pat luther young

 

Mr. Pat Luther Young, age 73, of Murphy Hwy., Blairsville passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Young was born on March 25, 1934 in Union County, the son of; the late Luther Young and the late Georgia Carney Young.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had owned and operated Young’s Service Station from may 4 1969 thru March 1, 1987.  He also owned and operated Young’s Wrecker Service since 1982.  Pat loved people and loved to talk and never met a stranger.  He loved children and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son, Harry Young in 1957 and by three sisters, Mary Wright, Fannie Duckworth and Willie Murphy.  Mr. Young was a member of Youngstown Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Young are his loving wife of fifty-two years, Opal Ledford Young; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Barry and Linda Young of Blairsville, Larry Young of Blairsville, Tim Young and his fiancée Jessica Yancey both of Blairsville; one sister, Hattie Payne of Blairsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Otis and Sara Lou Young of Blairsville; three grandchildren, Cindy Jackson of Atlanta, Daniel and Katie Young both of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Seay, Rev. R.L. martin, Rev. Charles Abernathy and Rev. Jonathan Hood.  Special music was presented by Hubert and Betty Legg.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, James Murphy, Don Murphy, Bruce Nichols, Bobby Nelson, Tony Henderson and Avery Mason.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bobby Murphy and Bill Duckworth.  Interment followed in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m.

vester eugenegene” shuler

 

Vester Eugene “Gene” Shuler, age 80, of Walden, passed away October 30, 2007 in Laramie, Wyoming.  Gene was born July 31, 1927 in Union County, GA to Murphy Jane Fortenberry and Marion Graden Shuler.  Gene graduated from high school in Blairsville, GA.  In 1945, he joined the Army where he served as an automotive mechanic with Hq Company, 343rd Engineers General Service Regiment in Germany.  His duties included: repairing trucks, grinding valves, adjusting brakes, maintaining fuel system and electrical repairs.  He supervised the work for 10 civilian mechanics.  He also was a carpenter for the Army Service Forces Training Center.

On July 17, 1948, Gene was united in marriage to Loujine Young in Blairsville, GA.  In 1950, they moved to Walden, CO where Gene worked for Ozark-Mahoney.  He also worked for Willford Motors, Cooper Motors and was the Supervisor of maintenance with Sigma Coal Company.  He was a member of the North Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was Under-Sheriff of Walden.

Gene had many hobbies including playing the fiddle, guitar and mandolin.  He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and traveling.  He enjoyed spending time eating and visiting with family and friends.

Gene is survived by his wife of 59 years Loujine Shuler.  He has two children; son Carl Shuler and wife Patty and daughter Gwen Hanson and husband Kirk all of Walden.  He has 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

A funeral services was held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2007 at the North park Community Church in Walden with visitation starting at 12 p.m.  Interment was at the Jackson County Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s name in care of the Mountain Valley Bank for the North park Medical Center.

ruthie eulene stinton

 

Mrs. Ruthie Eulene Stinton, age 68, of Sawmill Rd., Blairsville passed away on Friday, November 9, 2007 in Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Stinton was born on December 4, 1938 in Escambia County, FL, the daughter of the late Len Beasley and the late Katie hanks Beasley.  Mrs. Stinton attended Blairsville Church of God.

Surviving Mrs. Stinton are her loving husband of fifty years, John Stinton of Blairsville; seven children, Patricia and Richard Schmitgen of Myakka, FL, John and Jarell Stinton of palmetto, FL, Tim and Janet Stinton of Parrish, FL, James and Shari Stinton of palmetto, FL, Cindy and Randy Weaver of Clemmons NC, Rob and Tammy Stinton of Palmetto, FL, Curtis Stinton of Blairsville; two sisters, Martha Rhodes and Georgia Lee Beasley of Pensacola, FL; five brothers, Bobby, Billy, Ed, and Ronnie Beasley all of Pensacola, FL, and Ricky Beasley of AL; twenty grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Visitation for Mrs. Stinton was held on Sunday, November 11, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. from the Blairsville Church of God.  Funeral services followed on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of palmetto in palmetto, FL with Rev. Steve Pittman officiating.  The grandsons served as pallbearers.  Interment and graveside services followed in the Gillett Cemetery in palmetto.

Little Tracy Lynn Holder, infant daughter of Sheila Sosebee Deyton and Jeff Holder, both of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, November 5, 2007at Union general hospital in Blairsville.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Jeffery Holder, II; maternal grandfather, Robert Sosebee; paternal grandfather, Frank Monroe Holder; and an uncle, Yogi Lee.

Survivors include her mother, Sheila Sosebee Deyton; and father, Jeff Holder; brother, Clay Pickelsimer of Blairsville; sister, Amanda Lee Holder of Cumming, GA; aunt and uncle, Jennifer and Chip Benton of Danielsville, GA; aunt, Lisa Lee of Blairsville; aunt, Lornia Yevette Deaton of Morganton, GA; aunt and uncle, Kristy and Jamy Cook of Blairsville, aunt and uncle, Laura and Tony Singleton of Dawsonville, GA; uncle, jerry Holder of Cumming, GA; maternal grandmother, Pauline Sosebee of Blairsville; and paternal grandmother, Jean Holder of Blairsville; and many cousins.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 9, 2007 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Sosebee officiating.  Music was provided by Tommy Greene.  Interment followed in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Nolan Lee, John Benton, and Clay Pickelsimer.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Thursday, November 8th.
