Mrs.
Theresa B. Burcin age 81 of Lakeside
Rd., Hiawassee formerly of Blairsville passed away on Sunday, October
10, 2010
at Lazy R Assisted Living following an extended illness.
Mrs. Burcin was born on September 12, 1929 in
Pittsburg, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph Paga and the late Nellie
Kurowski Paga. She enjoyed baking and
spending time with her friends and family.
She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
William Burcin in 1988. Mrs. Burcin was
a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.
Surviving Mrs. Burcin are one
daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Dave Simony of Hiawassee, one brother
and
sister-in-law, Steve and Bea Paga of Pittsburg, PA, two grandchildren,
Georgia
and Leann Simony both of Hiawassee, many other relatives and friends
also
survive.
A memorial service held (sic) on
Tuesday, October 19, 201 at 2 p.m. from Lazy R Assisted Living with
Chaplain
Jim Crew officiating.
Interment in the Daytona Memorial Park
Cemetery in Dayton, FL. In lieu of
flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to
the Care
Givers at Lazy R in memory of Mrs. Burcin.

Rev. Troy
Acree, 84, of Blairsville, Georgia,
passed away October 12, 2010 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Troy was
born in
Gordon, County, Georgia on October 25, 1925, the 10th son of the late
Dr.
Marvin and Webbie Hudgins Acree. He was
a retired Baptist Minister, having served churches in Kentucky, and
Hartwell,
Cumming, Douglasville and Newnan, GA, he served as Mountain Area
Missionary for
the Georgia Baptist Convention and in several interim pastorates. Troy was a WWII veteran, US Army 100th
infantry division, and served in the European Theatre. He
was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist
Church, an active Mason for over 50 years and was a member of Alleghany
Lodge #
114, and a long time member of the Kiwanis Club. Troy
was preceded in death by his much beloved
wife, Renva Smith Acree.
He is
survived by
his four children, Wanda (Doug) Greene of Forrestburg, TX, Allen T.
(Elaine)
Acree, Jr., Marc (Charis) Acree of Lagrange, GA and Penny A. (Michael)
Hood of
Villa Rica, GA, brother, Marvin (Retta) Acree of Covington, GA,
sisters-in-law,
Fletcher P. Acree of Luthersville, GA and Sara Acree of Hiawassee, GA;
seven
grandchildren, Stephen Greene, Benjamin Greene, Rachel Reagan, Patrick
Reagan,
Esta A. Busby, Marisa Acree and Claire Acree, two great-grandchildren,
Martha
and Theo Greene.
Funeral
services are
scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 from McConnell
Memorial
Baptist Church with Rev. Dough Merck, Rev. Don Pickerill, and Rev.
Jimmy
McAdams officiating. Special music was
presented by Connie Lake, Ralph Grady, and Mary Beth Hutcheson. Interment followed in Osborn Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites provided by the
Masons.
The
family received
friends at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, Friday evening from 6
until 8
p.m.

Mrs.
Reeva Lois Potts, age 76, of Plott Town Rd., Young Harris, passed away
on
Friday October 15, 2010 following an extended illness. Mrs.
Potts was born on Jan. 13, 1934 in Union
County, the daughter of the late James Hayes Souther and the late
Frances Etta
Ensley Souther. She was a lifelong
resident of Towns County. She was a
loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Reeva
was preceded in death by her husband,
Hobert Potts, a daughter, Vickie Ensley, grandson, David Lovell and by
three
brothers, Raleigh, Raymond and Ronald Souther. Mrs.
Potts attended Old Union Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Potts are three
daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Richard Postell of Murphy,
Beverly and
Bill Hampton of Young Harris, Debbie and Donald Lovell of Free Port,
FL, seven
grandchildren, Holly, Jessi, Becky, Jacob, Josh, Travis and Hannah, two
great-grandchildren,
Makayla and Jason, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on
Tuesday Oct. 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Old Union Baptist Church with
the Rev.
L.B. Adams and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Mrs.
Potts lay in state at the church on
Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. The following
gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Travis Postell, Jacob Lovell, Josh
Lovell,
Chris Krout, Junior Ensley and Bill Hampton. Interment
followed in the Old Union Church
Cemetery. The family met with friends at
the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Mr.
Julian L. Brown,
age 85, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010, in
Union
General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Brown
was born
in Atlanta, GA, on Friday, January 2, 1925, a son of the late Julian
Eugene
Brown and the late Delree Locke Brown. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and achieved the rank of Corporal, and
served
during World War II. Julian had been
living in Blairsville since 2002, moving here from Ellijay, GA. He was a member of First Baptist Church of
Blairsville, and a member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge. Besides
his parents, he was also preceded in
death by a sister, Louise Trudelle.
Surviving
family
members include his wife, O'Nell Todd Brown; daughter and son-in-law,
Barbara
and Greg Parkinson, of Traverse City, MI; son and daughter-in-law,
Russell and
Connie Brown, of Resaca, GA; step-son and his wife, Bruce and Vicki
Holliday,
of Acworth, GA; step-son, Carl L. Holliday, of Flowery Branch, GA; and
step-son
and his wife, Jeffrey and Lesa Holliday, of Rossville, GA; "adopted"
son and his wife, Dr. Jack and Joan Pennington, of Blairsville;
"adopted"
son and his wife, Mel & Susannah White; sisters-in-law and
brothers-in-law,
Elsie and Cecil Daniels, of Macon, GA, and Thelma and Bob Sudderth, of
Woodstock, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Giesla Todd
of
Madison, IN; sister-in-law, Claudia Todd of Blairsville; brother-in-law
and
sister-in-law, Bill and Becky Currie, of Ellijay, GA; 4 grandchildren
and 7
step-grandchildren; and 4 step-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services
were held Friday, October 15, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist
Church
of Blairsville, with Dr. Fred Lodge and Rev. Roy Bateman officiating. The body was instate at the church beginning
at 10 a.m. on the day of the service. Special
music was provided by Minister R. Terry Hooper. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Bruce T. Holliday, Carl L. Holliday, Jeff Holliday, Dr. Jack
Pennington, Blake
Brown, and Mel White. Graveside services
were held in Yukon Cemetery in Ellijay, Georgia, with Rev. Jennings
Neeld
officiating. North Georgia Honor Guard
presented Military Honors. Visitation at
the funeral home was held on Thursday, October 14, 2010, after 6 p.m.,
with the
family especially meeting with friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
