dorothy marie howard patterson
Dorothy
Marie Howard Patterson, age 55, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at her home.
Mrs.
Patterson was
born in Acworth, Georgia, on Wednesday, August 17, 1955, a daughter of
the late
Odell Howard and Rose Petty Howard. She
was a manager at a metal roofing company, and had attended Grace
Baptist Church
in Hayesville, North Carolina. Her
father, Odell Howard, preceded her in death.
Surviving family members include her
husband, Jimmy Patterson, of Blairsville; her mother, Rosie Howard, of
Kennesaw, Georgia; two children: Cynthia Lee Slinker, of Edmonton,
Kentucky,
and Vern Millwood, of Cartersville, Georgia; siblings: James Howard of
Acworth,
Georgia; Jimmy Howard, of Felton, Georgia; Sandy Simmons, of South
Carolina;
Sarah Millwood, of Kennesaw; Judy Degnan of Jasper, Georgia; and Marie
Fowler,
of Michigan; two grandchildren, Katelyn Shiver and Michael Millwood.
Memorial services were held Saturday,
November 20, 2010, at 10 a.m., at Faith Baptist church in Blairsville,
with
Rev. Wayne Matheson officiating.

Mr.
Charles David Burford age 70 of Spring
Cove Rd., Blairsville passed away on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 at his home
following an extended illness. Mr. Burford
was born on Oct. 26, 1940 in Charleston, WV, the son of the late
Eldridge Waldo
Burford and the late Barbara Ruth Bliven Burford. He
grew up in Marietta and graduated Marietta
High School in 1958. He was a dedicated
Scout Master and Regional Director of the Boy Scouts, and a veteran of
the US
Navy serving in the Mediterranean and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. David served as a Mediator for the State of
New
Jersey. He was a loving husband, father,
brother and grandfather and was a friend to many. David
was a member of Grace Presbyterian
Church.
Surviving David are his loving wife
of forty-six years, Deborah Hill Burford of Blairsville, three sons and
one
daughter-in-law, Chuck Burford of Phoenix, AZ, Erik and Stacey Burford
of
Chicago, IL, Jason Burford of Bridgewater, NJ, one brother, John
Burford of
Jacksonville, FL, five grandchildren, Bailey and Anna Burford, Ford,
Ryder and
Weston Kern.
He will always be remembered for his
lively sense of humor and gentle nature.
He is sorely missed by friends and family alike.
A
memorial service
was held on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at 12 p.m. from the Grace
Presbyterian Church
with the Rev. Jon Jacobs officiating.
Special music was presented by the Grace Presbyterian Church
Choir, with
a special arrangement of “Amazing Grace,” David’s favorite hymn, played
by Miss
Melissa Moody. The family met with
friends following the services. In lieu
of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made
to
Regency Hospice of Hiawassee in David’s memory.

Mr.
Ronald Ray Van Pelt, St., age 76 of
Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, November 18,2 010 at his home.
Mr. Van
Pelt was
born in Jacksonville, FL to the late Arthur and Annie (Huffington) Van
Pelt. He moved to Blairsville 8 years ago
from
Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Van Pelt was a
member of First Baptist Church Of (sic) Blairsville, Gideons
International and
a U.S. Navy Veteran. He retired from the
Duval County School system with 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by son, Ronald Ray
Van Pelt Jr. in September of 2007.
Survivors include: his wife, Joann
L. Van Pelt of the home, son and daughter-in-law, Charles Eric and
Christina
Van Pelt of Peru, South America where they serve as missionaries,
sisters,
Betty V. Schroeder and Sarah Higley and brothers, Arthur Van Pelt and
George
Van Pelt all of Jacksonville, FL, grandchildren, Joanna, Matthew, and
David.
Graveside services were held Monday,
November 22, 2010 at 12 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in
Canton, GA
with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating.

Mrs.
Eunice Alice Smith age 89 of Rocky
Circle, Blairsville formerly of Silver City, NM, passed away on
Thursday, Nov.
18,2 010 at Stonehenge following an extended illness.
Mrs. Smith was born on July 10, 1921 in
Suffern, NY, the daughter of the late Elmer Blauvelt and the late Elsa
Heinzel
Mann Blauvelt. She was a veteran of the
US Marines of WWII and also the Korean War.
She retired from the State Department in 1978 after over
twenty-three
years of service. She was a loving
mother, sister and grandmother. Eunice
was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lee Smith in 2003. Mrs. Smith was a member of All Saints
Lutheran Church.
Surviving Mrs. Smith are one step
son, Stephen and Tamye Smith of Los Crusis, NM, two sisters and one
brother-in-law, Magdelene and Ed Combs of Blairsville, Louise Rotondo
of San
Jacinto, CA, one brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Sharon Blauvelt
of
Cottonwood, AZ, two grandchildren, Issac Cody Smith and Julia Selby
Smith, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday,
Nov. 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the Ft. Bayard National Cemetery in Ft.
Bayard,
NM with full military honors presented by the American Legion Post #18. She will rest next to her husband Joseph who
was also a veteran. Services locally will
be held at a later date and will be announced.

of Mrs. Smith.

Mrs.
Agnes Berle Moore age 92 of Fern Valley
Lane, Blairsville passed away on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 at her home
following an
extended illness. Mrs. Moore was born on
August 10, 1918 in MA, the daughter of the late Ralph Robinson and the
late
Lora Scarborough. Agnes was a resident
of Blairsville for the last nine years, having moved here from Tamarol,
FL. She loved her church and enjoyed
spending time with her grandchildren.
She was also fond of crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Moore, her
son Gerald
Moore, her daughter Rosa Lee Moore and her daughter-in-law Wanda Moore. Mrs. Moore was of the Christian faith.
Surviving Mrs. Moore are seven
grandchildren, John and Erin Moore of Blairsville, Barbara Mercado of
Boca
Raton, FL, Tim and Stacie Moore of Hiawassee, Ralph Moore of VA, Tamara
Moore
of West Palm Beach, FL and Matthew Moore of Hollywood, FL; eleven great
grandchildren and a daughter-in-law Norma Tenney of Hollywood, FL.
No services are planned at this
time. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the

Mrs.
Lillie Ann Warren age 82 of Tanner Rd.,
Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 210 at her home
following a
brief illness. Mrs. Warren was born on
Dec. 26, 1927 in Cleveland, GA, the daughter of the late Jake Helton
and the
late Alice Seabolt Helton. She was a
lifelong resident of Union County. She
was a loving mother and grandmother and was a friend to many. She was preceded in death by six brothers,
Hershel, Gus, Wiley, Roy, Harley and Alec, also by two sisters, Inda
Evans and
Vadie Helton. Mrs. Warren was a member
of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Warren are one son,
Bobby Warren of Blairsville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and
Billy Nix
of Blairsville, Susie and Riley Bright of Warne, NC, nine
grandchildren, David
Bright, Jackie Myers, Lisa Bright, Tim and Richard Nix, Michael, Tylor,
Christina and Dustin Warren, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral services were held on Friday,
Nov. 18, 2010 at 1 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Tim
Hyde officiating. The following gentlemen
served as
pallbearers, Tim and Richard Nix, Larry Helton, Michael, Tylor and
Dustin
Warren. Interment followed in the Mt.
Pleasant
Baptist Church Cemetery. The family met
with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs.
Melissa Louise Tanner age 50 of Rogers
Rd., Blairsville passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010 in the Erlanger
Medical
Center following a brief illness. Mrs.
Tanner
was born on Sept. 6, 1970 in Copperhill, TN, the daughter of Jimmy
Abercrombie
and Peggy Doris Dilbeck Abercrombie.
Melissa loved watching her son Brady play ball and just being
with her
family and friends. She was a very
loving wife, mother, sister and aunt and was a friend to many. Melissa was a member of Bethlehem Baptist
Church.
Surviving Melissa are loving husband
of nineteen years, Richard Tanner of Blairsville, one son, Brady Tanner
of
Blairsville, father, Jimmy Abercrombie of Blairsville, mother, Peggy
Abercrombie of Blairsville, one sister, Candy Colwell of Blairsville,
two
brothers and sisters-in-law, Stevie and Melissa Abercrombie of
Blairsville, Jim
and Brenda Abercrombie of Blairsville, nieces and nephews, Megan
Colwell,
Jessica, Daniel and Aaron Abercrombie and April Seabolt, great nieces
and
nephews, Jaycee, Peyton, Austin and Logan, several cousins, many other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on
Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel with
the Rev.
Don Hood, Rev. Wade Plott and Rev. Ray Potts officiating.
Special music was presented by the Bethlehem
Baptist Church Choir. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Daniel, Aaron and Robbie Abercrombie,
Dwight
and Tim Dilbeck and Jason Seabolt.
