Mr. James
Edward Payne, age 86, of Flowery Branch, GA, passed away September 29,
2009 at
North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.
Mr. Payne
was born on April 19, 1923 in Gaston Co., NC, to
the late William Carlos and Annie (Kerdendoll) Payne.
He lived in Blairsville for many years, but
had lived in Flowery Branch for the last 44 years.
Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his wife,
Elsie Margaret Payne 1 year ago on Sept. 29, 2008.
Survivors
include: daughters, Mary Frances Pitts of Flowery
Branch, GA, Mildred Martha Whited of Gillsville, GA, and Lori Lynn
Stewart of
Flowery Branch, GA; sons, James William Payne of Flowery Branch, GA,
and Jessie
Wade Payne of Commerce, GA; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-three
great
grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 2 PM from the Chapel of
Cochran
funeral Home with Rev. Jason Walls officiating.
Pallbearers were John Payne, Jason Payne, Daniel Quesenberry,
Noah
Quesenberry, Nathaniel Whited and Tommy Payne.
Burial was in Union Memory Gardens.

Mrs.
Gladys Williams, age 95, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Jacksonville,
FL,
passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at Chatuge Regional Hospital in
Hiawassee,
Georgia.
Mrs.
Williams was born on January 22, 1914 in the Hollis
School community in Alabama. Gladys was
a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Blairsville and was a former
member of
the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, FL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Williams.
Survivors
include: daughter and son-in-law, Glenn and Sherry
Miller of Blairsville, GA, granddaughter, Tracy Woodard, great
granddaughters,
Kristin Woodard and Lynsay Lawson, great grandson, Billy Lawson and
great-great
granddaughters, Lexi Woodard and Kylee Harvey.
Memorial
services were held Monday, October 5, 2009 at 10:30 AM from the Liberty
Baptist
Church with Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.
Music was provided by Liberty Baptist church Choir.
In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Liberty
Baptist
Church Building Fund.

Frank
Lafayette Cheek, a long time resident of Suches, GA, passed away
peacefully in
his home on Wednesday, September 30, 2009.
surrounded by many family members and
close
friends, his final moments were a spiritual and emotional testament to
the incredible
love that he instilled in others. Frank
was 81 years old.
Born in
Princeton, South Carolina to the late Warren and Winnie Cheek, Frank’s
life
would ultimately prove to be a fascinating series of twists, turns and
accomplishments. Naval Aviator and
Squadron Commander, Eastern Airlines Captain, Entrepreneur and
Patriarch of
motorcycling in the Southeastern Untied States, Inventor of the Jet
Descent
Vertical Navigation Device, and co-designer of many of the Atlanta
Airport
approach patterns, loving husband, father, grandfather, great
grandfather, friend
and mentor mark only a few highlights of this great storybook life!
Frank is
survived by his wife Jeannie Cheek of Suches, GA, sister Margaret
Wasson of
Greenville, SC, son David Cheek of Roanoke, VA, daughters Susan Brown
of
Gainesville, GA, Janet Roll of Las Vegas, NV, stepsons George Herrera
of
Dahlonega, GA, Ken Herrera of Thiensville, WI, Louis Herrera of
Roswell, GA,
stepdaughters Lucia Perez of Atlanta, GA, Jeannie Pekarek of Houston,
TX, 9 granddaughters,
4 grandsons, 5 great grandchildren, 2 nieces and 1 grand niece.
A
celebration of Frank’s life is planned for Sunday, October
18, at Frank’s Place, his namesake lodge at High Valley Resort in
Suches,
GA. Activities include a fly-in and
motorcycle
ride. The service will begin at 10:30
a.m.

Mr. Jim
Savage, age 72, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, September 25,
2009 at
his home. Mr. Savage was born on October
25, 1936, in Kokomo, IN, a son of the late Henry James Savage, Sr. and
Martha
Wilson Savage.
He was a
housing development contractor, and had lived in Blairsville since
2005, moving
from Long Beach, MS. Mr. Savage was a
member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hayesville, NC; a member of
Allegheny Masonic Lodge, #114 F & AM; and Union County Rotary Club. He had served as a teacher at William Holland
School of Lapidary Arts in Young Harris, and was a co-founder of the
Anti-Drug
coalition.
Surviving
are his companion, Penny Duncan, of Blairsville; children: Henry James
Savage,
III, of Myrtle Beach, SC; Joyce Edwards of Blairsville; June Bendatan,
Johnathan Savage, and Jennifer Savage, all of Miami, FL; sisters:
Caroline
DiNoto, of the Woodlands, TX and Kathryn Gomez, of Miami; four
grandchildren also
survive.
Memorial
services will be scheduled at a later date.

Jones Michaud, age 66, of Blairsville, GA, passed away October 2, 2009
at her
home in Blairsville, Georgia. Mrs. Jones
was born on July 17, 1943 in Gilford County, NC. She
was a resident of Union County for the
past 19 years, moving here from the Florida Keys. Beverly
worked as a waitress at the Waffle
House in Blairsville. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Jerome Michaud.

include: friends, Teresa Cantrell and Angie Hayes of Blairsville, GA.
