mr. carlton jolly shaw

 

Mr. Carlton Jolly Shaw, age 70, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at his residence.

Mr. Shaw was born Friday, may 17, 1935 in Fulton County, Georgia, to the late Herman Shaw and Margaret Jolly Shaw.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County, Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114, F & AM, American Legion Post #121, Appalachian Shriner Club and was an U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.  He was preceded in death by daughter, Avis Marie Shaw and sister, Margaret Shaw.

Survivors include: wife, Avis Shaw of Blairsville, Georgia; daughter & son-in-law, Carla and Devan Persaud of Duluth, Georgia; grandson, Christian Edwards of Blairsville, Georgia; brother, William Shaw of Decatur, Georgia; sister, Sylvia Hill of Bell, Florida; brother, David Shaw of Snellville, Georgia; sister, Marilyn Langley of Scottdale, Georgia; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Union County with the Rev. Eddie Herring, officiating.  Music will be provided by First United Methodist Church of Union County Choir.  Interment will follow in Union Memory Gardens with Masonic Graveside Rites conducted by Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114.  Serving as pallbearers were: Brett Owenby, Dustin Lee, Levi “Bo” McClure, Cody White, David Franklin, Evan Lance, Joe Petrevich, Chris McClure.  Honorary pallbearers include: Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114, American Legion Post #121, Appalachian Shire Club.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Tuesday and Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to:  First United Methodist Church of Union County, Building Fund, 859 Hwy 515, Blairsville, GA 30512 or A.L.S. Association, 1955 Cliff Valley Way, Suite 116, Atlanta, GA 30329 or Shriners Childrens Hospital.

miss addie mae burnham

 

Miss Addie Mae Burnham, age 101, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Union County Nursing Home.

Miss Burnham was born Saturday, October 31, 1903 in Houston County, Alabama, to the late Marion M. Burnham and Jennett Armstrong Burnham.  She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church, in Auburndale, Florida.  She was preceded in death by sisters, Dora Andrews and Louise Smith; brothers, Archie, Thomas and Jack Burnham.

Survivors include: brother, Charlie Burnham of Panama City, Florida; sisters, Marian Oswald of Mariana, Florida; Gwen Granger of Cottonwood, Alabama; Frances Edwards of Panama City, Florida; and Sybil Jones of Auburndale, Florida; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 16, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Kersey Funeral Home in Auburndale, FL with the Rev. David Gurgel officiating.  Interment will follow in Auburndale City Cemetery.

The family will received friends at the funeral home before the service.

mrs. mildred stone

 

Mrs. Mildred Stone, age 93, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Stone was born Monday, December 9, 1911 in Union County, GA to the late Ira Ross and Nora Williams Ross.  A member of First United Methodist Church of Union County.  She was preceded in death by sisters, Mabel Ross Bradbury, Frances Ross Apple and Flora Ross Lee, brother, James R. Henderson.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Susan Barron of Alpharetta, GA; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister, Sue Turner of Blairsville, GA; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. from the Union County Nursing Home with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Union County Nursing Home Discretionary Fund in memory of Mildred Stone, 550 Nursing Home Circle, Blairsville, GA 30512.

Mr. Wallace Lee York, age 66, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2005.

Mr. York was born Saturday, June 17, 1939 in Atlanta, GA to the late Walter York and Henrietta (Catarina) York.  He was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Callaway and Faye Williams.  He was an employee of Colwell Construction.

Survivors include: wife, Shirley B. York of Blairsville, GA; son and daughter-8in-law, Steve and Vicky of Mechanicsville, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tom VanTol of Naples, FL; daughter, Cher York of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren, Allen and Sara Hill of Mechanicsville, VA and Jenna VanTol of Naples, FL, several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Monday, October 17, 2005 at 5:30 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.

mrs. faye fransteine lanier

 

Mrs. Faye Fransteine Lanier, age 66, of Tanyard Court, Blairsville, formerly of Vidalia, GA, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Lanier was born on Nov. 7, 1938 in Vidalia, GA, the daughter of the late Bennie Winge and the late Aileen Allen Winge.  Mrs. Lanier was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Lanier are two sons and one daughter-in-aw, Billy Griffin of Baxley, GA, Phillip and Garrien Lanier of Blairsville, one daughter, Kimberly Seeba of Jacksonville, FL, one brother, Bennie H. Winge of Jacksonville, FL, three sisters, Diane Mills, Darlene Thigpen and Jackie McCall all of Lyons, GA, five grandchildren, Ashtin, William II, Kimberly, Trevor and Amber, four great-grandchildren, Adrian, Marty, Peggy and Priscilla, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from the Harmony Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to harmony Grove Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Lanier’s memory.

mrs. blanche rowe stoner

 

Mrs. Blanche Rowe Stoner, age 96, of Stonehenge Dr., Blairsville, formerly of Winter Park, FL, passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Stoner was born on Oct. 31, 1908 in Douglas, ND, the daughter of the late Winfred Rowe and the late Blanche Kinney Stoner.  Mrs. Stoner attended the Winter Park Presbyterian Church.

Surviving Mrs. Stoner are one daughter, Patricia (Pat) Thornstad of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Brian Thornstad of Cary, NC, Cindy Barnes of Huntsville, AL, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday Oct. 19, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Stonehenge with Chaplin Jerry Johnson officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in Mrs. Stoner’s memory.
