Avis
Marie Shaw, 32, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Monday, October 16, 1995 in Northeast Georgia
Medical
Center in Gainesville, Georgia, following a brief period of illness. Avis Marie was born in Union County, Georgia,
on November 18, 1962, and was a lifelong
resident of
this area. She was a dental
hygienist. Ms. Shaw was a member of
First United Methodist Church of Union County.
Her Paternal Grandparents, Herman Reed Shaw, and Margaret Jolly
Shaw,
and her Maternal Grandfather Aaron D. Dean, preceded her in death.
Surviving is her son, Christian
McClellan Edwards, of the home; her parents, Carlton and Avis Dean
Shaw, of
Blairsville; Sister, Carla Jane Shaw, of Duluth, Ga; Maternal
Grandmother,
Florence O’Kelley Dean, also of Duluth; Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins, and
a host
of friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Thursday,
October 19, 1995 at 2:00 from First United Methodist Church of Union
County
with Dr. Bob Darby officiating. Burial
was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Avis Marie’s cousins served as pallbearers: Keith Elkins, James
Elkins,
Alan Dean, Patrick Dean, Charles Langley, Jr. and Ricky Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully
requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church
Building Fund,
859 Hwy. 515, Blairsville, Ga. 30512; or the Blairsville Safe House; or
to a
Trust Fund for Christian M. Edwards, c/o Union County Bank in
Blairsville.

Pearl
Duckworth Dyer, 93, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Thursday, October 5, 1995 in Newnan Hospital in
Newnan,
Georgia. Mrs. Dyer was born in Union
County, Georgia, on May 10, 1902, a daughter of the late John Duckworth
and
Laura Woods Duckworth. She was a
lifelong resident of this area and a member of Old Liberty Baptist
Church. Mrs. Dyer was preceded in death by
a
daughter, Tannie Dyer Collins, and two sons, Clyde Dyer and Elbert
Dyer, and
her husband, Carter Dyer.
Surviving are daughter and
son-in-law, Maudie and Clifford Shuler, of Cleveland, Georgia; son and
daughter-in-law, James and Lillian Dyer of Newnan Georgia; daughter and
son-in-law Ruby Nell and Eugene Cook, of Andrews, NC; son and
daughter-in-law
Herbert and Anita Dyer, of Blairsville; sister, Verdie Ensley, of
Blairsville;
fifteen grand-children, twenty great grand-children and three
great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
October 7, 1995 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of the Funeral Home with
Rev. Jerry
Young and Rev. Tom Smith officiating.
Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young. Grandsons served as pallbearers, with
interment in Pinetop Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs.
Connie Reece Garrett, 41, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 1995 at her
home, following
an extended illness.
Connie was born in Towns County, Georgia,
on September 21, 1954, a daughter of Lorena Duckworth Reece and the
late Thomas
James Reece. She was a nurse and a
lifelong resident of this area. Connie
attended Zebulon Baptist Church and had coached Girl’s Recreation
Basketball. Mrs. Garrett was preceded in
death by her father. Mr. T. J. Reece, and a
brother, Tommy
Reece.
Surviving are her husband Stanley
Garrett, of the home; two sons, Caleb and Corey Garrett of the home;
her mother,
Lorena Duckworth Reece, of Blairsville; a sister, June Galloway, of
Gastonia,
North Carolina; a brother, Terry Reece, of Blairsville; several nieces
and
nephews and many friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
October 21, 1995 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of the funeral home with
Rev. Jerry
Helton and Rev. Hughes Chatham officiating.
Special music was presented by Kim Thomas and Scott Lance. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: David Miller, David Chatham, Kem Stephens, Mike Stephens,
Steven
Reece, and Joel Reece. Interment was in
Old Choestoe Cemetery.
