Lola
McCollum, age 75, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November
9, 1997
in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Mrs.
McCollum was born in Union County, Georgia on July 17,
1922 a daughter of the late Joseph Benjamin Teague and Malinda
Duckworth
Teague. She was a homemaker and lifelong
resident of this area. She was a member
of Fairview Baptist Church.
Surviving
are her husband, Robert David McCollum, of Blairsville; son, Robert
McCollum of
Blairsville; daughter, Vel Hicks of Mableton, GA.; daughter, Grapelle
Partridge
of Gainesville; son, Larry McCollum of Blairsville; daughter, Lynda
Timms of
Gainesville; son, Clyde McCollum of Gainesville; daughter, Barbara
Cooke of
Murphy, N.C.; son, Wayne McCollum of Blairsville; brother, Herman
Teague of
Marietta, GA; brother, Howard Teague of Dalton, GA.;
sister, Tina Ledbetter of Blairsville; twenty
grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and
other
relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, November 12, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the
chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Willis Garrett
officiating. Special music was presented
by the Faith
Singers. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Larry McCollum, Donnie
McCollum, Dennis Davis, Mike Partridge, Anthony Partridge, Douglas
Holland. Interment was in Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church Cemetery.

Grace Parker, age 97, of Canton, GA., formerly of Blue Ridge, Georgia,

Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 8, 1997 at her home.
Surviving

Davenport of Marietta, GA., Mrs. Gladys Deiters of Montgomery, AL.,

Charles
W. Rogers, age 66, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday,
November 9,
1997.
Mr.
Rogers was born in Union County, Georgia on May 29, 1931
a son of the late Roy Rogers and Ellen Stephens Rogers.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served
in Korea. HE lived most of his life in
this area, and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Surviving
are his wife, Jerrie Lane Nelson Rogers of Blairsville; daughter,
Cynthia
Elaine Rogers of Hiawassee, GA.; daughter, Lisa Harden of Blairsville,
brother,
Jack Rogers of Blairsville; sisters, Mary Roberts of Florida and Madge
Davis of
Atlanta, GA.; grandson, J.W. Harden.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, November 11, 1997 at 2 p.m. from Bethlehem
Baptist
Church with Rev. Ray Potts, Rev. Don Hood, and Rev. Claud Davenport
officiating. Special music was presented
by the Faith
Singers. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Roy Hefner, Louis
Henderson, Herbert Smith, Richard Tanner, Jerry Brewer, and David
Stokes. Serving as honorary escort to the

Mrs.
Verna Mae Carney, age 78, of Mableton, Georgia, formerly of Union
County,
Georgia, passed away Thursday, November 13, 1997 at her home following
an
extended illness.
Mrs.
Carney was born in Cobb County, Georgia on January 5,
1919 a daughter of the late John Andrew Foster and Eva Mae Ramsey
Foster. She moved to Cobb county
(sic) in 1950 from Ohio where she had lived from 1936-1945. She was a member of new Union Baptist
Church. Mrs. Carney was preceded in
death by her husband, Claude Thomas Carney, Sr.
Surviving
are her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Gordon Payne, son and
daughter-in-law,
Claude, Jr. and Lorene Carney, all of Blairsville; daughter and
son-in-law,
Doris and Charles Lewis of McDonough, GA; son, Mickey Carney of
Mableton,
Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Johnny Phillips of
Douglasville,
Georgia; and daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Charles Burkhalter of
Marietta,
GA.; sister, Lucille Shope of Robbinsville, N.C.; many grandchildren
and great
grandchildren also survive.

Mrs.
Zadie Ellisor Neely, age 87, of Stonehenge
Care Center
in Blairsville, Georgia passed away Friday, November 14, 1997 in Union
General
Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Neely was born on January 26, 1910 in Richland County, South
Carolina, a daughter of the late Willie D. Ellisor and Lula Jacobs
Ellisor. She was a retired mobile home
park operator in Columbia, South Carolina.

are daughter, Lou Ann Bleakley, of Blairsville; two brothers, Lowell
Ellisor of
Virginia Beach, VA; Rem Ellisor of great Falls, S.C.; four sisters,

Roddey and Plumie Roddey both of Great Falls, S.C., and Clennie Curtis

Lugoff, S.C., and Gertie Smith of North, S.C.; three grandchildren and

great grandchildren.

Lloyd
Foster age 88, of Blairsville, GA died Friday, October 31, 1997 in
Union
General Hospital.
Foster
was born in Union County, GA, on February 22, 1909, a
son of the late John Andrew Foster and Eva Rancy Foster.
He had lived most of his life in this
area. Foster was a member of New Union
Baptist Church. He was a retired foreman
from Cities Service Company in Copperhill, TN, and had served on the
Union
County Board of Education.
Survivors
include his widow, Mrs. Desma Lee Foster of
Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law Betty Jean and Herbert Smith of
Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Junior Bridges of
Blairsville; son, John Foster of Mableton, GA.; two sisters, Verna Mae
Carney
of Mableton and Lucille Shope of Robbinsville, N.C.; three
grandchildren, Allan
Bridges, Gina Brown and her husband, Robby and Christy Foster; and one
great
grandson, Brandon Brown.
Services
were held Sunday, November 2nd at 2 p.m. from New
Union Baptist Church. The Rev. Harrison
Bradley and Rev. Hughes Chatham officiated.
The eulogy was presented by Lydia Jackson Sartain.

Edna Lanell Schrimshire Weatherford Williams, age 76, of Blairsville,

Mrs.
Helen Minnie Lexen, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Friday,
November 14, 1997 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Lexen was born in Redding, (Fairfield County)
Connecticut, on May 1, 1909m a daughter of the late Oliver C. Banks and
Edith
G. Davis Banks. She had been living in
this area since 1991, coming here from Miami, Florida.
Mrs. Lexen was retired from Southern New
England Telephone Company. She lived in
Wilton Connecticut for approximately 60 years.
She was the widow of the late Eugene E. Lexen.
Surviving
are her son, E.L. Flewwellin, of Wakefield, RI; son, R.C. Flewwellin,
of
Campbellsville, KY; and daughter, Mrs., James O. Willig, of
Blairsville, GA;
sister Elsa B. Shimers, of Long Beach, CA; 12 grandchildren, 22 great
grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild also survive.
Memorial
services will be held at a later date in Connecticut.
