            Mrs. Jean M. "Lady J" Hansen, age 82, of Brackett Creek Lane, Blairsville passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Chatuge regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee following an extended illness.  She was born March 7, 1931 in Belleville, MI to the late Anthony and Alice (Scheffler) Sears.  Mrs. Hansen moved here 31 years ago from Clearwater, FL.  She owned and operated "Lady J Boutique here in Blairsville. (sic)  

            Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Russell E. Hansen of Blairsville, GA; children: Theadore Hansen and Karen Kimmel of Buford, GA; Timothy and Deborah Hansen of Lawrenceville, GA; Terresa and Raymond Fowler of Alpharetta, GA; Anthony c. Hansen; sisters: Arlene and Dean Ristau of Clearwater, FL and Marcella Desenroth of Whitmore, MI; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

            There will be a gathering of family and friends on October 19, 2013 between the hours of 12 noon and 9 p.m. at her home at 250 Brackett Creek Lane, Blairsville, GA.

            Mrs. Ruth Russell Sullivan, age 94, of Arrendale Estates Lane, Blairsville passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Union General Hospital following an extended illness. She was born May 3, 1919 in Copperhill, TN to the late Earl and Minnie Crawford Russell. Mrs. Sullivan was preceded in death by her husband, William Park Sullivan, Sr. in 2013.          

Survivors include children, Phyllis Sullivan Turner and her husband Charles of Blairsville, GA; Debra Sullivan Nelms and her husband Gerry of Marietta, GA and William P. Sullivan, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Ellijay, GA; sisters: Evelyn Smith of Bogart, GA and Edna Taylor of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Cherie Turner Bowman, Mark Turner, Doug Sullivan, Michael Sullivan, Jonathan Sullivan, Andrew Nelms, Jeffrey Nelms, Michelle Dutton, Amber Gil-De-Rubio and Kaitlyn Gil-De-Rubio, great grandchildren; Stephen Bowman, Sarah Bowman, Stuart Turner, Grace Turner, Emily Turner, Justin Sulllivan (sic), Wade Sullivan, Whitney Smith, Braelyn Sullivan, Logan Nelms, Bristal Smith, Russell Smith and Emma Gil-De-Rubio, great-great grandchildren, Bryson Smith and Brianna Sullivan.

            A time of remembrance was held Friday, October 11, 2013 from 1 until 3 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home. Interment was in Sugar Creek Cemetery in Blue Ridge, GA.

rhonda kay grant

 

            Mrs. Rhonda Kay Grant, age 50, of Brown Ridge Dr., Blairsville, passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 following a brief illness. She was born March 16, 1963 in Dickson, TN. She moved here in 1998 from Tennessee. Rhonda was a loving sister, wife, mother, nanny and friend, and was very compassionate about her grandchildren. She loved Soap Operas, Georgia Bulldogs and peanuts and unicorns. She was a funny, outgoing, real person. Rhonda was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Lewis Grant, III in 2009, mother, Nancy Reeves Davidson and brother, Patrick Pendergrass in 2008. She was of the Baptist Faith.

            Survivors include her children: Amanda Christy and Steven Beaver of Blairsville, GA; Charlotte and Trina Frierson of Nashville, TN; Julian and Ashley Grant, IV of Canton, GA; Lori and Rob Paul of Pinkard, AL; Shawn Grant of Ft. Myers, FL and Donnie DeLong of Ft. Myers, FL; father, Lester Davidson of Dickson, TN and step-father, Rayburn Pendergrass of Dickson, TN; brothers, James and Connie Davidson of Dickson, TN; Derek Pendergrass of Bon Aqua, TN; and Willie and Amy Pendergrass of Dickson, TN; sisters: Brenda and Tony Jenkins of Bon Aqua, TN; Sherri and Kris Brooks of Lyles, TN; and Donna Burrow of Lyles, TN; grandchildren: Riley, Kala, Kanishea, Destiny, Little J.J., Brian, Nick, Lanna, Kewanna, Kevin, Jaylynn, Lizzy and Chelsea, great grandchild, Jaylah; special friends, Crystal Anderson, Cathy Robinette, Vea, Amanda Patterson, Renee and Gina.

            Funeral services were held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon McDonald officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Steven Beaver, Dale Weaver, Willie Pendergrass, Derek Pendergrass, James Davidson, Jeffery Fox, J.J. Grant, Kevin Frierson and Tim Grant. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made to Mountain View Funeral Home to help defray expenses.

james jasper hunter

 

            Mr. James Jasper Hunter, age 77, of Warner Robins, GA, passed away Monday, October 7, 2013.

            James was born in Blairsville in 1936, the last of nine children. He joined the Air Force when he was 18 and retired after 26 years of service to his country. During his years in the military, he had lived in Tucson, AZ and San Antonio, TX. For the past 30 years, James had lived in Warner Robins. He was a member of Choestoe Baptist Church.

            James was preceded in death by his parents, Hayes and Lydia Hunter; siblings: Howard Hunter, Hazel Collins, Irene Shuler, Mary Lou Walker and his beloved son, James Michael Hunter.

            James will be lovingly remembered and missed by his surviving family members: sisters, Lucille Johnson, of Oak Ridge, TN; Blanche Swain and Doris Souther, of Blairsville, GA; brother, Franklin Hunter of Blairsville; step-son, Kris Kimmy of Erie, PA; dear friend Mary Clements, and several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services for James were held on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Ken Zollinger officiating. Special music for the service was presented by Bill Collins and Buddy Hunter, and Martha Collins. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ken Walker, Mike Johnson, Barry Collins, Benny Collins, Eric England, and Chris Souther. Burial was in Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery, with Military Honors presented by U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation was held at the funeral home for one hour before the service began.

            Memorial contributions may be made to Annandale Village, 3500 Annandale Lane, Suwannee, GA 30024.

            The family would like to gratefully acknowledge and is deeply appreciative of our friend Brandon Champion for taking care of James during his extended illness.

elisabeth naomi reed brock

 

            Mrs. Elisabeth Naomi Reed Brock, age 35, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday evening, October 7, 2013 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

            Elisabeth was born in Concord, New Hampshire, on April 30, 1978, a daughter of Roger and Charlotte Reed. She was employed for many years with United Community Bank in Blairsville, as a Customer Service Representative. Elisabeth had attended Bob Jones University, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree, with a major in Interior Design and a minor in Business. She attended First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

            Elisabeth will be lovingly remembered by all, and especially missed by her loving family members: husband, Josh Brock, whom she married on March 30, 2002; her mother, Charlotte Reed, of Marble, North Carolina, and Pittsburg, New Hampshire; brothers and sisters-in-law: Todd and Denise Reed, of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska; Wade and Veralisa Reed of Rumney, New Hampshire; Dwight and Rosalie Reed, of Andrews, North Carolina; and John and Kathleen Reed, of Wentworth, New Hampshire; sisters and brothers-in-law: Donna and Danny Pullium, of Marble, North Carolina; and Sarah and Aaron Rediger, of Herndon, Virginia; many friends, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.

            Funeral services for Elisabeth were held at 3 PM Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Ernst, Dr. Fred Lodge and Rev. John Sherwood officiating.

            Special music for the service was presented by Pat Morales, Pastor Rusty Thomas, and pianist Amanda McBride. The following gentlemen were selected by the family to serve as pallbearers: Wade Reed, Dwight Reed, John Reed, Todd Reed, Vann Brock, Zach Brock, Mark Dressler, and Blake Phillips.

            Memorial contributions may be made to help with missionary work for Vann and Vanessa Brock, at vvbrock.com; or Central Missionary Clearing house, for Vann Brock Family, P.O. Box 219228, Houston, Texas 77218-9228; or to The Gideons International.

            Burial was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville. Visitation was held at Cochran Funeral Home on Saturday, October 12, 2013, with the family especially meeting with friends between the hours of 6 until 8 p.m.
