Mr.
Tensley “Ed” Thomas, age 75, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Sunday,
September 1, 1997 in Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr.
Thomas was born in Towns County, Georgia, on April 13
1922, a son of the late Paul Thomas and Elsie Rogers Thomas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served
during World War II. Mr. Thomas worked
in flint, (sic) Michigan for 30 years and returned to Blairsville in
1980. He was a member of Faith Baptist
church. (sic) Mr.
Thomas had
taught Sunday School and Children’s Church
in Baptist
churches for over 30 years. He had been
preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Mooney, in 1996 and a brother,
P.L.
Thomas in 1987.
Surviving
are his wife, Mrs. Monita Hall Thomas of Blairsville, GA.; a son, Rev.
Steven
Thomas of Carleton, Michigan; a daughter, Nancy Huff of Columbus, GA.;
brother,
Joe Thomas and sister, Maebell Hughes, both of Jacksonville, GA.;
sister,
Earleen Huggins of Bristol, VA.; and sister, Ivalee Sims of Young
Harris, GA.;
nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren and nieces, nephews
and other
relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 24, 1997 at 11 a.m. from Faith
Baptist
Church with Pastor James Brock and Rev. Steven Thomas officiating. Special music was presented by Mrs. Teddy
Clark, Clarke Huff, and Mrs. Sandra Brock.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Clinton Droze,
Norman
Bachelor, Ben Huff, Ray Douglas, Bob Mooney, and Ed Bolle.
Interment was in Laurel Hills Cemetery in
Hiawassee.

Mrs.
Evia Souther Jenkins, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Friday,
September 26, 1997 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. She was a native and lifelong resident of
Union County. Mrs. Jenkins was a member
of First Baptist Church of Blairsville, and was a member of the T.E.L.
Sunday School class there.
Mrs. Jenkins was the mother of former Congressman, Ed Jenkins. Preceding her in death was her husband,
Charlie Jenkins in 1993.
Surviving
are son, Charles Jenkins and his wife
Bonnie of Blairsville; son, Ed Jenkins and his wife, Jo, of Jasper,
GA.;
daughter, Marilyn Thomasson and her husband, Homer of Marietta;
daughter, Ella
Battle, and her husband, Tom, of Blairsville; son, Kenneth Jenkins and
his
wife, Sandra, of Blairsville; daughter Patti Chambers and her husband,
Bobby,
of Gainesville; sister, Ethel Davenport of Blairsville; nephew, Leon
Davenport,
also of Blairsville; eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren,
and many
nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, September 28, 1997 at 2 p.m. from First
Baptist
Church of blairsville (sic) with Pastor Danny Parris and Rev. Rick
Jenkins officiating. Specially selected
music was presented by R.
Terry Hooper and the Silvertones. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Tim Garred, Rob Chambers, Kenny Jenkins, Mike Farris, Mark
Dotson, Mark
Vaughn, and Brent Chatham. Serving as
honorary escort to the family was members of the T.E.L. Sunday School
Class. Interment was in Old Union
Baptist Church Cemetery. If you wish,
