gregary james (greg) brooks

 

            Mr. Gregary (Greg) James Brooks, age 19, of Doublehead Gap Rd., Blue Ridge, formerly of Blairsville passed away on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.  Greg was born on Oct. 4, 1990 in Floyd County, GA, the son of Gary L. Brooks and Tonya Shadwick Brooks.  He was an amazing baseball player and loved riding motorcycles.  He loved and lived life to the fullest.  Greg was a member of Tilley Bend Baptist Church. 

            Surviving Greg are his fiancée, Brittany Pryce of Blue ridge, mother, Tonya brooks of Blue Ridge, father, Gary Brooks of Rome, GA, one brother, Brandon Brooks, three sisters, sherry, Destiny and Karen Brooks all of Blue Ridge, grandfather, James Brooks of Rome, uncles, Stevie Shadwick of Ft. Payne, AL, Chris Shadwick of Blue Ridge, several aunts, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

            Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Musical selections will be some of Greg’s favorite hymns.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-2 p.m. prior to the service.

carolyn marie brewer

 

            Mrs. Carolyn Marie Brewer, age 71, of Ed King Rd., Blairsville passed away on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.  Mrs. Brewer was born on Jan. 27, 1938 in Fulton County, GA, the daughter of the late Horace Kennedy and the late Vina Goodwin Kennedy.  Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was devoted to her family.  Carolyn was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. 

            Surviving Mrs. Brewer are her loving husband of fifty-five years, Doyle (Gene) Brewer of Blairsville, stepfather, Charles M. Fowler of Blairsville, eight children, Ronnie and Donna Brewer of Blairsville, carol and David Tromp of TX, Jeannie Moore of NC, Debbie and Kenneth George of Blairsville, Donna Duggins of NC, Jeannie Marie Brewer of Blairsville, Tiffani Brewer of Blairsville, Caine Brewer of Blairsville, twelve grandchildren, Tonya, Eugene, LeAnn, Windy, crystal, Josh, Lee, Rebecca, Allen, Holly, Brandon and Brandy, numerous great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

            Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel with the rev. Tommy Jones officiating.  Special music was presented by Scott lance, Jr. and Margaritta Baker.  Serving as pallbearers were Eugene Brewer, Keith Brewer, Jr. Baker, Dean Brewer, Louie Brewer, Forset (sic) Baker, William Renaud and Josh George.  Interment followed in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4-8 p.m.

anita johnston

 

            Anita Johnston, 78, of Blairsville, GA and Sarasota, FL, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 11, 2009, after a long, courageous battle with ovarian cancer.  She fought the good fight, she finished the race, and always kept her faith (II Tim 4:7)  The family of Anita Johnston invite you to share in the celebration of her life to be held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 4 PM in the chapel at Mountain View funeral Home, 119 Murphy Hwy., Blairsville, GA. 

Anita was born June 8, 1931 in Dahle, Germany and came to the United States in 1960.  She met and married Everett, her husband of 47 years.  Together they raised three children, Melody, Everett Jr., and Heidi in Sarasota, FL.  They moved to Blairsville, GA in 1996 and spent winters in Sarasota. 

Anita was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  Her passion was her family and making sure everyone who crossed her path would know Jesus.  This disease did not rob her of her faith, in fact, it made it stronger.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends.  She was a member of Sarasota Baptist church in Sarasota, FL, and faith Baptist Church in Blairsville, Ga.

In addition to her husband Everett, Anita is survived by her daughter, Melody Johnston of Charlotte, NC; son, Everett “Sonny” Johnston, Jr., and his wife, Theresa of Sarasota, FL; and daughter, Heidi Lyon and her husband Jim, of Blountville, TN; grandchildren Kyle, Kelsey and Keith Pulikowski, of Charlotte, NC; Brittany and Lucas Johnston of Sarasota, FL; Meghan, Caitlyn and Anna Lyon of Blountville, TN; sister, Erika Raguth and her husband, Ralph, of Sarasota, FL; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

            In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Hospice of Blue Ridge, GA, Faith Baptist Church, or to a charity of donor’s choice.

            A special thanks to all who helped Anita and her family during this time, especially hospice nurses Andrea, Melinda, Angela, & Angie; chemo nurse, Elizabeth; Dr. Greene; Dr. Sanders; Dr. Edwards; Pastor Helms and his wife Karen.  Also a warm thanks to all at faith Baptist who provided meals, cards and encouragement, and loving thanks to close friends Larry, Barbara and Bill.

roy e. cardell

 

            Roy E. Cardell, age 74, of Blairsville, GA, died November 12, 2009, after an extended battle with cancer.

            Roy was born May 6, 1935, in Austell, GA.  His parents were the late C. Roy (C.R.) and Thelma Cardell.  Roy, and his wife of 54 years, Beverly Glore Cardell, married May 12, 1955, maintained a family home for many years in Mableton, GA.  Roy retired as Director of Tooling from Lockheed martin.  For most of his career he worked at the Marietta, GA, plant, but also had assignments in Burbank, CA; Meridian, MS; Brindisi, Italy; Chinhae, South Korea, Fort Worth, TX, Prestbury, England, and Huntsville, AL.  he and his wife Beverly traveled extensively and took great joy in their three children and seven grandchildren.  An engineer at heart, Roy was happiest when there was a problem to solve and something to build. 

He was a member of First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Union County and was active in many volunteer activities including Jaycees (past president) and local politics; and since retirement split time between his grandchildren, his church, ICL at Young Harris, Oasis program at FUMC, and the Mountain High Hikers.

Roy is survived by his wife, Beverly, children, Mackey McNeill and spouse Barry Schlimme of Independence, KY, Jeff and Noelle Cardell of Rochester, NY, Jenny and Charles Whitener of Lookout Mountain, GA; grandchildren, Sarah Mohr, Annemarie Cardell, Amanda Cardell, Alyse Cardell, Andrew Cardell, Chase Whitener, and Katie Whitener; sister-in-law, Janet Cardell, sister, Martha Walston, brother-in-law bill Walston, sister Alice Coussons.

Roy is predeceased by his brother Alfred Cardell.     

The Memorial Service was led by pastor Ben Lewis and was held at 11 AM, Monday, November 16, 2009 at First United Methodist church of Union county, 859 Highway 515, Blairsville, GA. 

To celebrate Roy’s life the family will be developing a meditation garden at his church for all to enjoy.  The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to:  First United Methodist Church of Union County, 859 Highway 515, Blairsville, GA  30512. Attn: the Roy Cardell Memorial Fund.
