theodore “wade” evans

 

Mr. Theodore “Wade” Evans, age 77, of Suches, GA, who after an extended illness, died Wednesday, November 17th, 2004, in his home surrounded by family and close friends, as he had wished.

Born and raised in Reliance, TN, Evans had been living and farming at his current home in the Sheenah district since the early 1960’s, where he and his wife Nell raised various crops and livestock.  Wade and Nell shared a love of each other, their children and grandchildren, and the outdoors.  Evans will long be remembered in his community as a good and caring neighbor who was always ready with a helping hand-tractor or tool- when a project needed to be done.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife Nellie Armstrong Evans, two infant children, grandson Tim Garland and his parents, Theodore Roosevelt Evans and Ethel Evans.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth Dean Evans; daughter-in-law, Donna Evans; granddaughters Sara and Vicky of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Quadena Evans of Beckley, WV; daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn Garland of Suches and Loucrecia and Elmer Hughes of Isabella, TN; eight other grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted on Friday, November 19, 2004 at 10 a.m. from the Sugar Hill Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Garrett officiating.  Music was by Sherry Woodham.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regency Hospice of Hiawassee, PO Box 494, Hiawassee, GA 30546, the American Caner Society, 300 E. Emery St., Suite 106, Dalton, GA 30720, or the National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Englewood, Co.

james kevin beavers

 

Mr. James Kevin Beavers, age 43, of East Culberson Road, Blairsville passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2004 in Dalton following an extended illness.  Mr. Beavers was born on October 18, 1961 in Cherokee County, NC, the son of the late Hancel Beavers and the late Viola Forrister Beavers.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County.  Mr. Beavers was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Beavers are four sisters and three brothers-in-law; Ann and Melvin Dyer of Dalton, Mary Lou Drake of Blairsville, Lethie and Harold Hedrick of Dalton, Patsy and Clarence Stewart of Blairsville; an aunt, Dorothy Morgan of Murphy; eleven nieces and nephews, eighteen great nieces and nephews, one special great niece, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 22, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Mashburn officiating.  Special music was presented by the Mashburn family.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Lon Pendergrass, David Rhodes, Nick Taylor, Matt Taylor, Shane Pendergrass, Bill Stewart, Joey Taylor and Dakota Stamey.  Interment followed in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. oliver edward ports

 

Mr. Oliver Edward Ports, age 80, of Coosa Valley Road, Blairsville passed away on Monday, November 15, 2004 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Ports was born on June 17, 1924 in Hamilton, MD, the son of the late Walter Ports, Sr., and the late Mary Morissette Ports.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army of WWII.  He was a member of the Elks Club.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cherie Ann Ports in 1979.  Mr. Ports was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Surviving Mr. Ports are his loving wife of fifty-six years, Roberta Gamache Ports of Blairsville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Babette and Charles Wedler of Colorado Springs, CO, Terri and Thomas Gick of McClean, VA, one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Lisa Gamache, New City, NY, three grandchildren, Alyssa Wedler and Charles Wedler of Colorado Springs, CO, Jessica Gick of McClean, VA, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, November 19, 2004 at 11 a.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Richard Wise officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Charles Wedler, Sr., Philip Gamache, Robert Gamache, Kenneth Gamache, Charles Wedler, Jr., William Treschel, and Thomas Gick.  Interment followed in the Union Memory gardens Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors.

mrs. dimple jones duckworth rowell

 

Mrs. Dimple Jones Duckworth Rowell, age 75, of Fair View Trail, Blairsville, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2004 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.  Mrs. Rowell was born on December 12, 1928 in Union County, the daughter of the late Henry Jones and the late Lissie Hall Jones.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Duckworth in 2000.  Mrs. Rowell was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Rowell are her loving husband of 25 years, Charles Yon, Jr. of Blairsville, two daughters, Vessie Caraballo and Kathy Burrell, both of Cartersville, six sons, Roy Duckworth of FL, Edgar, Tommy, Robert, Gordon and Jerry Duckworth all of Blairsville, one sister, Ina Gribble of Blue Ridge, one brother, Johnny Jones of Morganton, sixteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles Neal and Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating.  Special music was presented by Larry Nichols.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Larry Nichols, Mack Duckworth, Matthew Thomas, Jack Carpenter, Frank Deloach, Charles Neal, Tommy Queen and Chris Queen.  Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Baptist church Cemetery.

mr. howard earl frix

 

Mr. Howard Earl Frix, age 77, of Garrett Road, Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Frix was born on October 15, 1927 in Chattanooga, TN, the son of the late Roy Howard Frix and the late Generale Estell Woolfe Frix.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy of WWII and was a member of the Cordele Masonic Lodge and also a member of the Cordele Lions Club.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susanne Frix in 1998.  Mr. Frix was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Frix are his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Gene Putnam Frix of Blairsville, one daughter, Karen Faircloth of Canton, GA, one son and daughter-in-law, Roy Howard (Howie) II and Brigette Frix of Silvester, GA, three grandchildren, Steve and wife Julie Garrison of Canton, Nathan Faircloth of Cordele, Matthew Frix of Silvester, two great grandchildren, Hannah and Leah Garrison, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Friday, November 19, 2004 at 1 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. George Cline and Rev. Brian Horton officiating.  Special music was presented by the Jubilee Choir and Tammy Blassingame.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Family Life Center in Mr. Frix’s memory.
