Mr.
Carter Reid “C.R.” Hudson, age 76, of Marietta, died Wednesday, October
29.
1997.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 31, 1997 in the chapel of
Mayes
Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home with Dr. Stephen Stanfield officiating. Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery,
Marietta, GA.
Born in
Union County, GA. Mr. Hudson came to Cobb County in
1953 to work for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation where he retired in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the
European Theatre and was also present at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the American Legion Post
#160 in Smyrna and was a longtime member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Sarah Nell Patterson Hudson,
Marietta, GA.; three daughters, Diane H. Nitschke, Ball Ground, GA.,
Frieda H.
Crawford, Matthews, N.C. and Pat Hudson, Kennesaw, GA.; son, Gary Reid
Hudson,
Marietta, GA.; sister, Hazel H. Dillinger, Blairsville and Arthur
Hutson,
Ballground, (sic) GA.; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr.
L.C. Miller, age 56, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday,
October
29, 1997.
Mr.
Miller was born in Cherokee County, North Carolina, on
May 27, 1941, a son of the late Reuben Miller and Hazel Plott Miller. He was a life-long resident of this area, and
a member and deacon of Union Baptist Church.
Mr. Miller also served as the Sunday School Superintendent here. He was a member of Youngcane Masonic
Lodge. Preceding him in death was
his
son, Lonnie Miller, who died on June 6th, 1995.
Surviving
are his wife, Mrs. Doris Hood Miller, of Blairsville; daughter, Sheila
Miller,
daughter and son-in-law, Gina Miller Thompson and Perry Thompson,
daughter-in-law, Tammy Miller Hughes, and nieces, Audrey Davis Lovell
and
Katherine Davis, all of Blairsville.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, November 1, 1997 at 2 p.m. from Union
Baptist
Church with Rev. Benny Nix officiating. Special
music was presented by The Trackrock Quartet.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Perry Thompson,
Jeff
Burks, Greg Fortenberry, Roger Cobb, Darren Rowan, and David Atkins. The following gentlemen served as honorary
escort to the family: Buddy Rowan, Christ (sic) Fortenberry, Craig
Davenport,
and Tommy Jones. Interment was in Union
Baptist Church Cemetery, with Masonic Graveside Services performed by
members
of Youngcane Masonic Lodge.

Mr.
Earl McGaha, age 62, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Saturday,
November 1,
1997 in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr.
McGaha was born in Clay County, North Carolina, on May
19, 1935, a son of the late Jessie McGaha and Nellie Meadows McGaha. He had lived most of his life in this area
and was a member of Mt. Oliviet (sic) Baptist Church.
Surviving
are his wife, Inez Beavers McGaha, of Blairsville; daughter, Jeanie
Owenby;
daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jeff Curtis; daughter and
son-in-law,
Barbara and Sid Garrett; son, Tommy McGaha; son and daughter-in-law,
Jerry and
Sharon McGaha; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and doris (sic) McGaha,
all of
Blairsville; brother, Johnny McGaha of Andrews, N.C.; brother Clyde
McGaha of
Young Harris, GA.; brother, Fred McGaha of Blairsville; sisters, Minnie
Shook
of Young Harris and Alfa Gilbert of Blairsville; grandchildren, William
and
Crystal Owenby, Lee and Missie Jones, Melissa McGaha, Jessie McGaha,
and
Brittney McGaha.
Funeral
services were held Monday, November 3, 1997 at 2 p.m. from Mt. Oliviet
(sic)
Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Abernathy and Rev. Fred Thomas
officiating. Special music was presented
by the Heavenly
Echos (sic). The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: David Davenport,
Tim McGaha, Freddie McGaha, Chris Beavers, Steve and Eddie Gilbert. Interment was in the church cemetery.

William
Chadwick Ballew, age 65, of the 800 block of Earl of Chesterfield Lane,
died
October 25, 1997.
Born in
Blairsville, GA., he was a retired U.S. Navy
Lieutenant Commander with 26 years of service.
He was formerly employed with Tracor & Bendix Inc. Mr. Ballew was a member of St. Nicholas
Catholic Church, Retired Officers Association, and the Virginia Beach
Amateur
Radio Club.
Survivors
include his wife, Dorothy “Dolly” Ballew; his
mother, Winnie Hesketh of Blairsville; a brother, Rex Ballew of
Blairsville; a
niece and three nephews.
A Mass of
the Resurrection was celebrated at 8 p.m. Monday
in St. Nicholas Catholic Church by Fr. James M. Noto.
Burial was at noon Tuesday in Olive branch
Cemetery, City park Avenue, Portsmouth,
where military
honors was accorded. Hollomon-Brown
Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is handling arrangements.
Memorial
