Janelle
Canington
Maxwell, 81, entered into rest on October 17, 2011.
Born at Lumpkin, GA, she was the second daughter of William Joseph and
Belle
Goodwin Canington. In addition to her
parents she was predeceased by her husband, George C. Maxwell, her
step-daughter, Joyce M. Wurst and a grandson, Joel E. Reynolds.
Mrs.
Maxwell was a
musician from an early age, beginning as church pianist at age 11. She continued for over sixty years. Having taught many students to play piano, her
last students were three great-granddaughters. She
received her A.B. and M.Ed Degrees from
Augusta State University.
She loved
her God,
her home, her family and her church, presently being a member at First
Baptist
of Blairsville, enjoying the Charity Class. She
loved to crochet, embroider, and other
handwork. One of her other hobbies was
being an avid Braves and Georgia Bulldog fan.
Mrs.
Maxwell leaves
survivors of her family, her daughter, Janis H. (Estes) Reynolds, her
son,
Jesse M. (Susan) Hawes, four grandchildren, Jennifer R. (Alan) Sanders,
Jason
P. (Rhonda) Reynolds, Joseph H. (Sheri) Hawes and Justin B. (Jennifer)
Hawes, a
daughter-in-law, Rosalyn B. Guillebeau; three step-grandchildren,
Charles Wurst
III, Lisa W. Harvey and Randall George Wurst; eight great
grandchildren,
Catherine, Claire, Caleb and Caroline Sanders, Sara and Spence Hawes
and Tanner
and Caden Reynolds; three sisters, Madge C. Rutledge, Joan C. Warren,
Sue C.
Hoyle; brother-in-law, Bert Warren; one niece; two nephews; 8
step-great
grandchildren, Morgan, McKenzie, Clara, George, Emma, Sophie, Jack
Wurst and
Charlie Harvey; a host of other relatives and special friends,
including
Michelle Wilson and Traci Rogers.
Funeral
services were
Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 12 PM with Rev. Gene Brooks officiating,
and
Mickey Norman presenting the eulogy. Close
friends Marsha Brown and JoAnn Adkins had charge of the music. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The
family received
friends Wednesday at the funeral home from 10 AM until service time.

Mr.
Rex
Carlton Ballew, age 75, of Gainesville Hwy, Blairsville passed away
Sunday,
October 16, 2011 in Heritage Health Care in Blue Ridge. Rex
was born January 6, 1936 in Union County a
son of the late James Coleman Ballew and Winnie Juanita Duckworth
Ballew. He graduated from Union County
High School,
was a Korean War Veteran and served in the U S Marine Corps and
Navy. Rex received his law
enforcement certification
in 1978 at the University of Georgia-North East GA Police Academy and
qualified
3rd in his class. He spent most of his life in Law Enforcement and
served as
Chief Deputy to the late Harlan Duncan, also a few years as deputy in
White
County. Rex was a member of Young Cane
Masonic Lodge #597 F&AM. He was
preceded in death by a brother Bill Ballew. He
was of the Catholic Faith.
Surviving Rex are four children, Eleana and Paul Walters of Lake Els,
CA, Dan
Ballew of CA, Bill Ballew of Pinetop, AZ, Nick Ballew of Yucca Valley,
CA, ten
grandchildren and one great grandchild, special friend, Jozene King of
Blairsville, GA.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the
Chapel
of Mountain View Funeral Home with Rev. Benny Nix and Rev. Jimmy Tanner
officiating. Music was by the Kelley
Trio. Pallbearers were Bob Reece, Kevin
Green, Gerald Brown, Ray Myers, Gene Spivia and Ulric Spivia. Interment will follow in Choestoe Baptist
Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday
evening
from 6 until 9 p.m.

Mrs.
Lillian “Lil” Virginia Barry, age 81, of Pine Ridge Road, Blairsville
passed
away Monday, October 17, 2011, at Union General Hospital. Mrs. Barry was born July 25, 1930 in Ozark, AL
to the late John and Evie Campbell Matthews. She
moved here in 1993 from Tampa, FL.
Surviving Mrs. Barry are: her husband, Thomas A. Barry, Jr. of
Blairsville,
daughters, Pamela Berndsen of Tampa, FL, Cynthia S. Barry of Sarasota,
FL, son
Thomas A. III and Debbie Barry of Lisbon Falls, ME, brother, John and
Evelyn
Matthews of Hollywood, FL, grandchildren, Thomas Austin Barry IV and
Stephanie
Moncada, great grandchildren Alex, Michelle and Nathan Moncada.
A service, for family and friends is scheduled for Saturday, October
29th at 11
a.m. at 1420 Pine Ridge Road, Blairsville, GA. In

Mrs.
Frances Marie
Sullivan, age 88, of Blairsville, GA passed away on Thursday, October
20, 2011
at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, GA. Mrs.
Sullivan was born on Saturday, February
3, 1923 in Nashville, TN to the late Andy and the late Hattie Walker
Brummitt. She was a member of First
Baptist Church of
Blairsville. Her first love was the Lord
and she spent many hours studying the Bible. She
enjoyed working in her flowers and she
loved to teach young children about the Bible. She
was preceded in death by her loving
husband of 67 years, Raymond Sullivan; her parents; and three brothers,
Dole,
Marion and Olen Brummitt.
She will
be fondly
remembered and missed by her family: son & daughter-in-Law, Richard
&
Kathy Sullivan; grandson, Benjamin Lenderman; granddaughters, Lisa
Lewis and
Brittany Sholar; great grandson, Saxton Sholar and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Memorial
services were
held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011 from the Chapel of Cochran
Funeral
Home of Blairsville with Dr. Fred Lodge and Rev. Stacy Dyer
officiating. Interment will be held at a
later date in
Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Carl
Richard Mills, Sr., age 66, of
Blairsville, GA formerly of Attalla, AL passed away on Tuesday, October
18,
2011 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, following a
brief
illness. Mr. Mills was born on November
14, 1944 in Cambridge, OH. He was the
son of the late Carl Francis Mills and the late Margaret Elizabeth
mills. Carl used to love to hunt and fish
and write
poems. He was preceded in death by a
brother, Jerry Mills. Carl was a loving
father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving Mr. Mills are his wife
Rhonda Cantwell of Attalla, AL; daughter April Cordova of Blairsville;
step-daughter Tiffany Cantwell of Jacksonville, FL and two sons, Carl
Mills Jr.
of Morristown, TN and Jeff Mills of Connersville, IN; two sisters:
Theresa
Flesher of Blairsville and Betty Mathews of Cambridge, OH; 11
grandchildren:
Carla Hollinger, Corey, Jennifer, Nathan, Ashley, Jeffery, and Stephan
Mills,
Apogee Jones, Joseph, Adam and Eric Cordova; 3 great grandchildren:
Lynsey and
Isaiah Cordova and Kaitlyn Hollinger.
Many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service was held at the
Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, GA in the activity room on
Saturday,
October 22 at 4 p.m.
