Mr.
Robert Queen, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday,
October 12,
1998 in Union County.
Mr. Queen
was born in Union County, Georgia on Sunday, May 12, 1935, a son of the late Howard Queen and Retha Hill Queen. He was a lifelong resident of this area, and
was employed as manager of a local farm.
Mr. Queen was a member of Youngstown Baptist Church.
Surviving are
his wife, Mrs. Jerri Queen, of Blairsville; daughters, Sharon Murphy,
of
Sautee, GA; and Suzanne Davis, of Blairsville; son, Craig Queen, of
Lawrenceville, GA; sisters: Charlene Turner and Carol Dodd, both of
Gainesville; and Suzie Nichols, of Marietta, GA; brother, Jimmy Queen,
of
Blairsville; four grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, October 14, 1998 at 2
p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev.
Waymon
Lovell officiating. Special music was
presented
by Ken and Elaine Young. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Terry Queen, Douglas Queen, John
Murphy, Mike
Gowder, and George and David Gowder.
Interment was in Queen Cemetery in Blairsville.

Mr.
Stephen Paul Piktelis, age 41, of Boemanns Street, Blairsville,
Georgia,
formerly of Norwich, CT, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, September
29, 1998.
Mr.
Piktelis was born on November 7, 1956 in Worcester, Mass.
He was a son of the late John and Margaret
Piktelis.
He was a
professional mover working for The Moving Men in Hiawassee.
He leaves
behind his wife, Shawney and his children Joshua, Ashley, Abby, Emily
and
Annabelle. He attended the Assemblies of
God Church in Blairsville.
A memorial
service will be held at The Assemblies of God Church off Pat Colwell
Road on
Sunday, October 25, 1998 at 10:30 p.m.

Mr.
Eldridge “Bill” Cotheran, age 55, of Blairsville, Georgia, passes away
Tuesday,
October 13, 1998 at his home in Union County, Georgia.
Mr.
Cotheran was born in Clay County, North Carolina, on Saturday, January
2, 1943, a son of Hazel may Henson Cotheran
and the late Cord
Deverice Cotheran. Mr. Cotheran lived in
Benton Harbor, Michigan, for fifteen years of his life, but moved back
to
Blairsville twenty years ago. He was a
member of Lower Bell Creek Baptist Church in Hiawassee.
Surviving are
his wife, Evelyn Pruitt Cotheran, of Blairsville; his mother, Hazel
Cotheran,
of Blairsville; children: Dorothy Jean Meachum, of Hartford, Michigan;
Luther
Wright, of Murphy, NC; James Lamar Wright and Kenneth Wayne Wright,
both of
Blairsville; and Teresa Ann Ledford, of Hiawassee; brothers: Jerry
Cotheran, of
Hiawassee, Clifton and Claude Cotheran, both of Blairsville; sisters:
Anna
Brown, of Brasstown, NC; Florence Shelton and Millie Arrowood, both of
Blairsville and Aletta Wood, of Hiawassee; half brothers: Wayne
Cotheran, of
Ronake, VA; Ross Cotheran, of Longview, WA; Arline Cothran, of
Brinkley, AK;
and half sisters: Lula Belle Powell, of Centralia, Washington;
grandchildren:
Cory and Kyle Meachum, Jamie, Dwayne, Jessica and Bradley Wright and
Billy and
Brittany Ledford. A host of other
relatives and friends also survive.

services were held Thursday, October 15, 1998 at 2
p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev.
Willis
Watkins officiating. Special music was
presented
by The Lower Bellview Choir. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: James, Luther, Kenneth
Wright; Tim Ledford, Bobby Meachum, and Dale Wood.
Interment was in Moss Memorial Cemetery in
Tusquittee.

Mr.
Loy Willis Woody, age 82, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday,
October 14, 1998 in Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville.
Mr. Woody
was born in Fannin County, Georgia, on Friday, January 14, 1916. Mr. Woody was a member of Sugar Hill Baptist
Church, and had lived in Union County for the past 16 years. He was preceded in death by is wife, Willa
Mae Meers Woody.
Surviving
are his daughter, Bertha Lillian Sieg, of Detroit, Michigan; daughter,
Kathryn
Woody of Wyandotte, Michigan; son, Larry Woody, of Rome, GA; daughter,
Helen
Portia Berner, of Roscommon, Michigan; son, Grayling Woody, of
Wyandotte,
Michigan; sisters, Ava Watkins and Clora Woody, both of Suches, GA; 18
grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, October 17, 1998 at 2
p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev.
Jay
Bright officiating. Special music was
presented
by The Faith Singers. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Elvin and Evan Woody, Dennis Sieg,
John
Berner, Jason Lee, and Robert Schmandt.
Interment was in the Cooper’s Creek Cemetery.

Mrs.
Nellie Griggs, age 85, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday,
October
13, 1998 in Union County, Georgia.
Mrs. Griggs
was born Friday, November 8, 1912, a daughter of the late Bob and Annie
Rogers
Henderson, Union County, Georgia. She
was a lifelong resident of this area and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Griggs was a member of Ebenezer Baptist
Church. Mrs. Griggs was preceded in
death by her husband, Hershel Griggs, in 1981.
Surviving are
her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Christine Griggs, of
Blairsville; and
son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Lois Griggs, also of Blairsville; a
great
granddaughter, Christy Foster, also survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, October 15, 1998 at 2
p.m. from Ebenezer Baptist Church, with Rev. Loys Waters and Rev.
Horace Potts officiating. Special music
was presented by The Ebenezer
Church Choir. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Lake Stroud, C.D. Griggs, Junior Griggs, Steve
Worley,
Hubert Owenby, and Johnny Griggs.
Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs.
Sandi Kay Newman Carroll, age 31, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away
Tuesday,
October 13, 1998, in Union County, Georgia, from injuries which she
sustained
in an automobile accident.
Mrs.
Carroll was born on Wednesday, June 28, 19967, in Baltimore, Maryland,
a
daughter of Sandi Effner Newman and the late Preston Newman. She was employed as a clerk with a retail
automobile parts dealer. She had lived
in the Blairsville area for the past 20 years, and attended the House
of Prayer
Church.
Surviving are
her husband, Jeffrey Carroll, of Blairsville; her mother, Sandi Parris,
of
Marietta, GA; her brother, Preston Newman, also ff Marietta; many
friends and other
relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, October 16, 1998 at 11
a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Jerry
Helton officiating. Special music was
presented by Louis and
Betty Henderson. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Clyde Carroll, Jr., Junior Carroll, David
Carroll, Wess
Carroll, Michael Carroll, Tim Kirtly. Serving as honorary escort to the family was
Ralph Carroll. Interment was in
Dillard’s Chapel Cemetery.
