Mrs. Frances B. Steward Copp, age 66, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Rangeley, Maine, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2002.

Mrs. Copp was born in Franklin County, Maine, on Tuesday, March 31, 1936, a daughter of the late Alton and Hermia Ellis Steward.  Mrs. Copp graduated from Rangeley High School in 1954, then became a licensed practical nurse, with a degree in administration.  She retired from Clipper Affiliates of New Hampshire in 1991.  Mrs. Copp was a member of The Church of The Good Shepherd in Rangeley, Maine.  Eleven years ago, she moved to Blairsville, Georgia, where she was an active member of the Blue Ridge Mountain Fitness Center, and had been employed by Clay County Care Center in Hayesville, North Carolina.

Survivors include her loving husband, of 48 years, David A. Copp, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and James Buchanan of North Hampton, New Hampshire; son and daughter-in-law, Mikal and Lee Copp of Berwick Maine; sister, Mary Lyn “Mickey” Field of Blairsville, and a brother; Nathaniel “Ally” Steward of Lowell, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Keith Buchanan and his wife Sara of Epping, New Hampshire; Ryan Buchanan of North Hampton, new Hampshire; Jessica Copp and Sean Copp of Berwick Maine; many other nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2002, at 4 p.m., from Evergreen Cemetery in Rangeley, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials be made to the Georgia Mountain Hospice, P.O. Box 580, Jasper, GA 30143.

mary elizabeth kitchens brown

 

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Kitchens Brown, age 98, of Spring Creek Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Brown was born on Feb. 3, 1904 in Walker County, GA, the daughter of the late Wylie Kitchens and the late Edith Avery Kitchens.  She had worked at the Warner Robbins Air Force Base for several years before her retirement.  She was preceded in death by a son, Terrell Brown in 1992.  Mrs. Brown was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Brown are one daughter in law, Betty June Brown Hubbard of Blairsville; four grandchildren, Terrell Brunson Brown III of Blairsville, Flowice Miller of Gainesville, Buck Brown of Westminister, SC, Linda Faye Carter of Blairsville; one great granddaughter, Christie Johnson and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating.  Special music was presented by Hubert and Betty Legg.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

ervelene everett hedden

 

Mrs. Ervelene Everett Hedden, age 75, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Hedden was born in Union County, Georgia, on Wednesday, June 29, 1927, a daughter of the late Ervin Everett and the late Hattie Satterfield Everett.  She was a homemaker and member of Youngstown Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Michael Potts, of Blairsville; and Judy and Danny Hemphill, also of Blairsville; sister: Roberta Drake, of Blairsville; four brothers: McArthur Everett, Herbert Everett, Lloyd Everett, and Edward Everett, all of Blairsville; grandchildren: Chasity Hemphill Cochran, Gerald Potts, and Jeffrey Potts; great grandchildren: Kevin Potts and Zachary Potts.  Many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at 2:00 pm, from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Jonathan Hood, Rev. Leon Henderson, and Rev. Horace Potts officiating.  Special music will be by Russell Legg, Shirley Grizzle, and Rev. Jack Cochran.  The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Jackie Adams, Lonnie Wright, Arlin Worley, Ned Wilcoxon, Keith Brewer, and Howard Brys.  Interment will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Monday, November 18, 2002, after 6 pm.

albert james mclaughlin

 

Mr. Albert James McLaughlin, age 77, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at his home.

Mr. McLaughlin was born Saturday, August 29, 1925, in Dade County, Florida.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and served during World War II in the European Theatre.  Mr. McLaughlin was a policeman with the City of Miami for 30 years, retiring as a major.  He was a member of The Fraternal Order of Police.  He and his wife moved to Blairsville in February of 2002, from Estero, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of their home; two sons: James Kenneth McLaughlin of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Gary Steven McLaughlin, of Piedmont, South Carolina; two daughters: Lori Ann McKellar, of Gainesville, Georgia, and Deborah Lynn Spiegel, of Hiawassee, Georgia; brother, Owen Arthur McLaughlin, of Washington State; Eleven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Graveside services were held Friday, November 15, 2002, at 1:00 pm, from Laurel Hills Memory Gardens in Hiawassee, Georgia, with Rev. Danny Burch officiating.

Kevin lee thigpen

 

Kevin Lee Thigpen, 37, of Blairsville, GA died Saturday, November 16, 2002.  He is survived by his wife Jan; daughter Mary Catherine; father Clarence Thigpen of Tucker, GA; brothers, Fred Thigpen of Warrenton, GA and Glenn Thigpen of Jaffrey, NH.

A memorial service will be held at Tim Stewart Funeral Home in Lawrence, GA.
