ruth gooch griffin

 

Mrs. Ruth Gooch Griffin, age 89, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, September 25, 2006 in Union County Nursing Home.  Mrs. Griffin was born Sunday, June 10, 1917 in Union County, Georgia, to the late martin Gooch and the late Nancy Tritt Gooch.  Mrs. Griffin was a lifelong resident of Union County and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Mayse Griffin; son, Harris Griffin; and great-grandsons, Clay King and Connor Griffin.

Survivors include: daughter, Sandra G. Jenkins of Blairsville, GA, daughter-in-law, Barbara Griffin of Blairsville, GA, granddaughters, Rhonda Griffin Dyer, Natalie Vaughn, and Lori Jenkins; grandsons, Jeffrey Harris Griffin, Daniel Scott Griffin, and Kenny Jenkins, great-granddaughters, Ashley Dyer Warren, Megan Griffin, Jessica Chatham, Noelle Vaughn, and Cassidy griffin, great-grandsons, Ryan Griffin, Luck Chatham, Carter Griffin, and Kole Jenkins and great-great-granddaughter, Chantel King.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. George Cline officiating.  Special music was presented by Ted and Joy Noelle, and Patsy Davenport Phillips and Danita Owenby Kennedy.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Jeff Griffin, Daniel Griffin, Ryan Griffin, Kenny Jenkins, and Mark Vaughn.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8, Tuesday, September 26.

robert alfred churchill

 

Mr. Robert Alfred Churchill, age 68, of Choestoe Falls Circle, Blairsville and also of W. Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 in the St. Josephs Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.  Mr. Churchill was born on March 18, 1938 in Walpole, MA, the son of the late Alfred Churchill and the late Rose Larouch Churchill.  He was a veteran of the US Airforce.  He retired in 2002 with the Avatar Company as a Financial Director after several years of service.  Mr. Churchill was a member and past president of the Good Sam’s Club of South Florida and was also a member of the Elk’s Club.

Surviving Mr. Churchill are his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Eva Curodeau Churchill of Blairsville and W. palm Beach, FL, two sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Sharon Churchill of Brunswick Hills OH, Gary Vadenais of Miami, FL, one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Clare Churchill of Winterhaven, one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Barry Porter of MA and also of Orlando, FL, two grandchildren, Marie Rose Churchill and Kenneth Churchill, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may e made to the American Kidney Foundation in Mr. Churchill’s memory.

hattie bell garrett

 

Ms. Hattie Bell Garrett, age 77, of Hwy 76, Young Harris passed away on Friday Sept. 29, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Ms. Garrett was born on Feb. 15, 1929 in Union County, the daughter of the late John Henry Garrett and the late Mary Harkins Garrett.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  Ms. Garrett was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

Surviving Ms. Garrett are one brother and sister-in-law, John Harold and Sue Garrett of Blairsville, five sisters and three brothers-in-laws, Elizabeth Grizzle of Suches, Essie Davis of Blairsville, Edith and Thomas Bradford of Calhourn, GA, Helen and Johnny Abercrombie of Suches, Shelby and G.W. Jenkins of Bonnell, FL, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday Oct. 1, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating.  Special music was presented by Mr. Ted Noele.  Interment followed in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
