Mr. William Sylvan Butts, age 67, of Antioch Church Road, Blairsville, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2003 in the Union General Hospital following a sudden illness.Mr. Butts was born on June 6, 1936 in Union County, the son of the late William Lester Butts and the late Bertha Annie Kendall Butts.He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.Mr. Butts was also a veteran of the US Army and was a member of Young Cane Masonic Lodge #597 F&AM.He was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Butts and a sister, Jerrie Goolsby.Mr. Butts was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist church.

Surviving Mr. Butts are his loving wife, Reva Jean Garrett Butts of Blairsville; two daughters, Gale Loyd and Jeannie Atkins, both of Blairsville; one son, Dale Butts of Blairsville; three sisters, Rethal Dills, Maude Lovell and Gladys Higgens, all of Blairsville; three grandchildren, Doug Loyd, Andy Loyd and Colt Atkins; two step-grandchildren, Joy Atkins and Matthew Atkins; three great-grandchildren, Tucker, Hunter and Austin Loyd; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating.Special music was presented by the Kelley Trio.The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers: Vester Dills, Kurt Butts, Doug Loyd, Andy Loyd, Jonathan Dills and Joey Atkins.Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Jack Moore, Michael Brewer and Arnold Butts.Interment followed in the church cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors.

Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Louise Valiante Vignola, 68, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2003 in Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, GA.

Mrs. Vignola was born in New York County, New York on Tuesday, May 14, 1935, a daughter of the late Anthony Valiante and Felicia Ricci Valiante.She was a homemaker and had lived in this area since 1981, moving here from Boynton Beach, Florida.She was of the Catholic faith.Her husband, Joseph T. Vignola, passed away in 1997.

Surviving are son, Joseph Vignola, Jr., of Blairsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Lee Barger, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Laura and David Bonelli, of Boca Raton, Florida and Lynda and Jim Padgett, of Dallas, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Jim Vignola, of Hiram, Georgia; sister, Rose Bente, of Lindenhurst, New York; two brothers, Joseph Valiante, of West Palm Beach, Florida and Neil Valiante, of Port Tobacco, Maryland; grandchildren, Jeffrey Barger, of Dunwoody, Georgia, Brandie Marie Vignola Cully and her husband, Jorge Christian Cully, of Augusta, Georgia, Kristen Bonelli, of Boca Raton, Florida, Lauren Marie Padgett and Felicia Lynn Padgett, both of Dallas, Georgia, Nicole Faith Vignola and Anthony Joseph Vignola, both of Hiram, Georgia; many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Father Richard Wise officiating.The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers: Joseph Vignola, Jr., Paul Vignola, Robert Griggs, James L. Padgett, Steven Foster, William C. Whitley, Jeffrey Barger, Lee Barger and Chris Cully.Burial was in Chattanooga National Cemetery for veterans.

Mrs. Mary Mongold LeGrand, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2003 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. LeGrand was born in Oconee County, South Carolina, a daughter of the late William Bry Mongold and Mary Bynum Mongold.She was a homemaker and had lived in Blairsville since 1983, moving from Moncks Corner, South Carolina.She was a charter member of Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her husband, William P. LeGrand, of Blairsville; daughter, Patricia G. Collins, of Hamilton, Georgia; a sister, Lois M. Barr of Blairsville, Georgia, grandson and wife, Michael and Denise Collins and granddaughter, Stephanie Collins, all of Atlanta, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Friday, October 20, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Travis Adams officiating.Burial was held at the Double Springs Methodist Church Cemetery in Mountain rest, South Carolina, Saturday, October 11th at 2:00 PM

Mr. Jack M. Meeks, age 72, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2003, in St. Josephís Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Meeks was born in Washington County, Georgia on Monday, August 17, 1931, a son of the late Winton McKinley Meeks and Lila Walden Meeks.He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War.Mr. Meeks had worked as an internal auditor with the telephone company.He and his wife had lived in Blairsville since 1993.jack was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville and enjoyed hiking and gardening.

Surviving are his wife, Marge Meeks, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Jack M. Jr., and Tonia Meeks, of Snellville, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Leon Daniel and Emily Meeks, of Stone Mountain, Georgia; a son Charles Eric Meeks, of Covington, Georgia; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Lisa Gayle and Jay Adams, of Delavan, Wisconsin; two sisters, Dannie Rutherford, of lake Placid, Florida and Lawania Bloodworth, of Horseshoe, Florida; two brothers, Nathaniel Meeks, of Mobile, Alabama and Loranzie Meeks, of Milledgeville, Georgia; a grandson, David Meeks and granddaughter, Regina Meeks; many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 11:00 am, from Blairsville First Baptist Chapel, with Rev. Danny Parris and Rev. Mike Hardy officiating.Special music was presented by Curtis Underwood, Mike Hardy and pianist, Mrs. Jackie Hill.The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers: Glenn McKee, Allen Conley, Jack Howington, George Radcliffe, Philip Gamache, Jay Shupe and Hatch Hatchell.Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens Cemetery.Graveside military honors were presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

Mr. Everett Wimpey, age 93, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2003, in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mr. Wimpey was born in Union County, Georgia on Saturday, April 23, 1910, a son of the late Arch Wimpey and the late Maranda Souther Wimpey.Mr. Wimpey was a farmer and member and deacon of Old Liberty Baptist Church.He had been preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Wimpey and two sisters, Frankie Lance and Ada Plott.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jozene and Kelly Thomas, of Conyers, Georgia; two sons and daughters-in-law, J.E. and Ann Wimpey, of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Jurrell and Nanci Wimpey, of Jonesboro, Georgia; a sister, Cornelia Seabolt, of Blairsville; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at 2:00 pm from Old Liberty Baptist Church in Blairsville with Rev. Neal Efird officiating.Special music was presented by Old Liberty Baptist Church Choir.The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers: Billy England, Robert Boyette, Andy Bray, Gene Collins and F.C. Collins.Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Richard Edwin Trendel, age 65, of Blairsville, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2003 at his home following an extended illness.Mr. Trendel was born on July 23, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Robert A. Trendel and the late Dorothy Dornblaser Trendel.He was a veteran of the US Air Force.He had retired from the printing business in 1998.Mr. Trendel was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mr. Trendel are his loving wife of thirty years, Shirley Boch Trendel of Blairsville; one sister, Susan Shoemaker of Holiday, Florida; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Virginia Trendel of Mt. Pleasant, WI., James and Judie Trendel of Fuquay-Varina, NC; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mark Atwood officiating.In lieu of flowers, if you wish the family requests that memorials be made to United Hospice, 5004 Appalachian Hwy., Suite 4, Blue Ridge, GA., 30513, in Mr. Trendelís memory.

Pattie tarlton polsgrove hamilton

 

Mrs. Pattie Tarlton Polsgrove Hamilton, age 56, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2003 in St. Josephís Hospital in Atlanta.

Mrs. Hamilton was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, on Friday, November 15, 1946, a daughter of the late Grover Polsgrove and Mary Jane Patti Polsgrove.She had been a teacher and was very active in the Blairsville community; Friends of the Library, Blairsville Garden Club and Adult Literacy.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Hamilton, of Blairsville; a daughter, Sara Hamilton Banke of Kennesaw, Georgia; a son and daughter-in-law, Shelby Daniel and Allison Hamilton of Katy, Texas; a sister, Maribeth Moody, of Winchester, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Tyler and Daniel Banke; many other friends and family also survive.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at 2:00 from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Dr. John Kay and Rev. Ernie Faulkenberry officiating.Special music was presented by jean and Jacob Craig.

Mrs. Maebell Taylor Lee, age 62, of Winston Drive, Blairsville passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at her home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Lee was born on May 17, 1941 in Fannin County, the daughter of the late Paul Taylor and the late Willia Mae Meers Taylor.She was a lifelong resident of Union County and was a former employee of Cooks Country Kitchen in Blairsville.Mrs. Lee was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Lee are her loving children, Kathy and Homer Hunter of Morganton, William and Cathy Lee of Blairsville, Wendall and Tammy Lee of Blairsville, Norma Jean and B.L. Anderson of Blairsville, Edgar and Michelle Lee of Blairsville, Tony and Kathy Lee of Blairsville, Melissa and Stevie Abercrombie of Blairsville, Jason Lee of Blairsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Lois Nell and Gene Porter of Blairsville; two brothers, Monroe Taylor of Blairsville and David and Cathy Taylor of Blairsville; twenty three grandchildren; two great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 13, 2003 from the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Bryant and Rev. William Sisum officiating.Special music was presented by Larry and Phyllis Bryson.The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Wendall Payne, Kenny Payne, Jason Cook Michael Cook, Ricky Allen and Dustin Young.Serving as honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Leeís grandchildren.Interment followed in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
