jewel bruce

 

Jewel Bruce, 72, of Old Skeenah Gap Road, Suches, died Oct. 29, 2002 at his home.  Born in Fannin County, he was the son of the late Norman and Marthenia Davenport Bruce.

Bruce worked as a heavy equipment operator, and was a member of Friendship #1 Baptist Church.  He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #926, and was preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters and a grandson Andrew Cole.

Survivors include his wife Eula M. Sue Bruce; daughters and sons-in-law Vicky and Edward Panter of Suches, Carolyn and Arvil Cole of Mineral Bluff, Debby and Denny Tanner of Blairsville, and Pauline and Edward Stamey of Suches; sister Hazel marks of Revanna, Ohio; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. from Friendship #1 Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Abernathy and the Rev. Mike England officiating.  Music was by the Friendship #1 Baptist Church Choir.

Pallbearers were James Panter, Jason Tanner and Steven Tanner, J.R. Carroll, Harold Payne and Kerry Marler.  Honorary escorts were John Brawley and Kenneth McClure.  Interment followed in the church cemetery,

frank jones

 

Mr. Frank Jones, age 87, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2002, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Jones was born in Blount County, Tennessee, on Sunday, February 14, 1915.  He had lived most of his life in this area, and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.  Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Duckworth Jones, and a daughter, Dessie Jones.

Survivors include sisters, Ina Gribble, of Blue Ridge, GA; Dimple Rowell of Blairsville, GA; Maxine Cook and Frances Vandiver, both of Gainesville; Brothers: Johnny Jones, of Morganton, GA, and Homer Jones of Cornelia, GA; several nieces and nephews and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at 11:00 am, from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Preachers Jeff Lockaby and Tommy Jones officiating.  Special music was presented by Luther Thomas.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Betty Foster, Keiter Foster, Jimmy Jones, Larry Jones, Bill Jones, and Wayne Everett.  Interment was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

nannie ree mashburn

 

Mrs. Nannie Ree Mashburn, age 76, of Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2002, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Mashburn was born in Union County, Georgia, on Friday, February 5, 1926, a daughter of the late Jess Bradley and Alma Ledford Bradley.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting.  Mrs. Mashburn was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, William Farris Mashburn, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, James Terry and Janice Mashburn, of Goose Creek, South Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Tommy Herendon, of Morganton, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Doug Webb, of Blairsville; daughter, Wilma Summerville, of Danielsville, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, J.C. and Evelyn Bradley, of Holly Springs, Georgia; granddaughters: Robin Webb, Ashley Smith, Audra Summerville; grandsons: Joshua Mashburn, Jeremy Herendon, Jonathan Mashburn, and William Summerville.  Many other nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at 11 am, from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Bryan Souther officiating.  Special music was presented by Vernon and Rachel Barnes.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jeremy Herendon, Jimmy Bradley, Dustin Smith, Milton Bradley, Dennis Bradley, and Kenneth Bradley.  Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

arthur robert cordeiro

 

Mr. Arthur Robert Cordeiro, age 78, of Wayne Tanner Drive, Blairsville, GA, formerly of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on Saturday Nov. 23, 2002 in the Chatuge Regional Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Cordeiro was born on Feb. 26, 1924 in Fall River, MA, the son of the late john Cordeiro and the late Mary Tavares Cordeiro.  He was a veteran of the US Army in WWII.  He was a deacon for over thirty years.

Surviving Mr. Cordeiro are his loving wife of forty three years, Carole Roddy Cordeiro of Blairsville; four daughters and two sons in law, Sarah Francine and James Williams of Winterhaven, FL, Nancy Cordeiro of Blairsville, Patricia Birge of Winterhaven, FL, Cheryl and Eric Fletcher of Ft. Pierce, FL; three sons and two daughters in law, Steve and Cheryl Skowronski of Peachtree City, GA, John Arthur Cordeiro of Blairsville, Ed and Sue Via of Dundalk, MD; three brothers, Ernest Cordeiro of MA, Richard Cordeiro of Portsmuth, RI, Raymond Cordeiro of Warrick, RI; fifteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at the First Church of God Church in Vero Beach, FL at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation in Mr. Cordeiro’s memory.
