzzle and was also preceded in death by a sister Sharon Sue Grizzle; and brothers, Marvin, Calvin, and John Robert
Grizzle.

           Mrs. Chambers is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gene “Jack” Chambers, Murrayville, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Lynn Gilstrap, Clermont, GA, Janice and John Barrett, Dahlonega, GA, Connie and David Norrell, Dahlonega, GA, Mary and Marty Murphy, Dahlonega, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Wakinea Chambers, Murrayville, GA, Danny and Frankie Chambers, Gainesville, GA, Scott and

           Mr. Buren Eugene Burch age 67 of Brewer Drive, Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at his home following and extended illness. Mr. Burch was born on September 7, 1945 in Hiawassee, GA, the son of the late Fred Burch and the late Martha Anderson Burch. He was a lifelong resident of Union and Towns Counties. Buren enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.

           Surviving Mr. Burch are his loving wife of forty-four years, Judy Brewer Burch of Blairsville, two daughters and  sons-in-law, Vickie and Phillip Lovingood of Hiawassee, Vanessa and Everett Davenport of Blairsville, two sisters and brothers-in- law, Geneva and Harley Hunter of Hiawassee, Noble Lee and Dwight Dotson of Easley, SC, four grandchildren, Jimmy, Jessicia, Cassie and Christopher Sisum, one great grandson, Hank Sisum, many other relatives and friends also survive.

           Funeral services were held on Friday Sept. 28, 2012 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Jan Devereaux officiating. Special music were (sic) presented by Hubert Legg. The following gentleman served as pallbearers, Christopher Sisum, Stanley Hunter, Donald Dotson, Edward Ray Dotson, Adam Weaver and Dale Weaver.            Anne Marie Wilkins, age 45, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at the home of her parents.

           Anne was born Thursday, December 1, 1966 in Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables, FL. She worked as a practical nurse both in Miami and Jacksonville, FL. Since March of this year, Anne was under Hospice Care of Blue Ridge, GA at home.

           She is survived by her parents, Jack and Valerie Ryan; her sister Patricia Ryan, all of Blairsville; her daughter, Brooke Wilkins, of Homestead, FL. She was loved by so many. She will be missed by so many.

           There will be no services. Any donations can be made in her memory to American Cancer Society.

           Mrs. Winifred “Teddy” Morrison, age 79, of Rocky Circle, Blairsville passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 at her home following an extended illness. She was born January 28, 2012 (sic) in Wildwood, FL to the late Paul and Laufa Moore Kendall. Teddy moved here 26 years ago from Indiana. She was a member of the Eagles, VFW, DAV and Antioch Baptist Church.

           Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Jimmy Earl Morrison of the home, children, Lisa Houser of Colorado Springs, CO, Shannon Elliott of Blairsville and Peri Oneil and her fiancé, Paul Thompkins of Oakwood, GA, sister Mary and Ed Woods of Green Castle, IN, two grandchildren, Crystal and Dawn, six great grandchildren.

           Memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Cline officiating. Special music will be presented by Betty Gurr and Judye Brinson. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

           Mrs. Dorothy Mabel Kingsland age 79 of Chantelle Lane, Blairsville passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Kingsland was born on June 25, 1933 in London England the daughter of the late James Melrose and the late Daisy Brown Melrose. One of Dorothy’s greatest joys in life was riding in the car. Her favorite destination while riding was the Apple Barn in Sevierville, TN. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Dorothy was of the Presbyterian faith.

           Surviving Mrs. Kingsland are her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Ernest Kingsland of Blairsville, two daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra Bandstra of Sumter, SC, Susan and Patrick Morgan of Dallas, GA, one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Cherie Kingsland of Matthews, NC, two sisters, Heather Jarvis of Suffolk, England, Moira Hurst of Essex, England, ten grandchildren, Heather, Matthew, Jessica, Stephen, Michael, Brandon, Cameron, Brittany, Brooke and Shannon, many other relatives and friends also survive.

           Mrs. Heather Corlene Waters Dyer, age 35, of Appalachian Hills, Blairsville, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012 in the Emory Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Dyer was born on November 2, 1976 in Augusta, GA, the daughter of Jim Waters and Janie Jenkins Waters. Heather had been employed with the Union County Nursing Home as a Certified Nurses Assistant before her becoming ill and had been previously employed with Regency Hospice. She touched the lives of many people and was a loving and caring person who cared for many. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, daughter-in-law and aunt. Heather was a member of New Union Baptist Church.

           Surviving Heather are her loving husband and best friend, Craig Dyer of Blairsville, her parents, Jim and Janie Waters of Perkins, GA, sister and brother-in-law, Summer and Gary Melton of Martinsburg, WV, brother and sister-in-law, C.J. and Ashley Waters of Statesboro, GA, grandfather, C.J. Waters of Perkins, GA, mother-in-law, Shirley Dyer of Gainesville, special "Mamaw, Reida Stephens of Blairsville, two special nephews. Jackson Melton of Martinsburg, WV, and Henry Inman of Canton, NC, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Allison and Tony Inman of Canton, NC, many other relatives and friends also survive.
