justin lanigan

 

Mr. Justin Lanigan, age 44, of Blairsville, passed away on Wednesday Oct. 25, 2006.  Mr. Lanigan was born on July 6, 1962 in New York, NY, the son of John Lanigan and Marilou Elsis Lanigan.  He resided in Blairsville for the past eight years.  Mr. Lanigan was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Lanigan are his wife, Lisa Lanigan of Blairsville, one daughter, Jodi Lanigan of Blairsville, parents, John and Marilou Lanigan of Blairsville, one sister, Judy Esposito of Blairsville, one niece, Sara Nicole Esposito of Blairsville, one nephew, Joseph Robert Esposito of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Justin helped establish and run various family businesses in and out of Union County.  He was a caring and loving father and uncle.  Justin will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, memorials may be made to the Humane Society Animal Shelter, 190 E. US Hwy. 76, Hiawassee, GA in Justin’s memory.

harold reade

 

Mr. Harold Reade, age 78, of Stonebrook, Blairsville passed away on Wednesday Oct. 25, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mr. Reade was born on Oct. 25, 1928, the son of the late Frank Reade and the late Pearl Meade Reade.  He retired from the U.s. Marine Corps with over twenty-five years of service.  He was a member of the N.R.A., Arbor Day, the V.F.W. and the D.A.V.  Mr. Reade was of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving Mr. Reade are his loving wife of twenty years, Marjorie Hutchings Reade of Blairsville, two step children, Kim Gosser of Elkhart, IN, Jeffrey Staton also of Elkhart, many other relatives and friends also survive.

No services are planned locally.  Interment will be held in the Arlington national cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mr. Reade’s memory.

mrs. wilma weaver allen

 

Mrs. Wilma Weaver Allen, age 89, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2006 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, GA.  A lifelong resident of this area, Mrs. Allen was born Tuesday, October 31, 1916 in Union County, GA, to the late Tom Weaver and the late Iva Henderson Weaver.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Allen.

Survivors include: brother, June Weaver of Blairsville; and niece, Carol Roberts of Cleveland, Ga.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Guy Bradley and Rev. Jeremy Henderson officiating.  Music was provided by The Faith Singers.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens.   Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen:  Raymond Chastain, Wymer Sampson, Charles Turner, Duff Conley, Herbert Dyer and Milton Bradley.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 5-9, Monday, October 30.

emily jones

 

Mrs. Emily Jones of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Emory University Hospital.  Mrs. Jones was born Wednesday, November 15, 1939 in Butts Co., GA to the late William Troy Pelt and the late Florence Elizabeth Chasteen.  Mrs. Jones was a member of Blairsville First Baptist Church.  Mrs. Jones had been a resident of Blairsville for one year after moving from Ellijay, GA.

Survivors include: husband, Buddy Jones of Blairsville, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Al and Cindy Jones of Winder, GA, daughter, Beth Jones of Grapevine, TX, sisters, Alma McElheney, Lyda Stephens, Margaret Tomberlin and Leila Smith and brothers, B.F. Pelt, Emmitt Pelt and Sammy Pelt.  7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 30, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Dr. Fred Lodge and Dr. Benny Tate officiating.  Music was provided by Ashley Cochran and Minister R. Terry Hooper.  Interment followed in Union memory Gardens.  Serving as pallbearers were: Vinson DeLaigle, Adam Teague, Kip Pelt, Van Pelt, Adam Cochran and Don Pelt.

The family suggests that donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

frankie mae fortenberry

 

Mrs. Frankie Mae Fortenberry, age 87, of Owltown Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 in the Union General hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Fortenberry was born on Nov. 2, 1918 in Union County, the daughter of the late William Frank Summerour and the late Florence Edna Gillespie Summerour.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Gibson Cook in 2006.  Mrs. Fortenberry was a member of the Coosa United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Fortenberry are her loving husband of twenty years, Vernon Doyle Fortenberry of Blairsville, one daughter, Susan Elaine Alexander of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ira Eugene Gibson of Shelby, NC, Jerry martin and Teresa Gibson of Hendersonville, TN, four step-sons and daughters-in-law, J.W. and Janice Fortenberry of Blairsville, Mitchell and Betty Jo Fortenberry of Adairsville, GA, Jimmy and Ann Fortenberry of of Rome, GA, Randy and Sharon Fortenberry of Blairsville, three sisters and one brother-in-law, Sue Summerour, Shirley Brackett, Katherine and Norman Bachelor all of Blairsville, eleven grandchildren, Waylon and Holly Gibson, Dawn and Larry Cook, Pam Madden, Veda, Janice, and Roberta Weaver, Destinee, Heather and Shane Gibson, fourteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday Oct. 23, 2006 at 2 pm from the Coosa Methodist Church with the Rev. Katie Strals and Rev. Earl Bishop officiating.  Special music was presented by The Gibsons.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Tim Levi, Kevin Edwards, Jim Duncan, Bert Carpenter, Tim Green, Kevin Collette, Shane Gibson, Joey Brooks and Larry Cook.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

mary c. forney

 

Mrs. Mary C. Forney, age 95, of Caylee Anne Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Forney was born on Sept. 11, 1911 in Savannah, GA, the daughter of the late Ernest Cordray and the late Lila Bouche Cordray.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lester Forney in 1995.  Mrs. Forney was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Forney are one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jerry Elizabeth Forney of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Stephen Forney of Savannah, David and Marci Forney of Blairsville, two great grandchildren, Christian and Elizabeth, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services were held on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 11 am from the Catholic Cemetery in Savannah with Dr. Phillip Meeks officiating.  The family met with friends at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home in Savannah on Thursday Oct. 26 from 7-9 pm.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mrs. Forney’s honor.
