MRS. ruth a. cooper

 

Mrs. Ruth A. Cooper, age 87, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2000 in Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Goshen, IN, on December 12, 1912, a daughter of the late Walter A. and Eda A. (Murphy) Sharpe.  She had been living in this area for the past 17 years, coming here from Ligonier, IN.  Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, Morris B. Cooper, in 1993, a son Alan C. Cooper also in 1993.

Surviving are two sons, Donald W. Cooper, of Mooresville, NC and Jerald M. Cooper, of Akeley, MN; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Graveside memorial services were held Saturday, October 28, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville, IN.  In lieu of flowers you may make memorial contributions to the charity of your choice in Mrs. Cooper’s memory.

MR. garnett lee owenby

 

Mr. Garnett Lee Owenby, age 95, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, October 20, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Owenby was born in Union County, Georgia, on Tuesday, October 25, 1904, a son of the late Horace Owenby and Mary Allen Owenby.  He was retired from the state of Georgia Highway Department.  Mr. Owenby has been a life long resident of this area.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, a daughter, Mildred Butt, and three sons, Charles, Audie and Bill Owenby.

Surviving are four daughters, Dorothy Mashburn, of Gainesville, GA; Melva Lynn Ledford and Brenda Wallace, of Blairsville and Shirley Brown, of Fairmont, GA; five sons, Dillard Owenby, and Ray Owenby, both of Ottisville, Mich., J.D. Owenby and Weldon Owenby, both of Blairsville, GA, Jimmy Owenby of Hiawassee, GA; 30 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren, also survive along with many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 23, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home.  Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. R.L. Martin officiated.  Special music was presented by Doris Hefner, Willa Ree Davenport and Ned Wilcoxin, pallbearers were: Morris Mashburn, Jerry Mashburn, Jack Mashburn and Mike Mashburn and Al Garnto and Rex Owenby, Roger Owenby.  Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
