            Mrs. Barbara Ann Manderson, age 76, of Golden Ridge Rd., Blairsville passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 at Union General Hospital. She was born November 23, 1936 in Tucker, GA to the late Hugh and Georgia Weathers Singleton. She move here 10 years ago from Loganville, GA. Mrs. Manderson was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and loved reading and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Manderson in 1992. Mrs. Manderson was of the Baptist Faith.

            Survivors include daughters: Wanda Gibson of Blairsville, GA, Becky and Douglas Hogan of New Orleans, LA; brother, Kenneth and Ava Singleton of Marietta, GA; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 5 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Nickerson officiating. The family received friends at the funeral Saturday from 4 until 5 p.m.

elden clyde womacks

 

            Mr. Elden Clyde Womacks, age 90, of Everetts View, Blairsville passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013 following a short term illness. He was born July 14, 1923 in Rockwell City, IA to the late Chester Clyde and Alice Inez (Mills) Womacks. He graduated Rinard High School, Rinard IA, Class of 1941. Elden served in the US Army during WWII from 1943 – 1946. He moved to Miramar, FL in 1958 and worked for many years as a distributor in the Fort Lauderdale area for Murray Biscuit Company where many fondly called him the “Cookie Man”. Elden moved to Blairsville in 2011 with his son and daughter-in-law. Elden will always be remembered for his sense of humor which he shared with everyone he met. Elden and family were of the Christian Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Louise Asmus Womacks in 2006; brothers: Thomas Wendel Womacks and Glenn Allen Womacks; sisters: Opal Fern Barnett and Elsie Louise Sell.

            Survivors include his son, David C. Womacks and his wife Judy Ann Womacks of Blairsville, GA; granddaughters: Catherine Rivera and her husband, William Rivera of Davie, FL, Kimberly Genovese and her husband, James Genovese of Fort Lauderdale, FL; great granddaughters: Josie Rivera and Shelby Rivera of Davie, FL, Mia Genovese and Gianna Genovese of Fort Lauderdale, FL; great-great grandson, William Rivera, sister, Leora Watts of Texas, niece, Betty Stringer of Iowa, nephews, Ron Watts of Washington and Ralph Watts of New Mexico.

            Services will be held in Florida at a later date. In lieu of flowers make memorial donations to the Lions Club for glasses.

lynda hill sckerl

 

            Ms. Lynda Hill Sckerl, age 70, of Dettman Lane, Blairsville passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013 in Atlanta, GA following injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born August 17, 1943 in Atlanta to the late Pope Strickland Hill, Jr. and the late Willa Mae Miller Hill. She moved here 4 years ago from Decatur, GA. Ms. Sckerl worked for 26 years with the Georgia Association of Realtors. She was “the voice of GAR”. Live, Love and Laugh… described Lynda perfectly!  A loving mother, a compassionate grandmother and a loyal friend to many, her cheerful and outgoing personality drew people in.  A wonderful cook and always hospitable; she received guests at a moments notice.  Lynda enjoyed sitting on her porch here in the mountains and going to the movies.  She had fun wherever she was.

Survivors include children, Lynn and Bryan Drost of Blairsville, GA and Bert Sckerl of Portland, OR; grandchildren: Alex and Christopher Drost and Loren Sckerl.

            Memorial services were held Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Richard Rivera officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Neighbors Hand, a local ministry where Lynda volunteered.  The address is 307 C Cleveland Street, Blairsville, GA 30512

michael watson mosley

 

            Mr. Michael Watson Mosley, age 47 of Cleveland, GA, formerly of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.  Mr. Mosley was born March 29, 1966 in Gainesville, GA, to Katherine Patterson Mosley and the late Bill Mosley. He was a self-employed utility contractor and was a member of Tesnatee Baptist Church.

            Surviving family members include his wife, Dianne Hemphill Mosley; sons, Mitch Mosley; Matthew (Mattmo) Mosley; daughter, Michaela Mosley, all of Cleveland, GA; mother, Katherine Mosley, Blairsville; brother, Curtis Mosley, Epworth, GA; sister, Debbie Womack, Souderton, PA.

            Funeral services for Mike were held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Chattahoochee Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Tesnatee Baptist Church Cemetery.

millicent turner griffith

 

            Mrs. Millicent Turner Griffith, of Blairsville and formerly of Hogansville, died Saturday, October 12, 2013.

            The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 13, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Willow Heim officiated and interment was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. 

            Mrs. Griffith was born April 16, 1926, in Camilla, daughter of the late Lester Robert Turner and Madge Adams Turner. She received a bachelor's degree from Georgia State College for Women and a master's degree from LaGrange College, and retired as admissions office manager for LaGrange College. She was a longtime member of the Green Bough Garden Club, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hogansville, where she had served in the choir, had served as a church organist, and was active in the Annie Pearl Darden Circle.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hubbard Griffith, and is survived by her son, Sandy Griffith and his wife, Gayle of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Jeannie Griffith Rich and her husband, Presley Rich of Blairsville, and Libby Griffith of LaGrange; grandchildren, Alex Rich and his fiancée, Cindy Riehl of Huntsville, AL, Katie Franklin and her husband, David of Blairsville; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Franklin and Jackson Franklin.

            Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 333, Hogansville, GA 30230.

johnny wimpey

 

            Mr. Johnny Wimpey, age 91 of Blairsville, GA passed away on October 16, 2013 following an extended illness. He was the last of seventeen children born to his family to pass away. He was born to the late Andrew and Ceanie (Duckworth) Wimpey on March 19, 1922 in Blairsville, GA. He was preceded in death by a grandson, John Wimpey Cagle.

            He is survived by his wife, Louise Wimpey, of Blairsville, GA; two sons, Johnny L. Wimpey, of Lawrenceville, GA and Michael Garrett, of Doraville, GA; three grandchildren, Andrew Cagle, Mark Garrett and  Todd Garrett; one great grandchild, Jessica Garrett; one great-great grandchild,Brooklyn Saigekahn.

            Funeral services were held Friday, October 18, 2013 at 1 PM from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Brinkworth officiating. Pallbearers were: Andrew Cagle, Wayne Kilgore, Robert Williams, Todd Garrett, Mark Garrett and Mark Saigekahn. Interment was in Old UnionBaptist Church cemetery.
