mr. donald maurice stephens

 

Mr. Donald “Dink” Maurice Stephens, 65, of Dalton, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, October 6, 2004 in the Hamilton Medical Center.

He was born April 16, 1939 in Blairsville, Georgia and had been a resident of Dalton for most of his life.  He was the son of the late Charles and Nannie Lou Conley Stephens and was preceded in death by his Sister, Mary Ruth Red of Franklin, GA; brothers, Gene and Robert, both of Dalton, Max of Blairsville and Conley Stephens of Hoosick Falls, New York; great-great nephew, Dakota Huckaby of Dalton.  Donald had served in the military, U.S. army and had been a long time employee with the Green Spot Superette.

His survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Joe Henry of Dalton; nephew Charles Henry of Dalton, Gary Red of Franklin, GA, Jody Stephens of Lawrenceville GA; niece, Jo Ann Putnam of Rocky Face; great nieces and nephews and their children also survive.

Services were Friday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Rev. Wilburn Thomas officiating.  Graveside service was at 2 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville.  Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Ave., Dalton was in charge of the arrangements.

darwin haliston “bud” hanes

 

Darwin Haliston “Bud” Hanes, age 105, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, October 8, 2004 in Blairsville.

Mr. Hanes was born Saturday, August 19, 1899 in Sussex, Del., the son of the late Darwin H. and Mary Edna Hargrove Hanes.  He was a retired paint store operator, was of the methodist Faith and was a member of the Orlando Masonic Lodge #69 F&AM.

Survivors include: grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Buddy and Nancy Hanes of Chulvota, FL, Grandson and granddaughter-in-law, John and Anna Hanes of Casselberry, FL, great grandson, Johnathan Hanes, great granddaughter, Brittany Hanes, great grandson, Beau Hanes and great granddaughter, Katie Hanes.

Funeral services were held Sunday October 10, 2004 at 2 PM from Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating.  Masonic Rites were conferred by Allegheny Lodge #114, F & AM.  Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial park in Orlando, FL on Thursday at 3 PM.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

mr. van cline nix

 

Mr. Van Cline Nix, age 70, of Rock Quarry Road, Cherry Log, formerly of Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2004 in the Life Care Center of Copper Basin following an extended illness.  Mr. Nix was born on August 20, 1934 in Union County, the son of the late Ed Nix and the late Willnell Louise Shepherd Nix.  He was a native of Union County and had retired from Colwell Construction Company with over twenty years of service.  He was a member of the Ocoee Masonic Lodge #201.  Mr. Nix was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Nix are one daughter, Michelle Smith of Alpharetta, one sister and brother-in-law, Dimple Ellen and Robert Donley of Cherry Log, one brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Ann Nix of Blairsville, three grandchildren, Dylan, Ethan and Jacob Smith, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating.  Special music will be presented by Hubert and Betty Legg.  The Ocoee Masonic Lodge #201 F&AM will conduct Masonic rites.  Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville in charge of the arrangements.

mrs. elizabeth mozell dunn

 

Mrs. Elizabeth Mozell Dunn, 77, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Miami & Homestead, FL, passed away October 8, 2004, at her daughter’s home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Dunn was born in DeFuniak springs, FL on February 18, 1927, the daughter of Samuel R. Bedgood and Sarah E. Findley but was raised in Andalusia, AL.  She moved to Miami, FL in 1945 after her marriage.  She & her husband remained there until 1965 when they moved to Homestead, FL.  In 1998 they moved to Roxboro, NC near their youngest daughter and family and then to Blairsville, GA in 2000 to live with their eldest daughter and husband.

Mrs. Dunn was a devoted homemaker, wonderful, loving mother and wife and beloved friend of many.  She also worked in the family farming business with her husband until their retirement.  Raised in the Baptist faith she joined the Methodist church after her marriage and was an active member.  She will be remembered for her Sunday roast dinners, homemade banana pudding, family cookouts and her love of yellow roses.  She will be missed by her family and friends but her memory will live in our hearts forever.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles a. Dunn Jr., in January 2002.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and John L. Byars, Sr. of Blairsville, GA and Betty and Karl Lenzen of Roxboro, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Sandy Dunn of Key largo, FL; seven grandchildren, John L. Byars Jr. and fiancée Ami Collins of Blairsville, GA, Jenny Byars Gribbin and husband Mike of Tampa, FL, Rhonda Dunn of Orlando, FL, Rick Dunn and wife Elisabeth of Orlando, FL and James Dunn and wife Jada of Homestead, FL, Sky Lenzen and wife Emily of Raleigh, NC and Lesane Lenzen of Raleigh, NC, sister Kathryn Wilder of Youngstown, FL brothers Gary Bedgood and wife Carolyn of Pensacola, FL, and Roy Bedgood and wife Pat of Summerdale, AL, and her faithful little Schnauzer, Banjo.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, GA, with Minister Terry Stuart officiating.  Viewing will be at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the Florida United Methodist Children’s home at 51 Main Street, Enterprise, FL.
