MR. LEE ROY NICHOLS

 

Mr. Lee Roy Nichols age 79, of Stroud Road, Blairsville, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2001 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Nichols was born on July 3, 1922 in Union County, the son of the late Joe Nichols and the late Hettie Thomas Nichols.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of the Youngstown Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Nichols are his loving wife of fifty eight years, Juanita Thomas Nichols of Blairsville; one son, Ray Nichols of Blairsville; three daughters, Frances Sayles of Blairsville, Irene Turner of Lilburn, and Marsha Beaver of Blairsville; one sister, Vivian Lance of Blairsville; one brother, Quince Nichols of Roswell, GA; twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at 2 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Evan Hughes officiating.  Special music was presented by Harold Gladdson.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Arron Beaver, Tony Nichols, John Tuner, Trent Dyer, Trevor Dyer, and Darren Hughes.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

MR. JACK ALEXANDER PHILLIPS

 

Mr. Jack Alexander Phillips, age 72, of the Old Blue Ridge Hwy., Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Phillips was born on Dec. 23, 1928 in Towns County, the son of the late Robert (Bob) Phillips and the late Bonnie Alexander Phillips.  He was a lifelong resident of Union and Towns Counties and was a member of the Old Brasstown Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Phillips are three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Don and Betty Phillips of Dalton, pat and Susie Phillips of Blairsville, and Troy Phillips of Dalton; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Billy Stiles, Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Special music was presented by the Kelly Trio and Mary Ann Wright.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Robert Sosebee, Joe Reynolds, Ivan Phillips, Robby Phillips, Donny Phillips and Drew Phillips.  Interment followed in the Old Brasstown Baptist Cemetery.

MR. ERWIN W. EVERETT

 

Mr. Erwin W. Everett, age 96, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, November 19, 2001 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Everett was born in Union County, Georgia on Thursday, May 18, 1905, a son of the late Andrew Everett and Sara Seabolt Everett.  He was an auto body repairman.  Mr. Everett was a member of Youngstown Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hattie, in 1978, and second wife, Lucy, in 1989

Surviving are daughter, Ervelene Hedden, of Blairsville; son, Lloyd Everett, of Blairsville; daughter, Roberta Drake of Young Harris; sons Herbert Edward and McArthur Everett, all of Blairsville; two sisters, Bonnie Sutton of Calhoun, GA and Dimple Nelson of Blairsville; twenty grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at 2 pm from Zebulon Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Thomas, Rev. Randy Hughes, Rev. Tommy Jenkins, and Rev. Jonathan Hood officiating.  Special music was presented by The Zebulon Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ed Everett, Jr. Rex Everett, Ray Everett, Shane Everett, Gerald Potts, Jeff Potts, Herb Everett, and Dustin Elliott.  Interment was in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.

MRS. INEZ REECE LANCE

 

Mrs. Inez Reece Lance, age 85, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2001 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Lance was born in Union County, Georgia, on Friday January 11, 1916, a daughter of the late Eli Reece and Sallie Stephens Reece.  She was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in Union County.  Mrs. Lance was a member of Shady Grove Methodist Church, and was also a member of United Methodist Women.  Her husband, Elbert passed away in 1965.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Darlene and Eddie Walker of Albany, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Mildred Lance of Mt. Zion, GA; daughter, Rachael Reece of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Riley Jones of San Diego, CA; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Meg Lance of Chattanooga, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Dennis Colditz of Athens, GA; and son, David Lance of Blairsville; brother, Weldon Reece of Augusta, GA; sister, Florence Queen of Blairsville; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Bone and Rev. Dean Head officiating.  Specially selected music was presented by Mr. Scott Lance.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Douglas Queen, Eric Walker, Brad Hutson, J.E. Hutson, Richard Reece, and Bobby Lance.  Interment was in Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shady Grove Methodist Church and/or Cemetery Fund, of The American Cancer Society.

MRS. ANNIE LAURIE SMOOT

 

Mrs. Annie Laurie Smoot, age 94, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2001, in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Smoot had lived in the Atlanta area before moving to Blairsville ten years ago.  She was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by two nephews: John Hamsley, of Evansville, Indiana, and Leonard Cottongim, of Atlanta.  Many friends also survive.

No services have been planned locally.
