Mr. Jeune Woodrow (better known as J.W.) Stroud,
age 88, of the Murphy Hwy., Blairsville, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2001
in Cobb County following an extended illness.
Mr. Stroud was born on

and Melanie Wakefield of VA; one brother, Wayne Stroud of Blairsville; two

Ms. La
Mona Marie Kindig, age 68, of Chapman Ford Road, Blairsville, passed away on
Wednesday, January 3, 2001 in the Union General Hospital following an extended
illness. Ms. Kindig was born on
September 21, 1932 in Fargo, ND, the daughter of the late Leslie Kindig and the
late Irma V. Jones Kindig. She was a
retired professor and coach at the Rio Hondo College in Whittier, CA. She was of the Methodist Faith.
Surviving Ms. Kindig are one sister
and brother-in-law, Jackie and Lamar Franklin of Blairsville; stepfather,
Frank, Mendez Jr. of Buena Park, CA; two nephews, Trey Franklin of Kennesaw and
Scott Franklin of Ellijay; uncle and aunt, Harold and Katherine Jones of
Kenmere, ND; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Service for Ms. Kindig will be held
on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at 3:30 pm from the Kennesaw First United
Methodist Church in Kennesaw, GA with the Rev. Eddie Herring officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose-Meade
Memorial Gardens in Whittier, CA.

Mr. Edwin H. Emerson, Jr., age 71,
of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2001, in Union
General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Emerson was born in Shelby
County, Tennessee, on Friday, October 18, 1929, a son of the late Edwin
Hornibrook Emerson, Sr., and Nora Scruggs Emerson. Mr. Emerson had been living in this area for
10 years, coming here from Palm Beach County, Florida. Mr. Emerson was a graduate of Christian
Brothers High School in Memphis, Tennessee, and of Memphis State University. In 1965, Mr. Emerson was selected for
membership in Who’s Who Young Men of American.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and served in the Korean War. Mr. Emerson was the first elected Mayor of
Palm Springs, Florida. In Palm Beach
County, he had served as Chairman of the Selective Service Board, and an Elder
in Christ Community Church. He had
served as President of The Exchange Club.
IN Blairsville, Mr. Emerson was a member of First United Methodist
Church of Union County. Mr. Emerson was
a retired design engineer for the aerospace industry. He was an avid aviator and photographer. In 1996, a grandchild, Lynn P. Griffith, III,
passed away.
Surviving are his wife, Jane, of the
home; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Ron Scott of Stuart, FL, Elaine and
Robbie Irwin of Lawrenceville, GA, Suzan and Lynn Vergari-Griffith of West Palm
Beach, FL, Mary Jane and Patrick Margo of Warne, NC; son and daughter-in-law,
Thomas and Donna Emerson of Albany, GA; three sisters, Beverly Nash of Memphis,
TN, Patricia Emerson of Blairsville, and Dorothy McCaskill of Kansas City, MO;
two brothers, John Emerson of Mt. Dora, FL and Michael Emerson of Collierville,
TN; 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild also survive along with many
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
January 6, 2001 at 2 pm from First United Methodist Church of Union County with
Rev. Eddie Herring and Rev. Frank Turner officiating. Mr. Emerson was eulogized by Mr. Jim Reynolds. Special music was presented by Meg Scott and
Cindy DeFore. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Ray Lyon, Robert, Spencer, Bud McGonagill, Mark
McCaskill, Michael Emerson, Jr., and Stephen Emerson.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the
family suggests memorials be made to The American Cancer Society, First United
Methodist Church of Union County or Christ Community Church.

John
Douglass of Blairsville, Georgia, born April 6, 1911, in Walton, Kansas, and
formerly of Cobb County, died Saturday, December 23, 2000.
The Memorial Service was held
January 6th, Saturday, at the Mountain Presbyterian Church in Blairsville, with
the Reverend Travis Adams officiating.
Mr. Douglass worked at Beech
Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas, before coming to Lockheed Aircraft in 1953, from
which he retired in 1976.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel
Shideler Douglass, Blairsville, Georgia; three children, Constance Douglass
Allen, Charleston, South Carolina; R. Duane Douglass, Cautala, Georgia; and
Craig K. Douglass, Acworth, Georgia; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In lieu
of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart
Association, or the Mountain Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Blairsville,
Georgia.

Mrs. Dorothy Eleanor Adams, age 68,
of Branan Lodge, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at her
home following an extended illness. Mrs.
Adams was born on December 22, 1932 in Atlanta, GA the daughter of the late
Braxton Edwin Knight and the late Anna Lucille Sims Knight. She was a member of St. Clare’s Episcopal
Church and also a member of the Spiritual Directors Int’L., The Third Order of
Society of St. Francis, GA. Ornithological Society, and the GA Botanical
Society. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Denzil B. Adams in 1995.
Surviving Mrs. Adams are one
daughter, Elizabeth Adams of Sacramento, CA; one brother, William E. Knight of
Blue Ridge; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Jessica, and Benjamin Taylor, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Services for Mrs. Adams were held on
Friday, January 5, 2001 at 11 am from the St. Clare’s Episcopal Church with the
Rev. Susan Johnson officiating.
Interment followed in the St. Clare’s Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Arch Grizzle, age 80, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Grizzle was born in Union
County, Georgia, on Sunday, September 26, 1920, a son of the late Wes Grizzle
and Flurry Harkins Grizzle. He was a
retired carpenter. Mr. Grizzle was a
member of Corinth Baptist Church in Suches, Georgia He had been preceded in death by a grandson,
Brent Grizzle, in 1998.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy
Payne Grizzle, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Larry
Helton; son, James M. Grizzle; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Patricia
Grizzle; daughter and son-in-law, Oriska and Robby McKim, all of Blairsville;
brother, Leonard Grizzle of Blairsville; sister, Della Warren of Winder,
Georgia; granddaughters, Shannon Grizzle Whicker, Kennetha Grizzle, Matraca
McKim; grandsons, Scotty Helton, Jason Helton, Justin Grizzle, and Casey McKim;
many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday,
January 5, 2001 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville,
with Rev. Jerry Helton, and Rev. Brent Chatham officiating. Special music was presented by Ned Wilcoxon,
and Leon Henderson. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Paul Warren, Rex Owenby, John Brown, David
Payne, Terry Kelley, and Howard Brys.
The following grandsons served as honorary pallbearers: Scotty Helton,
Jason Helton, Justin Grizzle, and Casey McKim.
Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Dolores Lillian Snead, age 85,
of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2001, in Murphy
Medical center in Murphy, North Carolina.
Mrs. Snead was born on Friday,
Octobe4r 20, 1915 in Rock County, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Raymond
Clark and Ethel Giddel Clark. Mrs. Snead
had been living in this area since 1996, moving here from Pembroke Pines,
Florida. She was a member of Liberty
Hill United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern
Star. Mrs. Snead was the widow of the late
Lloyd Snead.
She is survived by son, David Ernest
Cozad, of Blacksburg, South Carolina; daughter, Donna Boyle, of Blairsville;
sister, Roberta O’Toole of Louisville, KY; granddaughters, Michele Groeb and
Melissa Standridge, both of Gainesville, FL; and Courtney Cozad of Michigan;
grandsons Sean Boyle of Seattle, WA and Christopher Boyle of Orange Park, FL,
many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at 2 pm from Liberty Hill Untied Methodist Church in
Morganton, Georgia, with Rev. Asbury Craft officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
