Mrs.
Ezra Mattox Davenport, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away
Monday,
November 16, 1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville, following
an
extended illness. Mrs. Davenport was
born in Lawrence County, Alabama, on Thursday, October 7, 1915, a daughter of the late Gordon Owen Mattox and Ada
Lee Hampton
Mattox. She moved to Blairsville 52
years ago, from Chardon, Ohio. Mrs.
Davenport was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, and the Order of the
Eastern
Star. Mrs. Davenport was a cast member
of “The Reach of Song”, Georgia’s historic state drama, of life in the
mountains of North Georgia. She was also
a member of AARP, and Women’s Club. Mrs.
Davenport was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Davenport, in
1975 and
her son Ron Davenport, in 1994.
Surviving are:
son, Rick Davenport, of Blairsville; daughter and son in law, Sandy and
John
Payton, of Atlanta; sister, Vetron Wilmont, of Fort Myers, FL, and
brother,
Wendell Mattox, of Mobile, AL; granddaughters and their husbands, Jill
and
David Turner, of Vila Rice, GA; Ginger and Rod Carey, of Blairsville,
Missy and
Jason Waldroup, of Morristown, TN; and granddaughter, Heather
Davenport, of
Blairsville; great granddaughter Savannah Carey, of Blairsville; nieces
and
nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, November 18, 1998 at
11 a.m. from Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Leatherwood and
Rev. Ralph
Easterwood officiating. Special music
was presented by The Convention Singing Class.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Roy Wilmot, Wayne
Roberts, Troy Phillips, Jack Devereaux, Steve
Colwell. The following served as
honorary escort to the family: Ralph Gilreath, Jack Byers, Bud Cook,
Leon
Davenport, Burt Conley, and Lanier Davenport; “Reach of Song” cast
members, and
Lela Metealf. Interment was in Union
memory gardens Cemetery. Cochran Funeral
Home in charge of arrangements.

Minnie
Floyd, age 85, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, November
17, 1998
at her residence. She was a native and
lifelong resident of Union County, Georgia and the daughter of the late
Alma
Jackson Teague and the wife of the late T.A. Floyd, who died October
16,
1986. She was a member of the Antioch
Baptist Church.
Surviving
are a son, Jim Floyd of Blairsville, GA; two step daughters, Verna
Puett of Blairsville,
GA and Joann Ricketts of Royal Oaks, MI; four step sons, Andrew Floyd
of
Charleston, SC, and Willard, Kenneth, and T.A. Floyd Jr. all of
Blairsville;
and uncle, George Jackson of Blairsville and 15 step grandchildren and
several
step great grandchildren.
