           Rev. Billy Ray Anderson, age 66, of Ivy Log Road, Warne, NC passed away October 8, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. He was born April 7, 1946 in Union County. Rev. Billy was a lifelong resident of Clay County and was an ordained Baptist Minister. He had worked for many years as a mechanic at Nelson Tractor. Rev. Billy was a member of River Valley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Anderson and brother, Troy Anderson.

           Survivors include his wife Sandra Anderson of Warne, NC, mother, Verda Anderson of Blairsville, GA, daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Genaro Olvera of Warne, NC, brothers, Loster Anderson of Warne, NC, Cecil and Janice Anderson of Warne, NC, Ricky and Jeanie Anderson of Blairsville, GA, Dwight and Linda Anderson of Blairsville, GA, sisters, Christine Gilbert Anderson of Warne, NC, Mary Jo and Charles King of Blairsville, GA, Marie and Doug Chastain of Murphy, NC, Dorothy and Tommy Dockery of Blairsville, GA, Della and Jim Wiles of Homer, GA, grandchildren, Jose, Migel, Carlos, Ariana and Antonio Olvera.

           Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at River Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Waymon Lovell and Rev. Emory Samples officiating. Music was by Annie Jean Garland and Cody Cantrell. Pallbearers were Gearld Denton, Michael Denton, Jamie Dockery, Devin Dockery, Shawn Chastain and Johnny Chastain. Honorary pallbearers were Danny Davis, Gerald Davenport, Jerry Mathis, Charles Raper, Doyle Brown and Ricky Brown. Interment followed in River Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish the family suggest donations be made to help defray expenses. The family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.

ralph lovell

 

           Ralph Lovell, age 81, of Dahlonega, GA, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at his home.

           Ralph was a Union County, GA native who had lived in Lumpkin County since 1970. He was a former Gainesville resident. He was a retired truck driver and was of the Baptist faith.

           He was the son of the late Robert and Pearl Stephens Lovell and was also preceded in death by his wife, Lila Mae Lovell; brother, Junior Lovell; sister, Goldie Lovell; and grandson, Matthew Pruitt.

           Ralph is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Misty Lovell, Jerrold Lovell and Tammy Lovell, all of Dahlonega, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Tonya Young and Allen Passmore, Clermont, GA, Gail Lovell, Dahlonega, GA; brother, Randall Lovell, Tennessee; sisters, Sarah Ethel Moore, Lucille Bridges, Allene and Bruce Patterson, Bernice Anderson, and Bobbie Jones, all  of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren, James Lovell, Tyler Lovell, Tiffany Young, Michaela Passmore, Mary Olivia Passmore, Angel Green, Timmy Davis, and Jeremy Roberts. Numerous other relatives also survive.

           Funeral services for Ralph were scheduled for 12 Noon Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.
Rev. Carl Helton officiate. Interment followed in Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery.

           The family received friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Thursday from 6 PM until 9 PM, all day Friday, and again on Saturday until the time of the service.

charles edward rogers

 

           Mr. Charles Edward Rogers, age 80, of Hawks Nest Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Friday October 12, 2012 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Rogers was born on March 12, 1931 in Cherry Log, GA, the son of the late Dewey Rogers and the late Jewell Sisson Rogers. He was a veteran of the US Army. Charles loved woodworking, gardening and was a devout church goer. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Preceding him in death are a son, Gary Lee Rogers in 1980, two sisters, Bonnie Hilton and Mildred Lingo, two brothers, Rev. J.D. Rogers and Rev. Ralph Rogers. He was a member and Deacon at Rock Creek Baptist Church since 1962.

           Surviving Mr. Rogers are his loving wife of sixty-one years, Evelyn Dalrymple Rogers of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Sharon Rogers of Ellijay, GA, Glenda and James Gilreath of Blairsville, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Clint and Clara Rogers of Blue Ridge, Rev. C. B. Rogers of Canton, GA, six sisters, Edna Jackson of Marietta, Ellen Moore of Smyrna, GA, Gertrude and Jerry Galman of Dalton, Barbara and Jimmy McVey of Ellijay, Betty and Tom Chastain of Cherry Log, Judy and Merle Beaver of Ellijay, two grandchildren, Abby and Derek Jackson, Greg and Beverly Rogers, many other relatives and friends also survive.

           Funeral services were held on Sunday Oct.14, 2012 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Adam Fleming and Rev. Tony Gilbert officiating. Special music was presented by The Moss Family. The following gentleman served as pallbearers, Derek Jackson, Charles Hughes, Dwayne Davenport, Charles Young, William Cantrell and Stanley Dockery. Interment followed in the Meadow View Cemetery. The family met with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 5-9 p.m.

              Danny Lee Deyton, age 55 of Dahlonega, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Chestatee Regional Hospital. Mr. Deyton was born September 13, 1957 the son of George Henry Deyton and Ellen Joyce Deyton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Michael Deyton.

           Survivors include: wife, Patsy Chamberlain, daughter, Tina (William) Frady, step-son, Thomas Broome, step-daughter, Julie (Ashley) Bridges, step-daughter, Kimberly Chamberlain, sister, Nancy Deyton, grandchildren, Jasmine Frady, Austin Frady, Dusty Whitfield, Courtney Chamberlain and Natalie Bridges.

           Funeral services were held Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Payne officiating. Interment was in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Keith Heath, Jesse Payne, Christopher Edge, Glen Berry, Steven Passmore.

         Mrs. Helen Irene Holloway age 80 of Caylee Anne Drive, Blairsville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Holloway was born on April 16, 1932 in Pleasant Plains, IL, the daughter of the late Harold and the late Ruby Harris Zick. Before her retirement Helen had been an R.N. for several years and received numerous awards throughout her career. Helen enjoyed helping others, loved her family and enjoyed gardening in her spare time. Her son, Michael Robert Holloway preceded her in death earlier this year. Mrs. Holloway was of the Methodist faith.

           Surviving Mrs. Holloway are her loving husband of sixty-two years, Rev. Jack Holloway of Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Marla Holloway of Hanna City, IL, John and Kathleen Holloway of Naples, FL, one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Evert Hansen of Donna, TX, nine grandchildren, Chad, (wife Kelly) Becki, Marissa, Morgan, Corazon, Turner, Angie and Andy Holloway. Angie Steiner and Megan Brown, along with 5 great grandchildren.

           A memorial service will be held at a later date with interment to follow in the Marissa Cemetery in Marissa, IL. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee in Helenís memory.

           Mrs. Nancy Jennifer Clayton age 65 of Tate Rd., Blairsville formerly of Marietta passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Clayton was born on March 2, 1947 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of the late Hubert Visscher and the late Jean Campbell Visscher. Nancy was a loving mother, sister and grandmother. Mrs. Clayton was of the Presbyterian faith.

           Surviving Mrs. Clayton are one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Tim Powell of Marietta, two sons, Shawn Clayton of Marietta and Nick Jones of Marietta, three brothers and two sisters-in-law, David and Judy Visscher of Lilburn, GA, Bruce Visscher of Greensboro, NC, Ralph and Stephanie Visscher of Chicago, IL, two grandchildren, Bryan Powell and Andrew Powell, many other relatives and friends also survive.

           A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to a favorite church of your choice in Mrs. Claytonís memory.

lavon crawford butt

 

           Mrs. Lavon Crawford Butt, 99 years of age, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, GA, passed away in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.

           Mrs. Butt was born in Blairsville on Wednesday, August 20, 1913, a daughter of the late George Edward Crawford and the late Mary Belle Walker Crawford. She was a lifelong resident of Blairsville, and was retired from the Union County Public School System, where she had taught for 25 years. Mrs. Butt had worked for 12 years with the Mountain Regional Library; during her tenure, she was instrumental in obtaining funding for the new Mountain Regional Library Building in Young Harris, GA. Mrs. Butt was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County, and had worked tirelessly, along with others, to obtain the goal of a new sanctuary and all the additions at the church. An active member of the Retired Teacher's Association; Union County Historical Society, Union General Hospital Auxiliary, and The Golden Club - Mrs. Butt was a great asset to our community as she worked diligently for the good of the community, well into her 90's. Preceding her in death was her husband, Sylvan Butt; a son, Jasper Owenby Butt; sisters: Sharon Jones; Lorena O'Neal; and brothers: Joffre Crawford, Dormas Crawford and Joe Crawford.

           Mrs. Butt was dearly loved by her family and the community, and her memory and her go9od works will follow her. She will be greatly missed, and leaves behind these family members: granddaughter and her husband, Mary Ellen and David Pickman, of Arrington, TN; sister, Delphia Millar, of Abilene, TX and brother, Daniel C. Crawford, of Blairsville; grandchildren: Jonathan Pickman, Rebecca Pickman, Benjamin Pickman, and Seth Pickman; many other relatives and friends also survive.

           Funeral services for Mrs. Butt were held on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 3 p.m., at First United Methodist Church of Union County, with Rev. Eddie Herring, Rev. Jan Devereaux, and Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. Special music was presented by Justin Peters. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mickey Jones, Terry Jones, David Pickman, Jonathan Pickman, Jerry Penland, Jeff Berry, and Scott Hudgins. Serving as honorary escort were the following gentlemen: George Berry, Clark Crawford, James Jones, and Dan Crawford. Burial was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville, where she was laid to rest by her late husband. Visitation was held at First United Methodist Church of Union County, on Thursday, October 11, 2012, beginning at 1 p.m., and end at 3 p.m., when the funeral started.
