Mr. James
T. Davis, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, November 6, 2000
in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Davis
was born on Saturday, January 31, 1920 in Harlen County, Kentucky, a son of the
late June Davis and Vesta Dodds Davis.
He was a farmer and moved to the Blairsville area in 1996, from Hall
County, Georgia.
He is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertie Pickelsimer Davis of the home; son and
daughter-in-law, James H. and Wanda Davis, of Blairsville; son, Jesse J. Davis,
of Blairsville; daughters and sons-in-law: Delois and Larry Fisher of
Morganton, Georgia; Debra and Marshall Jones of Dahlonega, Georgia; Dale
Smallwood and Donald Brown of Hiawassee, Georgia; Brenda and Junior Christy of
Dahlonega; and Ann and Willis Smallwood of Blairsville; daughter, Gail Ceballos
of Dahlonega; brother, Gordon Davis of Dahlonega; 19 grandchildren and 7 great
grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, November 9, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Earl Pickelsimer and Rev. Joey
Fortner officiating. Special music was
presented by Jamie Fortner and the Christian Friends Quartet. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Devon Ledford, James Gilreath, Kevin Gilreath, Jonathan Davis,
Darrel Ceballos, and Cody Marsh.
Interment was in Cooper’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Nina
Cook Jarrett, age 98, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November
8, 2000 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Jarrett was born in Union County, Georgia, on Thursday, February 27, 1902, a
daughter of the late Fate Cook, and Anna Lou Johnson Cook. She was a homemaker, and had lived in
Blairsville almost all of her life. Mrs.
Jarrett was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Marietta at the time of
her death. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Truman Jarrett, in 1975.
Surviving
are her daughter, Reginia Kirby, of Marietta; granddaughter, Carol K.
Robertson, also of Marietta; three grandsons: Steve Kirby, of Anderson, SC;
Benny Kirby, of Kennesaw, GA; and David Kirby, of Buford, GA; a sister, Ada
Souther, of Blairsville; eleven great grandchildren and six great great
grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, November 11, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Don Mason, Rev. Brent Chatham, and Rev. Ray
Potts officiating. Special music was
presented by Mrs. Ella Battle, Mrs. Sarah Kelley, and Mrs. Ruth Gibson. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: E.L. Cook, Doug Davenport, Leon Davenport, Charles Jenkins,
Michael Kirby, Steve Kirby, and Benny Kirby.
Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.
In lieu
of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Mrs. Jarrett to
Sandy Plains Baptist Church of Marietta, or Zebulon Baptist Church of
Blairsville.

Mr.
Melvin H. Emerson, age 56, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday,
November 11, 2000 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr.
Emerson was born in Union County, Georgia, on Thursday, January 27, 1944, a son
of the late Jess T. Emerson and Eva Mae Rogers Emerson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Emerson was employed by E.J. Footwear in
Blairsville, and was a lifelong resident of this area. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church. A brother, Jim Lee Emerson,
passed away in 1982.
Surviving
are his wife, Frances Plott Emerson of the home; daughters and sons-in-law,
Melva Lynn and Jeff Edwards of Clermont, Georgia; and Marsha and David Totherow
of Blairsville; sisters, Virginia Chastain of Blairsville and Wanda Woody of
Baldwin, Georgia; a brother, Roy Emerson of Fort Valley, Georgia; three
grandchildren, Brandy and Cody Edwards and Adam Totherow. Many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral services
were held Monday, November 13, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. Joe Dan Wilkins
officiating. Special music was presented
by Susie Phillips, Louise DeLong, and
Sara Kelley. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Ronnie Kelley, Tamar Thompson, Neal Griggs, Freddy
McGaha, Raymond Mull, and J.E. Corn.
Interment was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth
Collins Hood, age 77, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, November 7,
2000 at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hood
was born on Tuesday, June 26, 1923 in Union County, Georgia, a daughter of the
late John C. Collins and Lena Lance Collins.
She was a lifelong resident of this area and was a member of Old Liberty
Baptist Church. Mrs. Hood had been
preceded in death by her husband, the late Erion Hood.
She is
survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sheila Hood of Fayetteville,
Georgia, and son and daughter-in-law Eddy and Cherry Hood of Blairsville; two
sisters, Doris Colwell of Blairsville and Docia Loh of Orlando, Florida; five
granddaughters, Kimberly Ward, Amy Rogers, Penny Hood, Calley Hood and Haley
Hood; one great granddaughter, Laura Beth Rogers; several nieces and nephews
and many friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at 11 am from the chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Young and Rev. Harley
Hunter officiating. Special music was
presented by Old Liberty Quartet and Old Liberty Baptist Church Choir. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Robert Rogers, Steve England, Mitchell Henderson, and Mark Weaver. Interment was in Old Liberty Baptist Church
Cemetery.
