rev. bobby stroud

 

Rev. Bobby Stroud, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, October 16, 2000 at his home.

Rev. Stroud was born in clay County, North Carolina, on Saturday, October 16, 1937, a son of the late Ernest Stroud and Iowa Ledford Stroud.He had been living in this area since 1966, coming here from Canton, Georgia.Rev. Stroud served as a Pastor locally, having served at Owltown Church of God for 14 years.He has also pastured Murphy Church of God and the Cleveland Church of God.

Surviving are his wife, Genevieve Sneed Stroud, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law; Dwayne and Tami Stroud, Terry and Kim Stroud, and Michael and Triska Stroud, all of Blairsville; daughter, Tammy Breedlove, of Blairsville; three brothers, Frank, Charlie, and Homer Stroud, all of Hayesville, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at 2 p.m. from Owltown Church of God, with Rev. Michael Anderson, Rev. Clark Moss, and Rev. Ken Kremblas officiated.Special music was presented by Ella Battle, Donald Teague, and Billy Harkins.The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Robbie Davis, David Seabolt, Arnold Murphy Joseph Anderson, Donald Teague, and Chad Kremblas.Interment was in Owltown Church of God Cemetery.

MRS. james daniel abbott

 

Mrs. James D. Abbott, age 84, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2000, following an extended illness.Mr. Abbott was born in Virginia, the son of the late Daniel and Isabelle Frow Abbott.Mr. Abbott was a retired Electrician.He was a Navy veteran of WWII, a member of the Lions Club, V.F.W., and the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife: Ellen Abbott of the home; one daughter, Linda Turcott of London, Ontario Canada; one son, Dana John Abbott of Katy, TX, and two grandchildren.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, October 25, 2000 at 2 pm from the Coosa United Methodist Church.Military Honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.Banister Funeral Home, Inc. of Hiawassee, GA in charge of arrangements.

MRS. shelby dyer

 

Mrs. Shelby Dyer, age 75, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2000 in St. Josephís Hospital in Atlanta.

Mrs. Dyer was born in Union County, Georgia, on Sunday February 8, 1925, a daughter of the late Joseph Paul Nix and Emma Ellen Davis Nix.She was a homemaker and was a lifelong resident of this area.She was a member of Pinetop Baptist Church.Mrs. Dyer had been preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Nathan Dyer, in 1985.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-laws; Muriel and Royce Hughes, of Murphy, North Carolina, and Kathy and Calvin Hood, of Blairsville; son and daughters-in-law, Doug and Carolyn Dyer, Dayton and Linda Dyer, and Tony and Andrea Dyer, all of Blairsville; 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 20, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Horace Henry Loggins, and Rev. Tony Robertson officiating.Special music was presented by Mrs. Martha Davenport.The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:Sid Dyer, Stacy Dyer, Shawn Dyer, Matt Dyer, Tony and Chris Dyer, Seth Dyer, Steven Hughes, and Brandon Hood.Interment was in Choestoe Cemetery.

heather lenore lankford carpenter

 

Heather Lenore Lankford Carpenter, 25, of Blairsville, GA died Wednesday, October 18,2000.A native of Murphy, she had lived in Blairsville for the past 16 years.She was the daughter of Karen Hughes Lankford Hulfish of Blairsville and the late Jim Lankford and the step-daughter of Charlie Hulfish.She was a 1993 graduate of union County High School.She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.She was also a loving mother.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Don H. Hughes and her paternal grandparents, Loyd and Ann Lankford.

Surviving, in addition to her mother and step-father, are her daughter, Hannah Jackalin Carpenter of Blairsville; a son, Jackson Lane Carpenter of Blairsville; a brother, Matthew James Lankford of Blairsville; and the maternal grandmother, Lenore Hughes Totherow and the maternal step-grandfather M.L. Totherow both of Murphy.

Funeral services at 11 am Saturday, October 21, in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Revs. Mike Totherow and Ted Hughes officiating.Burial in Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery.Pallbearers:Scotty Brown, Jim Totherow, Teddy Hughes, Darren Jones, Jeremy Totherow and James Dye.

The family requests memorials be made to the Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Johnny Davis 5233 hanging Dog Road, Murphy, NC 28906.

MR. garnett lee owenby

 

Mr. Garnett Lee Owenby, age 95, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, October 20, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Owenby was born in Union County, Georgia, on Tuesday, October 25, 1904, a son of the late Horace Owenby and Mary Ellen Owenby.He was retired from the State of Georgia highway department.Mr. Owenby had been a lifelong resident of this area.He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; a daughter, Mildred Butt; and two sons, Bill and Audie Owenby.

Surviving are four daughters: Dorothy Mashburn, of Gainesville, GA; Melva Lynn Ledford, and Brenda Wallace, both of Blairsville; and Shirley Brown, of Fairmont, GA; five sons: Dillard Owenby and Ray Owenby, both of Otisville, Michigan; J.D. Owenby, and Weldon Owenby, of Blairsville and Jimmy Owenby, of Hiawassee, Georgia; 30 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren also survive, along with many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 23, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Leon Henderson, and Rev. R.L. Martin officiated.Special music was presented by Doris Heffner, Willa Ree Davenport and Ned Wilcoxin.Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
