mr. lenord b. fields

 

Mr. Lenord B. Fields, age 73, of Byers Creek Road, Young Harris, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2002 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Fields was born on December 20, 1928 in Union County, the son of the late Charlie Fields and the late Lula Ross Fields.  Mr. Fields was the owner of the Cane Creek Grocery and the Cane Creek Auction for over thirty years.  He was a member of the Stephens Masonic Lodge #414, F&AM.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Fields are his ex-wife, Christine Matheson Fields of Young Harris; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Ronnie and Vickie Fields of Young Harris, randy and Lisa Fields of Blue Ridge, Richard and Mary Ann Fields of Hayesville; one brother, Atle Fields; two sisters, Cora Mull and Eloise Johnson, all of Gastonia, NC; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at 2 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Special music was presented by the Caylor Family.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Eddie Grant, R.L. Nichols, Richard Nichols, Clinton Moore, Jimmy Fields and Zach White.  Interment followed in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. richard larry teague

 

Mr. Richard Larry Teague, age 56, of S. Mauney Road, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2002 in the Union general Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Teague was born on March 15, 1946 in Union County, the son of the late Gordon Teague and the late Della Adams Teague.  Mr. Teague was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was of the Baptist faith

Surviving Mr. Teague are one son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Jennifer Teague of Blairsville; four sisters and three brother-in-law, Lorena and Dan Truelove of Blairsville, Ethel and Yeona Chambers of Blairsville, Janie and Harvey Deaver of Blairsville, Mary Sue Hughes of Blairsville; one granddaughter, Kameron Teague of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 11 am from the Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Randy Hughes officiating.  Special music was presented by Randy and Tammy Hughes.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Glen Henderson, Dwayne Campbell, Jim Hunger, Tommy Adams, Michael Shonk and Steve Brown.  Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

larry paul wright

 

October 16, 2002, Mr. Larry Paul Wright, 69, of Blairsville, Georgia arose to be with our Lord, carried on the wings of angels from Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia after 16 days in ICU following radical surgery.

Larry Paul and his loving wife of 34 years, Lois Ann McQuaid, retired from Florida to make their Blairsville “cabin in the woods” home in December of 1999 and have made many dear friends here, neighbors, gym mates, quilting husbands and, newly church friends.  He volunteered at Vogel State Park every spring and was a member of the gym, where he went faithfully.

He is a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all.  His success can be measured by his surviving loved one; his wife, Lois Ann, his daughters, Tami Sue of Jacksonville, FL and Dawn Sherri of Angelton, TX; his sons Kim Curtis of Norwalk, CT and Jamie Noah of Gainesville, FL; daughter-in-law, Kristina and Margo; grandchildren, Adam Paul, Matthew Noah, Terry Lee II, Jacqueline Ann, Troy and Chad; brothers and sisters, George and Jean Wright of Blairsville, GA and family, Beverly Reedy of Dalton and sons, Lee and Robert Fleshman of Knoxville, TN and family, Christopher and Phyllis Wright and daughters of Hialeah, FL.

Larry was born on November 13, 1932 in the city of Camden, Camden County, New Jersey, son of the late Emma and George Wright.  Larry was preceded to heaven by his son, Terry Lee and brother-in-law, Howard Reedy.

Larry P. Wright served from March 1, 1949 to November 26, 1953 with the United States Army, 24th Infantry Division, 21st Infantry Regiment.  Two years of that being in Korea.  Rising to the rank of Staff-Sergeant, Larry received the Bronze Star, many citation ribbons and recently a Honorary Letter of Appreciation and medal from the Korean President, Kim Dae-Jung.

Larry worked as a policeman in Philadelphia, PA then for Western Electric/Southern Bell for 25 years in Miami, West Palm Beach and Jacksonville, Florida.

Pastor Charles L. Houska presented a memorial services for Larry on Monday, October 21, 2002, at the All Saints Lutheran Church four miles east of Blairsville on Highway 76.

miss rena kitchens

 

Miss Rena Kitchens, age 93, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2002 in Gold City Community Living Center in Dahlonega, Georgia.

Miss Kitchens was a native of Sumter County, Georgia, born on Sunday, December 27, 1908 to her parents, Walley and Edith Avery Kitchens.  She had lived in Blairsville since 1982, and had been a nurse, specializing in home care.

Survivors include her sister, Mary K. Brown, of Blairsville; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

mr. lynwood reed dowdy

 

Mr. Lynwood Reed Dowdy, age 83, passed away at his home on Friday, October 18, 2002 after an extended illness.  Mr. Dowdy was born Monday, May 5, 1919 in Jackson County, Georgia, the son of the late Thomas Reed and Elizabeth Park Dowdy.  He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Anne Richey Dowdy; a twin brother, Thomas Letus “Tom” Dowdy; and two other brothers, Harold Park Dowdy and James Milton “Bit” Dowdy.

Survivos include son, Mr. Thomas Lynwood “Tom” Dowdy of Blairsville; daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Anne Bowling of Hiawassee, Georgia; granddaughter, Miss Heather Dawn Miller of Knoxville, Tennessee; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Elizabeth Kiser and her husband, Mr. Earl T. Kiser of Ft. Myers, Florida; sister-in-law, Mrs. Jerry Dowdy of Ft. Myers; brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Joyce Jordan of Blairsville; and many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Mr. Dowdy was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the Signal Corps and stationed in Puerto Rico until the war was over.  Mr. Dowdy was a retired electrician and a member of I.B.E.W., Local 613, of Atlanta.  After retiring, he and Mrs. Dowdy moved to the Blairsville area.

Memorials services are planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please make donations to Georgia Mountain Hospice, Inc., 70 Caring Way, P.O. Box 580, Jasper, GA 30153.  their goal is to build a home to house and care for the terminally ill.
