Mrs.
Doris A. Kirkendall, age 86, of Blairsville, formerly of Troutman, NC,
died
Friday, November 16, 2012 at Union General Hospital following an
extended
illness. Mrs. Kirkendall had been a resident of Blairsville for five
years. She
was of the Methodist faith.
Mrs. Kirkendall was born October 6, 1926 in Roanoke, VA to the late
O.M. Altis
and Dora Catherine Altis Alexander. She was, also, preceded in death by
her
husband, Judson, W. Kirkendall.
Mrs. Kirkendall is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and
Wayne
Hamilton of Blairsville, grandchildren, Bill Hamilton and Denise and
Dixie
Hamilton Baker and Mike all of Cumming, GA. Mrs. Kirkendall had four
great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly: Spencer, Hanna, Will and
Avery.
Also surviving are step-brothers, Harvey (Monie) and Clyde Alexander of
Charlotte, NC and special friends, Wilma Price, PJ Bass and Breanne
Marie Bass,
her namesake, of Mooresville, NC. Her life long friend, Gladys Dixon of
Shelby,
NC and three cousins, also, survive her: Joyce, Helen and Violet in VA
and
other friends and relatives.
Mrs. Kirkendall worked hard well into her seventies. She provided for
her
family by working in a textile mill and later, cooking in restaurants,
a job
she enjoyed. She was known for her cooking, mostly cakes and pies which
she donated
to bake sales, gave to friends and family, or sold to restaurants. She
also had
a beautiful alto singing voice and sang in the church choir for many
years. Her
favorite hymn was “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Mrs. Kirkendall’s greatest achievement was when she got her license in
Cosmetology in the early 1970s and briefly had a shop in her home until
moving
to Troutman, NC where she, with her husband, managed a campground on
Lake
Norman, some of the happiest times of her life.
Graveside services were held Saturday, November 24 at 2 p.m. at Sunset
Cemetery
in Shelby, NC. The family received friends at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home
in
Shelby from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday.
Interment was
in Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, NC. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, the
family
request that donations be made to Mrs. Kirkendall’s favorite charity,
St. Jude

Sarah Maye (Thomas) Coward, age 74
of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 following a
period of
declining health. She was born to the late Riley and Bessie (Edwards)
Thomas on
May 12, 1938 in Blairsville, GA. She is preceded in death by her
parents; two
daughters, Dianna Maney and Metilda Coward; sons, Marty Maney and Jerry
Coward;
brother, Cecil Thomas; sisters, Annie Ruth Arrowood and Francis Woods.
She is
survived by daughters, Alisa Ann Ramsey, of Hiawassee, GA; Teresa Maye
Lance,
of Hiawassee, GA; sons, Gene Travis Coward, of Hiawassee, GA; James
Michael
Coward, of Hiawassee, GA; brother, Douglas Maney, of Blairsville, GA;
nine
grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held
on
Sunday, November 18, 2012 at 3PM from the chapel of Banister Funeral
Home with
Rev. Mike Stewart officiating. Pallbearers were: James Coward,
Elizabeth
Coward, Jason Thomas, Steven Crisp, Michael Cosgrow and Doc Thomas.
Interment was
in Burch cemetery. Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of
arrangements.

Mrs. Brenda Lee Lynch,
age 67, of Blairsville passed away Friday, November 16, 2012 at Union
General
Hospital following an extended illness. She was born December 9, 1944
in
Detroit, MI. Mrs. Lynch was preceded in death by her father, James
Payne,
daughter, Tammy Renee Lynch, step-son, Jimmy Lynch, sister, Linda
Beavers,
brother, David Payne, grandsons, Timothy Lynch and Daniel Lynch,
granddaughter,
Tammy Grace Lynch. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
She
is survived by her husband, Roy Lynch, Jr. of Blairsville, mother Doris
Payne
Murphy of Blairsville, son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Robin Lynch of
Blairsville, step-son and daughter-in-law, Roy E. and Lisa Lynch of
Blairsville, step-daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and George Passmore
of
Hawaii, sisters, Carol Gray and Michelle Webb both of Blairsville,
brothers,
Danny Payne and Johnny Payne both of Blairsville, eight grandchildren
and
several great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at
Mountain
View Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Richard Helms officiating. Music
will be
by Michelle Webb and Kelsey Lockaby. Pallbearers will be Jason Webb,
Danny
Gray, Eric Gray, Robert Gray, Thomas Passmore and Jacob Lynch. Honorary
pallbearers will be Chris, J.J. Lynch and Cody Beavers. Interment will
follow
in Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family
request that
donations be made in Brenda’s name to help defray medical and funeral
cost. The
family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 4
until 8
p.m.

Mrs. Mary Geraldine
Ringland, age 102, of Wesley Mtn. Dr., Blairsville passed away Tuesday,
November 13, 2012 at Union County Nursing Home following a brief
illness. She
was born September 26, 1910 to the late Joseph and Johanna North Wolf.
Mrs.
Ringland has lived in this area since 1989. Mrs. Ringland was preceded
in death
by her husband, John Ringland. She was a member of St. Francis of
Assisi
Catholic Church.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Patricia Nolan
of
Huntertown, IN, one granddaughter, Jo Hanna and Kyle rose.
Memorial services were held Friday, November 16, 2012 at St. Francis of
Assisi
Catholic Church with Father Liem Nguyen officiating. Music was by Ron
Gaucher.
Interment was in St. Clair’s Columbarium at St. Francis of Assisi. The
family
will receive friends in the Vestibule of the church from 9 until 10
a.m. just
prior to the service.

Mr. Ernest Ray Harris,
age 79, of Sharp Top Circle, Blairsville passed away Friday, November
16, 2012
at his home following and extended illness. He was born in Ranger, NC
to the
late George and Ida Clark Harris. Mr. Harris was a U.S. Army Korean
veteran. He
move to this area 10 years ago from Conyers, GA. He was a loving
husband,
father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Harris loved
fishing
and his dog Andy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Harris,
sisters,
Althie Kilpatrick, Thelma Chastain, Adell Brown and Roselle Chastain.
Mr.
Harris was a member of Youngcane Masonic Lodge F & AM and a member
of
Revival Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Wilma Harris of the home, children, Linda
and Clevie
Brown of Blairsville, GA and Rex and Constance Harris of Blue Ridge,
GA,
sister, Vestie Lancaster of Gastonia, NC, brothers, Roy and Jean Harris
of
Madisonville, TN, and Bill and Estelle Harris of Gastonia, NC, seven
grandchildren, Justin Rex Harris of Conyers, GA, Evan Asbury of Blue
Ridge, GA,
Jamie Webb of Whitesburg, GA, Richie Brown of Acworth, GA, Sgt. Chris
Payne of
Columbus, GA, Julie Payne of Jasper, GA and Ashley Martin of Ellijay,
GA, four
great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 18, 2012 at 2 p.m. from
Mountain
View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Seay and Rev. Allen Harris
officiating. Music was by Rev. Tommy Seay, and Tim Renshaw and family.

Abercrombie,

Mrs.
Jeanette Townsend Vest, age 71, of River Rd.,
Blairsville passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 at her home following
an
extended illness. She was born in Blairsville on December 8, 1940 to
the late
James A. and Elizabeth Stephens Townsend. Jeanette had worked as a
beautician,
and she loved Gospel and Country Singing, playing guitar and harmonica.
She
loved everyone. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband Roger
Vest who
passed away August 26, 2012, brothers, Clifford, Bill, Rod and Odell
Townsend,
sisters, Sarah Roberts and Margie Butt, and a son, Jeffrey Cable. She
was a
member of Zebulon Baptist Church.
Survivors
include son and daughter-in-law, Tim and
Wen Cable of Vancover, Canada, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and
Tim Mulkey
of Young Harris, GA, sisters, Betty and Max Orr of Gainesville, GA and
Grapelle
Thompson of Winder, GA, brother, Tom and Joann Townsend of Cumming, GA,
four
grandchildren, Nicholas and Sunny Mulkey, Joshua Mulkey, Casey Mulkey
and
Prescott Townsend Cable, one great grandchild, Taylor Mulkey, several
nieces,
nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, November 15,
at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Potts and
Rev.
Waymon Lovell officiating. Music was be by a special niece, Teresa
Hurst.
Pallbearers were Dow Hurst, John McKenn, Tim Cable, Gerald Townsend,
Johnny
Carroll and Kyle Whitmire. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Townsend, John
Nix,
Steve Orr, Bobby Saxon, Ferrell Saxon, Lewis Saxon and Mike Townsend.
Interment
followed in Union Memory Gardens. The family received friends at the
funeral
home Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m.

william thomas "tommy" crawford, jr.
Mr. William Thomas “Tommy”
Crawford, Jr., age 74, of Gum Log Rd, Blairsville went home to be with
the Lord
on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Union General Hospital following an
extended
illness. He was born in Atlanta, GA May 1, 1938 to the late William
Thomas and
Mary Nell Harris Crawford. Tommy was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force
and Navy.
He loved cooking and fellowshipping with his friends and was known for
having
made the "best Brunswick stew" around. He also enjoyed woodworking,
hunting and fishing and watching the Atlanta Braves. He was a loving
husband,
father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by brothers,
Olen
Crawford, J.B. Crawford, Melburne Crawford and Robert Carroll Crawford,
sisters, Louise Lawrence, Vallie Martin, Helen Laning, Mamie Pirkle and
Mary
Will Owensby, and his son Jeff Crawford in 1989. Tommy had been a
resident of
Union County for the past 45 years and was a member of Revival Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his wife, of 49 years, Marvine Crawford of the home,
children, Paige and Kenny Wade of Blairsville, GA, Lano and James
Ledford of
Lilburn, GA, Ona and Tommy Huskey of Bryson City, NC and "Little" Tom
Crawford of Blairsville, GA, sister, Peggy Goode of Smyrna, GA,
brothers, Jack
and Betty Elrod of Goldsborough, NC, Dwight and Brenda Crawford of
Powder
Springs, GA and Phillip and Chee Chee Crawford of Douglasville, GA,
seven
grandchildren, McKenzie Wade, Kyle Wade, Tyler Huskey, Trent Huskey,

Ledford, Cole Ledford and Kel Crawford.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 1 p.m. at

Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Seay and Rev. Phillip Crawford

Mr. Randy Curtiss
Fisher, age 60, of Ivy Log Rd., Blairsville passed away Wednesday,
November 14,
2012 at his home following an extended illness. He was born September
24, 1952
in Asheville, NC to the late James H. and Ruby Sizemore Fisher. Randy
moved
here from Stockbridge, GA. He was a U.S. Marine Vietnam veteran. He
loved the
mountains and his dog “Ellie Mae”. Randy never was the Cadillac kind.
He was
preceded in death by his wife, Cecilia Ann fisher in 2010,
brothers-in-law,
Joel W. Wilson, Jerry Roy Childers and Andrew Wallace Yeomans, nephew,
Yogi
Andrew Yeomans. Randy was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Curtis Fisher, Jr. and Jerry Childers
both of
Rex, GA, sisters, Sherry Bagwell and Barbara Wilson both of
Blairsville, GA,
best friends, Bill Durham of Soddy Daisy, TN and Robert Bledsoe of
Dunlap, TN,
grandson, James Andrew Fisher.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers make

Mr. James
Michael Postell age 56 of Paige Little
Rd., Blairsville formerly of Andrews, passed away peacefully on Monday
November
12, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Postell was
born on
September 17, 1956 in Andrews, NC, the son of Juanita Hicks Postell and
the
late Rev. Ralph Dee Postell. Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a
loving
companion, son and brother. Mr. Postell was a member of Aquone Baptist
Church.
Surviving
Mr. Postell are his loving companion of
over thirty years, Janie Little of Blairsville, three brothers and
sisters-in-law,
Alan and Rosealee Postell of Andrews, Richard and Evelyn Postell of
Murphy,
Rev. Jimmy and Cindi Postell of Andrews, three sisters and
brothers-in-law,
Barbara and Wayne Baine of Murphy, Rebecca and Vader Campbell of
Robinsville,
Marilyn and Wayne Amos of Murphy, several nieces, nephews, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Wednesday Nov. 14,
2012 at 3 p.m. from Red Marble Baptist Church with the Rev. Luther
Townson,
Rev. Ralph Barnard and Rev. Mickey Stewart officiating. Special music
was
presented by Walking By Faith Singers. The following gentleman served
as
pallbearers: James Hooper, Tony Campbell, Greg Amos, Travis Postell,
Scott,
Chris, Adam and Johnny Postell. Serving as honorary pallbearers were
Kevin and
Travis Stalcup. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family
met with
friends at Red Marble Baptist Church on Tuesday evening from 5-8pm.

Mrs.
Maggie Virginia Timmons, age 89, of
Treetop Lane, Blairsville, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 at
Stonehenge following an extended illness.
Mrs. Timmons was born on April 18, 1923 in Millport, AL, the
daughter of
the late temple Shelton and the late Bessie Wharton Shelton. Mrs. Timmons enjoyed reading needle point,
walking and gardening. She was a loving
mother, sister, and grandmother. Mrs.
Timmons was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Timmons are one
daughter and son-in-law, Stana and Steve Goines of Blairsville, one
sister,
Daisy Lee Davidson of Birmingham, AL, two grandchildren, Jordan and
Lindsay
Haggerty, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A graveside service will be held on
Wednesday November 21, 2012 at 4 p.m. from the Forest Lawn Cemetery. In Panama City, FL. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family

memory of
Mrs. Timmons.
