MR. dennis hughes

 

Mr. Dennis Hughes, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, December 22, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Hughes was born in Union County, Georgia, on Thursday, January 21, 1927 a son of the late Felton and Roxie Bridges Hughes.  He was a lifelong resident of this area and was a local housing carpenter.  He was a member and deacon of Fairview Baptist church.  He had been preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brooke King; a grandson, Ryan King; a brother, Alfred Hughes; a sister, Edith Rich; and a son, Danny Hughes.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Mae Thomas Hughes of Blairsville; sons and daughter-in-laws, Avery and Louise Hughes, Tony and Julie Hughes, all of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Doug King of Blairsville; and daughter-in-law, Eloise Hughes of Blairsville; two sisters, Louise Adams and Iva Potts, both of Blairsville; eight grandchildren, Kevin Hughes, Derrick Hughes, Scott Hughes, Nicole Hughes, Brandon Hughes, Heather Hughes, Steven King and Brianna King.  Many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 24, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel; of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Tommy Jones, Rev. Ray Potts, and Rev. Wayne Hughes officiating.  Special music was presented by Randy and Tammy Hughes and Jessica Miller.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kevin Hughes, Scott Hughes, Brandon Hughes, Derrick Hughes, Steven King and Darren Hughes.  Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

MR. william lee “bill” colwell

 

Mr. William Lee “Bill” Colwell, age 74, of Adrian, Michigan, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2000, in Lynwood Manor Nursing Home in Adrian following an extended illness.

Mr. Colwell was born in Union County, Georgia on Wednesday, August 11, 1926, a son of the late Ketron Colwell and Mattie Burns Colwell.. He was a veteran of the U.S. Nay and served during World War II.  Mr. Colwell had attended Miracle Life Revival Church in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Surviving are daughter, Sharon Lee Colwell of Ypsilanti; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dennis Deck of Tipton, Michigan; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Robert McLaughlin, of Pinckney, Michigan; and daughter and son-in-law Mary and Michael Garris of Saline, Michigan; two sisters, Ruth and Mary Colwell of Blairsville; nine grandchildren and one granddaughter-in-law; and one great grandchild also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 22, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with pastor James Brock officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Baptist Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Tom Greer, Leon Davenport, Dennis Deck, Bob McLaughlin, Henry Markwalter, and Ray Rogers.  Serving as honorary escort to the family was Rev. Horace Potts.  Interment was in Colwell Cemetery in Blairsville.

john mcconnell douglass

 

John Douglass of Blairsville, Georgia, born April 6, 1911, in Walton, Kansas, and formerly of Cobb County, died Saturday, December 23, 2000.

The Memorial Service will be announced at a later date to be held at the Mountain Presbyterian Church in Blairsville with the Reverend Travis Adams officiating.

Mr. Douglass worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas before coming to Lockheed Aircraft in 1953, from which he retired in 1976.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Shiedeler Douglass, Blairsville, Georgia; three children, Constance Douglass Allen, Charleston, South Carolina, R. Duane Douglass, Cautala, Georgia, and Craig K. Douglass, Acworth, Georgia; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the Mountain Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Blairsville, Georgia.
