mr. james hubert duckworht

 

Mr. James Hubert Duckworth, age 60, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 31, 1999 in Union County, Georgia.

Mr. Duckworth was born in Union County, Georgia on Friday, August 4, 1939, a son of Clara Belle Collins Duckworth and the late Donald Francis Duckworth.  He was a veteran of the U.s. Army.  Mr. Duckworth was employed by Wells Fargo, in the security department.  He was a member of Old Liberty Baptist Church, and also was a member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge #144, F & AM.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Ginn Duckworth of Blairsville; his mother, Clara Belle Duckworth of Blairsville; daughters, Tammy Lynn Bryson and Peggy Lynn Dwyer, and Marissa Crowley, all of Blairsville; son, Scotty James Duckworth of Blairsville; step-daughters, Lori Ann Finch and Lynn Smith, both of Duluth, GA, Penny London of Sugar Hill, GA; step-sons Thomas Charles Smith of Lawrenceville, GA and David Smith of Blairsville; sister Carrie Jo McGahie of Blairsville; five grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and one great granddaughter also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 3, 1999 at 2 pm from Old Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Willis Garrett officiating.  Special music was presented by Old Liberty Baptist Church Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bobby Joe Collins, David Finch, Frank Collins, Clift London, Tommy Anderson and Keith Evans.  Members of the North Georgia Honor Guard presented military honors.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hand-in-Hand Hospice PO Box 70, Hiawassee GA 30546.  Interment was in Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

willilam “buck” anderson

 

William Cecil “Buck” Anderson, 79, Jupiter Street died October 30, 1999 at home.  He was a native of Union County, GA, husband of the late Pauline Hughes Anderson, son of the late Calvin and Ida Underwood Anderson, brother of five late brothers and sisters, member of Second Baptist Church, assistant pastor and retired textile worker.

Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Anderson and jack Jackson, Bessemer City; sons and daughters-in-law, James Samuel “Sammy” and Barbara Anderson, Tommy Lee and Lisa Anderson, Gastonia; sisters, Ruby Holder, Willie Mae Williamson, Gastonia, Ethel Williams, Newport, Tennessee; grandchildren and spouses, Donna Kay and John Cloninger, James Ricky Anderson, Danny Lee and Misty Anderson, Gastonia, Debbie Jackson and Shawn Black, John Everette Jackson, Bessemer City; great grandchildren, C.J. Cloninger, Brandon Baucom, Matthew Shane Black; three step great grandchildren, one step great great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 2nd at 2 pm at the Second Baptist Church with Revs. Julius Hall, Lewis Evans, Billy Allen officiating.  Burial was in Westview Gardens.  Visitation was held at Carothers Funeral home in Gastonia.  Memorials may e made to Donor’s choice.  Carothers Funeral Home of Gastonia was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. lawrence taft patton

 

Mr. Lawrence Taft Patton, age 91, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, November 4, 1999 at his home.

Mr. Patton was born in Union county Georgia, on Friday, October 30, 1908, a son of the late Ramsey Patton and Nettie Irene Dills Patton.  He was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Union County.  Mr. Patton was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Patton, in 1992, and a daughter, Loretta Smith, in 1967.

Surviving are sons, Warren Taft Patton of Blairsville and Tasker Roy Patton of Marietta; a daughter, Kathryn Vendetta Wright of Blairsville; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren also survive, along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 6, 1999 at 2 pm from Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Dilbeck officiating.  Special music was presented by Albert and Martha Davenport, Steve Kimsey and The faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mike Patton, Marty Patton, Wendell Wright, Charlie Joe Smith, Jr., Keith Foster, Jr. and Jimmy Griffin.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund or to the cemetery fund.

mr. william gerald “jerry” harper, jr.

 

Mr. William Gerald “better known as Jerry” Harper, Jr., age 76,of Faith Acres Road, Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 1999 in the VA Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.  Mr. Harper had lived in Union County for the past twenty eight years where he and his wife, Gloria, had owned and operated The Blairsville Florist.  He was born on November 16, 1922 in Hammond, Indiana and was the son of the late William Gerald Harper, Sr. and Elizabeth Owen Harper.  Mr. Harper was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and also a former commander of the United states Power Squadron, District 13 and also a former commander of Valley Ho Squadron in San Fernando, CA.

Surviving Mr. Harper are his wife of fifty years, Gloria Killeen Harper of Blairsville; five sons and daughter-in-laws, Richard James and Ann Harper of Blairsville, Michael and Sheri Harper of Simi Valley, CA, Douglas and Elizabeth Harper of Blairsville, Patrick and Kim Harper of Douglasville, GA, Randy and Terri Harper of Roopville, GA; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dr. Kathleen Harper of Tallahassee, FL, Theresa and Johnny Cook of Holly Springs, GA.; mother, Elizabeth Owen Dockery of Blairsville; sister, Susan Cheek of Blairsville; two brothers, Jon Harper of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, bud Harper of Big Key, FL; fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at 4 pm from the Chapel of the Mountain View Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Lee officiating.  Special music was presented by Alena Lee.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Johnny Cook, John Nix, George Cheek, Cameron Cook, Andy Harper, Randy Harper, and Andy Cheek.  Interment followed in the Holly Hill Veteran Cemetery.  The North Georgia Honor Guard was in charge of the graveside services.

mr. richard james reynolds

 

Mr. Richard James Reynolds, age 61, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 1999 in Union County, Georgia.

Mr. Reynolds was born in Johnson County (Des Moines), Iowa on Friday, June 17, 1938, a son of Evelyn Crew Reynolds and the late Buster Reynolds.  Mr. Reynolds lived in the Miami area throughout the years of 1979 until 1999.  He lived the last 2 ½ months of his life in Union County, Georgia.  He was a retired plumber.  Mr. Reynolds was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Aline Brackett and his sister, Carolyn.

Surviving are his wife, Melba Brackett Reynolds of the home; his mother, Evelyn Caulkins of Stuart, Iowa; a number of children and grandchildren: brothers, Roger Reynolds of California and Bob Reynolds of Des Moines, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Gary Davis; father-in-law, Charles R. Brackett of Atlanta; and brother-in-law, Jackie Britt of Atlanta.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at 1 pm from Books Funeral Care in Clive, Iowa.  Burial was in Stuart Cemetery in Iowa.

mrs. elsie hunter deaver

 

Mrs. Elsie Hunter Deaver, age 54, of Deaver Road, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Deaver was born on August 14, 1945 in Union County, the daughter of Hansel Hunter and the late Ruby Ella Little Hunter.  She was a member of the Ivy Log Baptist Church and had been involved in gospel music all of her life.  Mrs. Deaver attended Young Harris College and also received her B.S. and M.A. at the University of Georgia.  She was a retired teacher from the Cherokee County School System and a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter Gappa Eta.

Surviving Mrs. Deaver are her husband of ten years, Lester Deaver of Blairsville; father, Hansel Hunter of Blairsville; sister, Nema Hunter Mobley of Ackworth, GA; uncles, Holland Little of MS, Floyd Little of Culberson, NC; aunts, Lena Thompson of Culberson, NC, Virginia Titshaw of Lawrenceville, GA; niece, Dawn Mobley Gunter; nephews, Gordon Mobley; great niece, Jana Gunter; great nephews, Joshua Gunter; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at 1 pm from the Ivy Log Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Karnes and Dr. Benny Erwin officiating.  Special music was presented by The Convention Signers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bill Conner, Marlin Gunter, Tim Deaver, Fred Gray, Harvey Deaver, Jack Duggar and Paul Thompson.  Interment followed in the Ivy Log Cemetery.

Miss trish rogers

 

Miss Trish Rogers, age 16, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, November 5, 1999 in Towns County, Georgia, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Trisha was born in Fannin County, Georgia on Thursday August 11 1983. She was a student at Union County High School and was a former member of the Flag Corps.  Trish had been named to Who’s Who.

Surviving are her parents, Robert and Tina Rogers, of Blairsville; maternal grandparents, hank and Sherry Jones, of Blairsville; paternal grandmother Vendetta Rogers of Blairsville; maternal grandfather, Skip Huskins of Marble, NC; paternal grandfather, Gene Rogers of Blairsville maternal great grandfather, George Luther Roberson, of Murphy, NC; and maternal great grandfather, Carl Jones of Blairsville; many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 8, 1999 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran funeral Home I Blairsville with Rev. William Sisum officiating.  Special music was presented by Brittney Jones and Julia Youngblood.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Shanon Jones, Danny Holt, Tyson Walker, Gregg Huskins, Mel Holt, and Lonnie Jones.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Nathan Patterson, James Patterson, and Robin Seabolt.  Interment was in Liberty Hill Methodist Cemetery.

Miss Korie Lee Byrd, age 16, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, November 5 1999 in Towns County, Georgia from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Korie was born on Thursday, June 9, 1983, in Union County, Georgia.  She was a student at Union County high School, and was a former member of the Flag Corps.  Korie was also a member of The Nazarene Church in Blairsville.

Surviving are her mother, Julia Ann Coplin Byrd of Young Harris, GA; father, Dorse Edward Byrd, Jr.; three sisters, Katie Leigh Byrd, Kittie Leah Byrd, and Kenna Lea Byrd, all of Blairsville; many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 8, 1999 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Frank Visser officiating.  Special music was presented by Brittney ones and Julia Youngblood.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Barry Tabor, Jr. Danny Plott, Koda Purvis, Robert Holt, Dann Purvis, and Daniel Byrd.  Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. beverley ann denzinger

 

Mrs. Beverley Ann Denzinger, age 49 of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 31, 1999 in Atlanta Medical Center.

Mrs. Denzinger was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, April 1, 1950, a daughter of Raymond and Jeanette Blatt, sister of Jan.  She received a dental hygiene degree from North Western University in Chicago and BA from Ambassador University in California.  Mrs. Denzinger practiced as a dental hygienist in Souther California.  She married Mike on October 2, 1976 and became a full time mother when her first son, Joseph, was born in 1981.  Her second son, Benjamin, was born in 1985.  The family moved to Atlanta in1981 and later moved to Blairsville, in December of 1995.  Bev’s first priority was her boys.  She was a wonderful mother and was known to everyone who met her for her outgoing personality and infectious smile.  She always provided wisdom and support to her family.  Bev was a talented watercolor artist, with the desire to become an illustrator for children’s books and magazines.  Her family and friends will dearly miss her, but her example of love will live on in all of us.

Surviving are her husband, Mike of Blairsville; her mother, Jeanette Blatt of Cincinnati, Ohio; her sons, Joseph E. and Benjamin John Denzinger of Blairsville; and her sister, Jan Bicknaver of Cincinnati.  Many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 4, 1999 at 2 pm from Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Dennis Wheatcroft officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Stan Denzinger, Robert Bicknaver, Randy Bicknaver, Harold Baker, Charles Baker, and Hoyt LeFevers. Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  If you wish, memorials may be made to the Beverley Denzinger memorial Fund (Project Shoebox Ministry) which has been arranged with Union County Bank in Blairsville.
