Mrs.
Christine Boland, age 76, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Saturday,
October 3, 1998 at her home.
Mrs. Boland
was born Thursday, January 12, 1922 in Austine, Texas.
She has lived in
Blairsville since 1975, coming here from Perry, GA.
A woman of many attributes, Christine Boland
was one of the first Delta Airline stewardesses. She
was an outdoorsman, who hunted, camped
and fished, a gardener, and scout leader. She lived and traveled aboard with her
husband. As a mother of six and
grandmother with a gracious and generous heart, she fostered strength,
wisdom,
individuality and kindness. She will be
remembered for her great love and humor by her husband, children,
grandchildren
and friends.
Surviving are her husband, Ray
Boland, of Blairsville; daughters:
Shabari-Lynda Bird, of Blairsville; Dr. Pam Boland, of Brasstown, NC;
and Annie
Bacon, of Perry, GA; sons: Chris Boland and Randy Boland, both of
Blairsville;
14 grandchildren also survive.
Graveside
services were held Tuesday, October 6, 1998 at 11
a.m. from Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Williams and Rev.
Morrison officiating. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to
your favorite charity in memory of Mrs. Boland.

Mrs.
Helen Beasley, age 80, of Blairsville, passed away Sunday, October 4,
1998 in
Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Beasley was born on Saturday, April 20, 1918, in
Albermarie, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Hamp Clark and Lily
Gray
Clark. She was a homemaker and had lived
in Blairsville area for the past 28 years.
She attended The House of Prayer Church.
Surviving are
her husband, John E. Beasley, of Blairsville; brother and
sister-in-law, Marion
and Zell Clark, of Albemaire, NC; niece and her husband, Jeannette and
Terry
land, of Crawfordville, Florida; several nieces, nephews, other
relatives and a
host of friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, October 6, 1998 at 2
p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev.
Jerry
Helton officiating. Special music was
presented
by the Kelley Trio. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Larry Helton, JOE Walker, Bud
Gilcrest, Robbie
Yarbough, Phil Chapman, and Cliff Goeway.
Interment was in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
James M. (J.M.) Gray, age 79, of Blue Ridge, passed away Tuesday,
October 6,
1998, in the Blue Ridge Health Care Center following an extended
illness. He was a native of Union County,
son of the
late James L. Gray and Lula Patterson gray.
He was elected Sheriff in Union County in 1946.
He was retired from general motors, having
worked in the paint department for a number of years.
After retirement, he moved to blue
Ridge, where he was active in the DAV Chapter, the
American Legion Post in McCaysville, the VFW Post in Blairsville and
the North
Georgia Honor Guard. He was a veteran of
World war 2, and was a member of the
Allegheny Lodge
#114 in Blairsville. He was a member of
the Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.
He is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna W. Gray of the home; a sister, Mrs.
Anna Lou
Nichols of Blairsville, several nieces and nephews and many other
relatives and
friends.
Funeral
services were conducted
Thursday October 8, at 2
p.m. from the Akins Chapel with Rev. Charles Black and Rev. Juel Sealy
on officiating. Music was by Kenneth and
Elaine Young. The following gentlemen
served as
pallbearers: Fred Gray, Rick Gray, Jimmy Nichols, Alex Davenport, Jeff
Kelley
and Larry Bracket. Interment was in
Bethlehem Cemetery in Union County with full military honors by the
North
Georgia Honor Guard. Akins Funeral Home
of Blue Ridge in charge of arrangements.

Mrs.
Grovie Lillian Duckworth Griffin, age 91, of Sugar Hill, Georgia,
formerly of
Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, October 5, 1998 in Gwinnett County.
Mrs.
Griffin was born Monday, August 5, 1907, in Union County, Georgia, a
daughter
of the late James Hamilton Duckworth and Cordie Miller Duckworth. She was the widow of the late Fred B.
Griffin. Mrs. Griffin was a retired
seamstress and was of Baptist Faith.
Surviving are her daughter: Sarah
Jane Ray, of Albequerque, NM; two
sisters: Winnie Hesketh, and Lorena Reece, both of Blairsville; five
grandchildren: Freddie Chambers, Cindy Cooper, Angel Carroll, Kimberly
Davenport, and Penny Allen.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, October 7, 1998 from
the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Benny Nix
officiating. Special music was presented
by The Kelley
Trio. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Dave Carroll, Ed Cooper, Branon Clark, Rex Ballew, Robert
Terry
Reece, and Leon Spiva. Interment was in
Choestoe Cemetery.

Miss
Viola Vista Byers, age 94, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday,
October 4,
1998 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Miss Byers
was born Thursday, February 4, 1904, in Towns County, Georgia, a
daughter of
the late Nicholas A. Byers and Nancy Bryson Byers.
She was a lifelong resident of this area, and
was a member of Old Brasstown Baptist Church.
Surviving are
her sisters; Ella Faye Byers, of Blairsville, and Pauline Moss of
Greensboro,
NC; nephews; Gerald Byers, of Blairsville, Harold Moss of Brookville,
PA; and
Don Byers, of Dallas, GA; nieces; Marcie Malone, of Mauldin, SC; and
Nancy
Holyfields, of Palmetto, GA; several other nieces and nephews and other
relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, October 6, 1998 at 4
p.m. from Old Brasstown Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers
officiating. Special music was presented
by Terry Hooper
and Neal and Patsy Eferd. The following gentlemen serves as pallbearers: Gerald Byers,

mrs. ida marguerite “peggy” earman
Mrs.
Ida Marguerite “Peggy” Earman, age 77, of Blairsville, GA, passed away
Tuesday,
October 6, 1998, in a Union County, Georgia hospital.
She was a
native of Jacksonville, Florida. She was
a homemaker and had managed the office staff at her husband’s
Orthodontic
practice in West Palm Beach, Fla. She
was a member of the D.A.R., Seminole Chapter, West
Palm beach, Fla.
She was a
daughter of h late Nathan Thomas and Honour Marguerite Barnett Prather. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr.
John Robert Earman who passes away in 1997, and a son, Thomas Burke
Earman.
She is
survived by a son, John R. “Jack” Earman, Jr. of Boynton Beach, Fla; a
daughter
and her husband, Kathie and Charles Werner of Blairsville, GA; ten
grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Bell
Harrison, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, and of Lake Junaluska, N.C.,
passed
away Thursday, October 8, 1998. Mrs.
Harrison was born in Wilmington, N.C. on December 27, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Ernest
S. Bulluck and Bell Hyer Bulluck.
Mrs.
Harrison was a retired teacher having received degrees from Meredith
College
and Columbia University.
Mrs.
Harrison and her husband Charles Moore Harrison celebrated their 54th
wedding
anniversary.
Mrs.
Harrison was preceded in death by her eldest son Ernest Barnett
Harrison. She was an active member of
Mountain
Presbyterian Church, Blairsville, Georgia.
She is
survived by her husband Charles M. Harrison of Blairsville and Lake
Junaluska;
her son, William Samuel (Sam) Harrison; daughter-in-law, Nancy R.
Harrison and
granddaughters, Rosemary Helene Harrison and Virginia Bell Harrison,
all of
Roswell, Georgia; her brother, Dr. Matthew H. Bulluck of Charleston,
S.C.; her
brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Alyne Harrison of Blairsville,
Georgia; a
host of friends and other relatives also made up her family.
Memorials
services were held at Mountain Presbyterian Church
on October 11, at 3 p.m. and at Lake Junaluska Chapel on October 24th. Interment was in Wilmington, N.C.

Mrs.
Virginia Powell Pendley, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Tuesday,
October 6, 1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville, following an
extended
illness.
Mrs.
Pendley was born on Monday, October 30, 1911, in Fayette County,
Georgia, a
daughter of the late Chester Arthur Powell, and Bertha Jane Akin Powell. She had lived in Blairsville for the past 30
years, coming here from Atlanta. Mrs.
Pendley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville, where
she had
served as pianist and organist from many years in the past. Her husband, Roy C. Pendley, passed away in
1974.
Surviving is
her cousin, Wesley Wilson, of Millen, Georgia and many friends also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, October 9, 1998 at 11
a.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev.
Bethel
Buchanan and Rev. Danny Parris officiating.
Special music was presented by The Kelley Trio.
Interment was in McDonough City Cemetery.

Eugene Ervin Clause, age 85,m of
Blairsville, Georgia,
passed away Saturday, October 10, 1998 in Union County Nursing Home in
Blairsville.
Mr. Clouse
was born on Friday, February 28, 1913, the son of the late C.J. Clouse
and Anna
Davis Clouse. He had been living in the
Blairsville area since 1983, coming here from Andrews, NC.
Mr. clouse was
retired from general Motors. He was a
member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a
son, Bobby
Gene Clouse, in 1933.
Surviving are
his son, Charles Clouse of Port Clinton, Ohio; daughter, DeAnna
Wallish, of
Sparta, TN; sister, Alla Mae Dodson, of Crossville, TN; grandchildren:
DeAnna
Marie Clouse of Roanoke, VA; Charlene West, of port Clinton, Ohio and
Douglas
Clouse, of Las Vegas, Nevada; great granddaughter, Christy McNairy, of
Chula
Vista, California, also survives.

p.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Waymon Lovell

Shirley Irene Crocus, age 64, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Monday,
October 5, 1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Crocus was born on Monday, July 23, 1934, in Cuyaboga
County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Lewis Ellis Schweizer and Mary
Brinker
Schweizer. She had lived in Blairsville
since 1990, coming here from Tampa, Florida.
Mrs. Crocus was a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Union
County, where she was also a member of the united Methodist Women.
Surviving are
her husband, Donald Crocus, of Blairsville; daughters: Cathy Camper and
Carol
Cook, both of Tampa, and sons: Kenneth Crocus, and Keith Crocus, also
of Tampa;
brother: Allen Schweizer, of La Porte, Indiana; 4 grandchildren, nieces
and
nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, October 8 1998 at 11
a.m. from First United Methodist Church of Union County, with Rev.
Eddie
Herring officiating. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Keith and Kenneth Crocus, Brian Cook,
Allen
Schweizer, Buddy Whitten, and Larry Camper.
