david helm miller holihan

 

David Helm Miller Holihan, age 70, of Bradenton, FL and Blairsville, GA lost his war against cancer on October 14, 2007.  After serving the Navy for 9 years he moved to Florida in 1972.  He subsequently joined City of St. Petersburg Sanitation Department and rose to be its Director in 1980.  He served in this position until his retirement in 1998.  A devoted catholic and avid University of Michigan fan, his prayers and cheers will be missed in Ann Arbor.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy; sisters Linda Bohan and Louise Henning; sons David Helm Miller Holihan, Jr., Michael Walls of O’Brien Holihan, and daughter Mary Holihan Kidd, as well as six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  A memorial service is scheduled for November 3, 2007, at 9:30 a.m.  The service will be held at St. Jude’s Catholic Church of 3930 17th St., Sarasota, FL.  In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34238.

michael eugene stephens

 

Mr. Michael Eugene Stephens, age 45, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2007 at his home.  Michael was born Monday, November 6, 1961 in Fulton County, GA, a son of Alfred Stephens and Pauline Butts Stephens.  Michael had been living in Blairsville since 1974, moving here from Doraville, GA.  He was a member of NEW Hope Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Lynn Garrett Stephens; parents: Alfred and Pauline Butts Stephens; daughter and son-in-law Brandy and Kevin Mullins; grandchildren: Keltsey, Keyla, Keyton, and Kevin Mullins, all of Blairsville.  Many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the New Hope Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon McDonald officiating.  Music was provided by Terry Hooper, Alice McDonald, and Terry Sosebee.  Interment followed in new Hope Fellowship Church Cemetery on Cobb Mountain Road.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Ronnie Coker, Bobby Dillinger, John Barrett, Craig Stephens, Doug Garrett, Terry Sosebee, Tim Ramsey.  Honorary pallbearers included the following gentlemen: Richard Coker and Alan Coker.  The family received friends at New Hope Fellowship Baptist Church from 6-9, Friday, October 19.

Flowers were accepted; however, if you wish to make a memorial contribution, the family suggests that donations may be made to New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.

henry edwin fensterle, jr.

 

Mr. Henry Edwin Fensterle, Jr., age 88, of Leslie Drive, Blairsville passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Fensterle was born on December 4, 1919 in Telford, PA, the son of the late Henry E. Fensterle, Sr. and the late Esther Mille.  He retired in 1975 from the Dade County Fire Dept. as Assistant Chief.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army of WWII.  He was a member of Oleeta Lodge #145 F&AM also a Past Commander of Mahi Shrine Temple & Legion of honor Member, a member of Local 1403 Dade County Firefighters Union.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Lendell Libby Fensterle in 2004.  Mr. Fensterle was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving Mr. Fensterle are one daughter, Heida McGillis of Blairsville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kurt Fensterle of Warne, NC, Erick and Nena Fensterle of Blairsville; six grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with interment following in the United Trinity Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Mr. Fensterle’s memory.

richard leonard glazier, sr.

 

Mr. Richard Leonard Glazier, Sr., age 74, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, October 15, 2007 at his home.  Mr. Glazier was born in Pinellas County, FL, on Monday, August 6, 1933, a son of the late Mack Glazier and Florence Strickland Glazier.  Richard graduated from St. Petersburg High School, and attended St. Petersburg Junior College.  IN Joliet, IL, he successfully completed the Laundry Operation and Management Courses at the American Institute of laundering in 1955.  Richard joined Soft Water Laundry, Inc. in August 1952, and became General Manager in 1965 and then, President in 1970.  Mr. Glazier was Past President and Director of the Great St. Petersburg Cleaners and Launderers Association; past President and Chairman of Board of Florida Institute of laundering and Cleaning; Past director of Southeastern Linen Supply association; Past Director of Goodwill Industries; and Past Director of St. Petersburg Rotary club.  Richard had been active in the St. Petersburg area Chamber of Commerce; Commerce Club of Pinellas County; American Institute of laundering; National Institute of Dry cleaning; Masonic Lodge #228; and was a life member of The National Rifle association.  Mr. Glazier had been a member of the Army national Guard.  Before retiring to Blairsville, Richard was an active member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, where he held many leadership positions.  Richard was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Blairsville, and had served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.  Besides his parents, he had been preceded in death by a brother, Mack Hiram glazier.

Surviving family members include his loving wife of 55 years, Jean Rich Glazier, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Miller of Millington, TN; son, Richard Glazier, Jr. of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen James and Lisa Glazier of Arvada, CO; eight grandsons: Eric Scott Glazier, Andrew James Miller, Chad Michael Glazier, Christopher Reid Miller, Matthew James Glazier, Nathaniel Marc Glazier, Jonathan Luke Glazier, and Joshua David Glazier; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Dr. Fred Lodge and Rev. Danny Parris officiating.  Burial was in Union memory Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation with the family at the funeral home was on Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.  If you wish, you may send memorial contributions to The Gideons International, P.O. ruby c. hutchings

 

Mrs. Ruby C. Hutchings, age 81, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Ft. Pierce, FL, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2007.  Mrs. Hutchings was a graduate of Florida State College for Women and Florida State University.  In Florida, she had been a member of United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches in West Palm; and Lakewood Park United Methodist Church in Ft. Pierce.  Mrs. Hutchings had been a teacher in pubic schools.  She had lived in Blairsville for the past 12 years, and was a member of Hiawassee United Methodist Church.  Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers.

Survivors include: husband, Lloyd H. Hutchings; daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Noble Rhinesmith; step-son and his wife Hugh and Gayla Hutchings; step-son, Gene Hutchings; sister, Caroline Richbourg; granddaughter, Ruby Frascatore; step-granddaughters, Kristy Hutchings and Sarah Hutchings; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 19, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Hiawassee United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Blair and Rev. Mike Cloyd officiating.  Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral service.  Burial followed in Sparta Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to Hiawassee United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Methodist Children’s Home.

linda june marchionnl

 

Mrs. Linda June Marchionni, age 51, of Pat Colwell Rd., Blairsville and also Dade County, FL passed away on Friday, October 19, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Marchionni was born on October 20, 1955 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of the late Ray Curnes and the late Goldie Spurlock Curnes.  She was currently employed as the Manager with the Dade County Tax Collectors Office.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Marchionni.  Mrs. Marchionni was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Marchionni are one sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Jim Cutler of Blairsville; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Don and Gretchen Curnes of Kerrville, TX, Jim and Susan Curnes of Wheeling, WV, Paul and Debbie Curnes of martins Ferry, OH, Carlos Curnes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, dear friend Douglas Eby and his family, the Dade County Government family and many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  IN lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Shining Light Baptist Church or United Hospice in Mrs. Marchionni’s memory.
