Mr.
Charles
Fred Thomas, age 62 of Leisure Time Rd., Blairsville passed away on
Sunday,
October 19, 2008 at his home. Mr. Thomas
was born on July 21, 1946 in Fannin County, the son of William Thomas
and the
late Clarissa Tilson Thomas. Mr. Thomas
had been employed in the timber business for the past several years. He was preceded in death by three brothers,
Jimmy, Troy and Roy Thomas. Mr. Thomas
was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving
Mr. Thomas are one son, Michael Thomas of Blairsville, one daughter and
son-in-law, Sheila and Eddie Thornton of Blairsville, one brother,
Lonnie
Thomas of Ellijay, four sisters, Mazie Dale of Ellijay, “Polly” Marlene
Jones
of Morganton, “Sue” Corine Douchitt of Dalton, “Judy” Diane Thomas of
Morganton, four grandchildren, Courtney, Chantelle, A.J. and Brittany,
many
other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial
service will be held at a later date. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be
made to
help with funeral expenses in memory of Mr. Thomas.

Mrs.
Bonnie Marie Bridges, age 97 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday,
October
20, 2008 at Union General Hospital.
Mrs.
Bridges was born Sunday, may 28, 1911 in Jackson Co., NC, to the late
Hill and
Pearl ward Shuler. A member of Smyrna
Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by 1st husband, Henry Ballard
and 2nd
husband, Esker Bridges.
Survivors
include: daughter, Pearl Brown of Forest City, AK, daughter, Jo Ann
Plott of
Young Harris, GA, step-daughter, Minnie Belle Keys of Young Harris, GA,
step-son, Robert Bridges of Blairsville, GA, three grandchildren, three
great
grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, four step-grandchildren, ten
step-great grandchildren, one step-great great grandchild.
Funeral
services were held Monday, October 27, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.
Music was by Sam Ensley. Pallbearers
were James Bridges, Daryl
Bridges, Darrin Bridges, Junior Bridges, Clarence Collins, Cecil
Hughes. Honorary pallbearer was Ricky
Bridges. Interment was in Old Union
Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms.
Maebell Souther, age 81of King Cove Rd., Blairsville passed away on
Monday,
October 20, 2008 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended
illness. Ms. Souther was born on July 23,
1927 in
Union County, the daughter of the late Luther Souther and the late Dora
Cole
Souther. She was a native and lifelong
resident
of Union County. She loved to cook and
loved to listen to music. Maebell was a
loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She
was preceded in death by her husband,
Ford King who passed away on Sept. 2008, three sisters, Deva Coker,
Myrtle
Hunter and Delphia Collins and by two brothers, Vaughn and Harford
Souther. Ms. Souther was a member of the
Old Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving
Ms. Souther are three sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles King of
Blairsville, Arlen and Barbara King of Blairsville, Lee King of
Blairsville,
one daughter, Mary Jo King of Marietta, two sisters, Ina Nix Clark of
Reidsville, GA, Ella Dyer of Blairsville, eleven grandchildren nine
great
grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside services
were held Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2008 from the Old Liberty Baptist Church
Cemetery
with the Rev. Jerry Young officiating.

Mrs.
Minnie Ruth Gilbert Phillips age 86 of Smyrna Rd., Blairsville passed
away on
Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an
extended illness. Mrs. Phillips was born
on April 23, 1922 in Murphy, NC, the daughter of the late Marion
Gilbert and
the late Ada Griggs Gilbert. She was a
lifelong resident of Union County.
Minnie was a loving mother and sister and will be missed by her
family
and all who knew her. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Lester Phillips in 1986. Mrs.
Phillips was a member of Smyrna Baptist
Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Phillips are one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bud Berrong
of
Hiawassee, one sister and brother-in-law, hazel and Dexter Dockery of
Blairsville, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Willard and Charlene
Gilbert
of Blairsville, Carl Gilbert of Blairsville, many other relatives and
friends
also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the
Ebenezer
Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Gilbert and rev. Dwayne Patterson
officiating. She lay in state at the
church on Thursday
from 1-2 p.m. Special music will be
presented by L.D. and the Happy Pilgrims.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Eddie, Steve and
Teddy
Gilbert, Rex and Stanley Dockery and Patrick Garrett.
Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church
Cemetery. The family met with friends at
the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs.
Valerie Rogers, age 83 of Countyline St., Fostoria, OH, formerly of
Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Toledo
Hospital. Mrs. Rogers was born on March 4,
1925 in
Hayesville, NC, the daughter of the late Caney and Hattie (Miller)
Dockery. She married Fred Rogers on Jan.
4, 946 in
Blairsville. She was preceded in death
by a brother, Glenn Dockery and a sister, Stella Giles.
Mrs. Rogers was a member of the Fostoria
Church of God.
Surviving
Mrs. Rogers are her loving husband, Fred Rogers of Fostoria, OH, two
sons and
one daughter-in-law, James and Beverly Rogers of Holland, Charles
Rogers of
Blairsville, tow daughters and one son-in-law, Vickie and Howard Ohler
of
Findlay, Barbara Baggett of Blairsville, one brother, Virgil Dockery of
Warne,
NC, three sisters, Roxie Owenby and Virdy Anderson both of Blairsville,
Opel
Wooten of Duluth, nine grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, many
other
relatives and friends also survive.

services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 at 1 p.m. from the
Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria, OH.
A graveside service followed on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008 at 2
p.m. from
the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Blairsville with the rev.
Donald
Goodwin officiating. The family met with
friends at the Mountain View Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6-9
p.m. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the
family requests that memorials may be made to the American Diabetes
Association
in memory of Mrs. Rogers.
