HUBERT WOODROW SOUTHER & ELIZABETH ANNE SOUTHER

 

Hubert Woodrow Souther, age 82, born in Blairsville, GA on November 30, 1918 and Elizabeth Anne Souther, age 79, born in Champaign, Illinois on September 23, 1921, both passed away in La Habra Heights, CA on September 17, 2001.

Surviving are daughters Colette Kingsley and Allison Renck; grandchildren, Michael Kingsley, Julie Kingsley, Shannon Kingsley, Charlene Renck, and Dustin Renck.

Services were held at Rose Hill Memorial Park at 3888 S. Workman Mill Road on September 26, 2001.  Graveside services were attended by family only at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, CA and grave dedication was given by Bishop Lukens.

MRS. GLADYS “BABE” DUFFE

 

Mrs. Gladys “Babe” Duffe, age 67, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 21, 2001 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Duffe was born in Washington, DC on Wednesday, February 28, 1934, a daughter of the late George Martin Downs and Jane Elizabeth Guy Downs.  She was a homemaker and had lived in the Blairsville area for the past eight years.  Mrs. Duffe had previously lived in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry, of Blairsville; three daughters, Linda Marie Rivkin, of Blairsville, Susan Ann Howard, of Chatham, Illinois, and Annie Duffe Powell, of Blairsville; three brothers, Jimmy Downs of North Carolina, Eddie Downs of California, and George Downs of Kentucky; thirteen grandchildren also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at 11 am from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with pastor James Brock officiating.  Special music was presented by Mike Kleczka and Sandy Brock.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: jack Powell, bob Howard, Brad Perkins, Mike Williams, Barry Crump, and Gary McDonald.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

MR. DERRICK NATHANIEL WHITMORE

 

Mr. Derrick Nathaniel Whitmore, age 21, of Andrea Morrow Road, Murphy, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2001 in the Union General Hospital following injuries received in an automobile accident.  Derrick was born on April 6, 1980 in Union County, the son of Ray James Whitmore and Genevieve Henderson Whitmore.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School System where he graduated in 1998.  Derrick was a member of the Many Forks Baptist Church.  He was employed at Mountain Building supply of Blairsville at the time of his death.

Surviving Derrick are his loving parents, Ray and Genevieve Whitmore of Murphy; paternal grandparents, Jack and Mabel Whitmore; maternal grandparents, Loyd and Bernice Henderson; a very special friend, Becky Sherman; lots of aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 22, 2001 at 2 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Evan Hughes and the Rev. Randolph Jones officiating.  Special music was presented by Leigha Jones and Troy and Linda Phillips.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Justin Davenport, Jonathan Davenport, Kevin Dockery, Corey Henderson, Chris Davenport, Aaron Beavers, Chad Gibson, Jonathan Cook and Woody Adams.  Interment followed in the Whitmore Family Cemetery.

MR. HENRY JOSEPH MUND

 

Mr. Henry Joseph Mund, age 88, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2001, in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mr. Mund was born in Hartford County, Connecticut, on Tuesday, January l7, 1913, a son of the late Joseph Mund and Anna Geiger Mund.  His occupation was a carpenter.  Mr. Mund and his wife moved to the Blairsville area in 1988, from Marlborough, CT.  His wife, Mrs. Violet Mund, passed away in 1999, and a son, William, passed away in 1995.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law: DeAnna and Jim Arthur, of Blairsville; daughter: Dolores Donovan of East Haddam, CT; two sisters: Marion Keefe, of Vermont and Anne Hess, of Wethersfield, CT; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at 2 p.m. from Union memory Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Grandsons served as pallbearers.

MR. ROBERT H. BREEDLOVE

 

Mr. Robert H. Breedlove, age 73, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2001, in Copper Basin Hospital in Copperhill, TN.

Mr. Breedlove was born in Fannin County, GA, on Sunday, May 6, 1928, a son of the late Robert Homer Breedlove, Sr., and Maude Patterson Breedlove.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines Corps, having served in The Korean War.  Mr. Breedlove had lived most of his life in this area, and had been employed at the Tennessee Copper Company.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his sons: Kenny Breedlove, of Blue Ridge, GA, James R. Breedlove, of Loganville, GA. Dwayne Breedlove of McCaysville, GA, and John Breedlove, of Blairsville, GA; two brothers: William Jewell Breedlove, of Blairsville, and Charles Edward Breedlove, also of Blairsville; five grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 22, 2001, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Marvin Poole, and Rev. Scott Baugh officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Fritz Baugh, Danny Blair, Jimmy Russell, Dough Breedlove, Don Denny, and Chip Kaylor.  Interment was in the family cemetery.

MR. LAWRENCE (LARRY) VINCENT KOLES

 

Mr. Lawrence (better known as Larry) Koles, age 72, of Blairsville, formerly of Hayesville, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2001 in his home following an extended illness. Mr. Koles was born on Aug. 10, 1929 in Bloomville, N.J., the son of the late Joseph P. Koles and the late Marie Hake Koles.  He was retired from the Champion Spark Plug Co. of Toledo, OH.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.  Mr. Koles was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Koles are his loving wife of forty seven years, Lucille Voorhee Koles of Blairsville; two daughters Ann Marie Koles of Waldorf, MD, and Helen Lucille Pope of Waterville, OH; one son, Lawrence Alan Koles of Snellville, GA; two brothers: Joseph Koles of District Heights, MD, and Richard (Dick) Koles of N.J.; six grandchildren: Heather Koles, Crystal Koles, Alex Pope, Ben Pope, Jessica Waltz, and James Waltz; two great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2001, at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in Mr. Koles Memory.
