Mrs.
Grace Young,
age 79, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, passed away
Tuesday
evening, September 27, 2011, at her home at Lazy R.
Mrs.
Young was born
in Blairsville on July 31, 1932, a daughter of the late Paul and the
late
Evelyn Anderson Stepp. She was a member
of Liberty Baptist Church, where she was a member of Liberty Ladies,
and taught
Sunday School. Grace had been an
administrative assistance to her late husband of 44 years, Roy Lloyd
Young,
whose businesses included operating heavy equipment and an aircraft
charter
service. Besides her husband, and her
parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Roy
Stepp.
Grace is
survived by
and will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but especially her
loving
family: son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Sandy Young, of
Blairsville;
sister, Ruby Daniel of Blairsville, and brother, Jack Stepp, of
Odenville, AL;
several nieces, nephews and many friends also survive.
Funeral
services were
held on Friday, September 30, 2011, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran
Funeral
Home, with Rev. Trent Rich and Rev. Jonathan Hood officiating. Special music was presented by Odena Gibson,
Barbara Long, and Barbara and Stephanie Poole. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Bud Murphy, R.B. Brown, Brownie Brown, Curtis Young, Everett Cook, and
Craig
Dyer. The following gentlemen served as
honorary escort to the family: Brian Kinnersley, Keith Stepp, J.L.
Tanner, John
Daniel, Kieter Foster, Jeff Daniel, and Franklin Hunter, and the Union
County
High School Class of 1949. Burial was in
Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family received friends for one hour prior to the services at the
funeral home.

Mrs.
Hilda Taylor
Seay, age 86, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, September 26,
2011 in
Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Seay
was born
in Franklin, GA, on Monday, December 8, 1924, a daughter of the late
Kenion
Ambers Taylor and the late Baxter Elijah Adams Taylor. She
was a homemaker and had been living in the
Blairsville area since 2004, moving here from Albany, GA. Mrs. Seay was a Charter Member of Porterfield
United Methodist Church in Albany. She
was an active member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class there.
Preceding her
in death was her husband of 49 years, Harold Seay; and two brothers,
Henry
Taylor and Charley Taylor.
She is
survived by
and will be missed greatly by all of her family: daughter and
son-in-law,
Martha Ann Collins and Bill Collins of Blairsville; son and
daughter-in-law,
John Harold Seay and Linda Seay, of Thomson, GA; son and
daughter-in-law,
Robert Kenneth Seay and Mary Lee Seay, of Macon, GA; and daughter and
son-in-law, Mary Alice and Rick Hinman of Preston, GA; Sister, Wilma
Giles, of
Locust Grove, GA; seven grandchildren: Bryan Collins, Elizabeth Earnst,
Brooke
Hold, Wesley Seay, Michelle Lucas, Taylor O'Hearn, and Adam O'Hearn;
eight great
grandchildren: Anna Collins, Hollyn Hold, Lynley Hold, Milyn Hold,
Jacob
Collins, Mary Evelyn Seay, Robert Seay, and Avery Hamlin. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside
services were
held on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 3 p.m., at the Chapel of Crown
Hill
Mausoleum in Albany, with Rev. Robert Orr officiating. Special
music was presented by Linda Mayo. Grandchildren
served as pallbearers. The body was
in-state at the graveside
beginning at 2 p.m.
The
family has
suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to
the
Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

Mrs.
Adel Brown Henson, age 93, of William Henson Rd., Blairsville, passed
away on
Thursday Oct. 6, 2011 in the Union County Nursing Home following an
extended
illness. Mrs. Henson was born on October
9, 1917 in Union County, the daughter of the late Jim Brown and the
late Pearl
Weaver Brown. She was a native and
lifelong resident of Union County. Adel
loved gardening and loved children. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Henson in 1973, two sons,
Junior
Henson in 1996 and Audie Henson in 2010, two sisters, Maybell Ledford
and Wilma
Morgan, a brother, Robert Brown and also a nephew, Ricky Brown. Mrs. Henson was a member of Ebenezer Baptist
Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Henson are one son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Joyce Henson of
Blairsville,
two daughters-in-law, Mary Henson of Ellijay, Peggy Henson of
Blairsville,
sister-in-law, Marie Brown of Blairsville, four grandchildren, Janie
and Aaron
Walls of Dothan, AL., Jeannie Henson of Raleigh, NC., Stevie and Amanda
Henson
of Blairsville, and Debbie Rice of Mineral Bluff, seven great
grandchildren,
Clairissa and Cody Henson, Mandy Parker, Lacey Johnson, Gene Rice,
Casey Rice
and James Seth Henson, four great-great grandchildren, Mikayla, Jessica
and
Jake Pack and Aubrey Henson, great-great-great
grandchild, Caden Cole Horn, many other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday October 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the
Mountain View
Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Seay officiating. Special
music was presented by the Copper City
Quartet. The following gentleman served
as pallbearers, Gene Rice, Stevie Henson, Lee Knight, Larry Young,
Randy
Ledford and Tony Ledford. Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist
Church
Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or if you
wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Ebenezer
Baptist
Church Cemetery Fund in memory of Mrs. Henson. The
family met with friends at the funeral
home on Friday evening from 6-9pm.

Thurman
Edward, “Ed” Kinder, 97 of New Port
Richey, FL, passed away October 2nd. He
was born July 15, 1914 in Cabell, WV. He
served in the US Army during WWII and, following the war, was a radio
operator
in the Merchant Marines. He moved to
Florida in 1948 and worked for General Electric in Largo for over 25
years,
retiring in 1978. He was a member of the
Gulf Beach Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, a ham radio operator and an
avid
gardener. He was preceded in death by
his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary. They
enjoyed many happy times at their mountain home in Blairsville, GA.
He is
survived by
his four daughters, Gloria Sue (Vernon) Cowley, Deidra Honeywell, Diana
Rice
and Deborah Noblit; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
In lieu
of flowers
the family requests donations in his memory be made to the Gulfside
Regional
Hospice.

Mrs.
Gail Irene Chuckran, age 69, of Rabbit Run, Blairsville, passed away at
her
home on Thursday, October 6, 2011 following a brief illness. Gail was born August 5, 1942 in Abington, MA,
a daughter of the late Carlton and Margery Steeves Brown. She was a graduate of Abington High School. Gail and her husband moved here 6 years ago
from Melbourne, FL. She was past
President of Pieceful Mountain Quilters Guild of Blue Ridge and a
member of
Tuesday Quilters. Gail was also preceded
in death by a brother, Daniel Brown and a sister, Carol Graham. She was of the Episcopal faith.
For
53
years with her partner in life Craig, they created many memories,
traveled and
built a wonderful life together. Gail
loved to surround herself with family and friends at every opportunity.
Her passion for cooking and entertaining
has
brought us together for years and will be passed on for generations.
Gail’s artistic talents for painting, sewing, gardening, crocheting,
decorating
and quilt making were remarkable. We
will cherish her personalized gifts for years to come.
Surviving Gail are her loving husband of 51 years, Craig Chuckran of
Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Fred Twiss of
Tiverton, RI;
son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Veronica Chuckran of Anchorage, AK;
brothers-in-law
and sisters-in-law, Mitchell and Joan Chuckran of Canton, GA, John and
Linda
Chuckran of Brockton, MA and Susan and Bill Gorman of Port St. John,
FL; four
grandchildren, Jacqueline (Jackie) Twiss, Jessica, Zachary and David
Chuckran;
several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Gail were held at 4 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2011
at the
chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home with Father Frank Wilson

Joseph
Phillip Hiers, 69, of Blairsville, GA,
passed away on October 1, 2011 after a sudden illness.
Joseph was born on May 16, 1932 in Quitman,
GA, son of the late Joseph and Della Mae Sweat Hiers.
He is preceded in death by his brothers,
Ralph and James Hiers, and sister, Vonnie Hiers Godbold.
A U.S. Air Force Veteran with 20 years of
dedicated service, Joseph retired as Master Sergeant in 1982. In addition to his family and friends, Joe,
also
known as Phil by his brothers and sisters, loved boating and fishing.
Surviving
Joseph are
his loving wife, Charlotte Ann Roe Hiers, four step-children, David,
Bill,
Marcia Gaskins and Ramona Campbell, as well as brothers, John and
Herbert
Hiers, Charles Roberts, and Eugene Tallmadge.
He was also blessed with six grandchildren, three great
grandchildren,
and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 1 p.m.
Wednesday, October 6, 2011 in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral
Services and
burial followed in the Lovejoy Cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday, October
4, 2011
from 6 – 8 p.m. A memorial service will
be held for Joe’s Blairsville friends and church family at 11 a.m.

October 15, 2011 at Notla Baptist Church in Murphy, NC.

Mrs.
Virginia Pauline Myers, age 81, of Kiutuestia Creek Rd., Blairsville
passed
away on Tuesday October 4, 2011 in the Union County Nursing Home
following a
brief illness. Mrs. Myers was born on
March 27, 1930 in Doerun, GA, the daughter of the late I.U. Hampton and
the
late Emma Woody Hampton. Virginia loved
crocheting and especially spending time with her grandchildren and
great
grandchildren. She was a loving mother,
grandmother and great grandmother. She
was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Ola Groover,
Ellen
Blunt and Geraldine Reynolds and by two brothers, R.V. and Eugene
Hampton. Mrs. Myers attended the House of
Prayer
Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Myers are one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Toni Peevy of
Young
Harris, two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Bill Kelley of
Blairsville,
Glenda and Billy O’Brien of Balm, FL, seven grandchildren, Mamie Peevy,
Jason
Kelley, Micah Peevy, Millie Baxter, Will O’Brien, Daniel Peevy and
Candace
O’Brien, many other relatives and friends also survive.

music was presented by Angie Kelley. The
