Mr. John G. Traina, age 95, of Kelly Circle in Blairsville, GA., formerly of Tampa, Fl., passed away on Monday, November 17, 2003 in the union general Hospital following an extended illness.Mr. Traina was born on March 1, 1908 in Tampa, FL., the son of the late Anthony Traina and the late Rosalie Greco Traina.He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force of WWII.Mr. Traina was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are his loving wife of sixty three years, Jennie Centinaro Traina, of Blairsville; two daughters and son-in-laws, Linda and Dennis Lopez of Blairsville, Rose Ann and Bob Buning of Homosassa Springs, Fl; one sister and brother-in-law, Lilly and Lewis Marchetta of Tampa; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Joe and Grace Traina, Tony Traina, all of Tampa; three grandchildren, Dennis Lopez, Jr., Jennifer Lopez Walts and David Buning; two great grandchildren, Jake and BeBe Walts; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Special Olympics in Mr. Trainaís memory.

Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville in was charge of the arrangements.

MR. richard Oliver maier

 

Mr. Richard Oliver Maier, age 51 of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Friday, November 14, 2003 in St. Josephís Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Maier was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, February 19, 1952, a son of the late Oliver Edward Maier, Jr. and Kathrin Pinkerton Maier.He was a housing construction contractor and had been living in Blairsville for the past 20 years.Previous residences include Dawsonville Georgia and Winter Park, Florida.He was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving are his companion, Nina King of Blairsville; his mother, Kathrin Maier of Blairsville; children: Jason Richard Maier and Jesse Oliver Maier, both of Blairsville; Erika Jean Maier of Woodstock, Georgia; Audra Leigh Maier and Tonya King, both of Blairsville; brother, Larry Maier of Blairsville; many other relatives and many friends also survive.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville.

If you wish, memorial contributions may be made to a fund established at United Community Bank of Blairsville in Richardís memory.This fund will help the family with medical expenses.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

MRs. gertie novella ownbey

 

Mrs. Gertie Novella Ownbey, age 75 of the Murphy Hwy., Blairsville passed away Monday, November 17, 2003 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.

Mrs. Ownbey was born on August 17, 1928 in Union County, the daughter of the late Henry Beaver and the late Bertha Weaver Beaver.She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Ownbey in 1993.Mrs. Ownbey attended Ivy Log Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Ownbey are two daughters and on son-in-law, Shirley and David Collins of Blairsville, Linda Ownbey of Blairsville; three sisters, Vera Hall of Blairsville, Minnie Beaver and Ollar Dailey both of Ohio; three brothers, Elbert Beaver, Fred Beaver and Max Beaver all of Morganton; two grandchildren, Greta Collins of Blairsville, Greg Collins of Murphy; one great grandchild, David Collins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Luther Thomas officiating.Special music was presented by Rev. Luther Thomas.The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Rufus Everette, Greg Collins, Grover Tanner, Jonathan Nichols, Phil Nichols, and Kenneth Beaver.Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
