Mrs. Margie Pauline Elliott King, age 83 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 207.  Mrs. King was born Friday, April 11, 1924 in Union County, GA to the late George and Nora Griggs Elliott.  A member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Vaughn King; a son, James King and a sister, Opal Lovell.

Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, Hoyle and Patsy King of Blairsville; son & daughter-in-law, Harold and Gloria King of Young Harris, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Vaughn and Marsha King; daughter & son-in-law, Minnie and Welchel Garrett, all of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Christine and Roger Broome of Gillsville, GA; daughter, Linda May Beavers of Blue Ridge, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Martha and Paul Moss; daughter, Pauline Bridges; daughter & son-in-law, Carolyn and Tim McGaha, all of Blairsville; sister & brother-in-law, Bonnie and Edwin Lovell; brother, Floyd Elliott, brother & sister-in-law, Frank and Essie Elliott, brother-in-law, Frank Lovell; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Music was provided by Sarah Kelley and Sheila Eller.  Interment followed in Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Roger Garrett, Ronnie Garrett, Johnnie Garrett, Trance King, Terry King, Marty King.  Honorary pallbearers included the following gentlemen: Waylon Gibby, Rodney Broome, Jamie King, Josh Berry, Ryan Garrett, Zac Hazlip.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Saturday, November 24.

carlos william duckworth

 

Mr. Carlos William Duckworth, age 99, of Cook St., Blairsville passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2007 in Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mr. Duckworth was born on October 20, 1908 in Union County, the son of the late Steve Duckworth and the late Ellen Eller Duckworth.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Kelley Duckworth, also by five brothers, Buford, Vanus, Rufus, Sherman and Ransom Duckworth and by three sisters, Della Tanner, Bertha Holbrooks and Ardella Duckworth.  Carlos loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and most of all, he loved his Lord.  He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.  Mr. Duckworth was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist church.

Surviving Mr. Duckworth are one daughter, Betty Hood of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Donna Duckworth of Ducktown, TN; eight grandchildren, Tina Long, Tara Young, Cindy Hall, Gail Hall, Faith Rutledge, Tommy Duckworth Jr., William Duckworth and Bryan Duckworth; ten great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. from Harmony Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Stacy Dyer, Rev. Tommy Seay and Rev. Hubert Legg officiating.  Special music was presented by Heather Henderson and carol Renshaw.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Justin and Jerick Young, Paul, Tony, Jordan and Joseph Hall and Travis Rutledge.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Brent Long and William Young.  Interment followed in the Blairsville City Cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening after 6 p.m.

alma inez cochran

 

Mrs. Alma Inez Cochran, age 83, of Wesley Mountain Drive, Blairsville passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2007 in Clay County Care Center following an extended illness.  Mrs. Cochran was born on September 13, 1924 in Sycamore, GA, the daughter of the late Benjamin Logan and the late Mary Craig Logan.  She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.  She was preceded in death by her brothers, James and Willard Bearden.  Mrs. Cochran was a member of Zebulon Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs. Cochran are her loving husband of sixty-six years, Clarence W. Cochran of Blairsville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Dyer of Blairsville, Debbie and Trance King of Blairsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Genevieve Bearden of Cartersville, GA; two sisters, Ailine Cline and Celia Bearden Ross both of Cartersville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. from Zebulon Baptist Church with Dr. Don Pruitt officiating.  Special music was presented by David and Bret Chatham and Pat McCall.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Jason Rich, Travis Rich, Dakota Collins, Greg Dyer, Larry Rich and Bret Chatham.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were George Coke, Richard Coke, Welchel Garrett, Ronnie Duncan, David Chatham, Leonard Sosebee and Gene Sprayberry.  Interment followed in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.

john r. “jack” rogers

 

John R. “Jack” Rogers, age 83 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville.  Mr. Rogers was born Saturday, May 12, 1923 in Union County, GA to the late Roy and Ellen Mae Stephens Rogers.  He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a WWII U.S. Army Veteran.  Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lou butt Rogers and a son, Ronnie Rogers.

Survivors include: daughter & son-in-law, Judy and Mike Rogers of Cartersville, GA; sister, Mary Roberts of Wachula, FL; grandson, Brandon Rogers and Bradley Rogers; great-granddaughters, Kaylee Rogers and Ashlyan Grace Rogers.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. B.A. Buchanan, and Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Music was provided by The Faith Singers.  Interment followed in Union memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Jeff Butt, James B. Butt, Robert Butt, Riley Stephens, Brandon Rogers, and Bradley Rogers.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Friday, November 23.

carl herbert matthes

 

Mr. Carl Herbert Matthes, age 72, of Blairsville, GA passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Clay County Care Center in Hayesville, NC.  Mr. Matthes was born Saturday, December 29, 1934 in LaGloria, Cuba, a son of the late Roland Wolfgang Matthes and the late Edith Croft Matthes.  He had lived in this area for the past four years, moving here from Lakeland, FL.

Survivors include: sister, Barbara Alderman of Blairsville; and brother, Richard Matthes, of Whittier, NC.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 29, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Mulberry United Methodist Church in Mulberry, FL with Rev. Val Hattery officiating.  Music will be provided by Laurie Hurst, Jeannetta Joiner, and George Hatch.  Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, FL.

christopher lee parker

 

Mr. Christopher Lee Parker, age 30, of plot Town Rd., Blairsville formerly of Covington, GA, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2007 in St. Joseph’s Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Parker was born on march 3, 1977 in Covington, GA, the son of Ed parker and Mary Moody Parker.  Christopher loved computers and loved fishing.  He loved his pet dog Tricky.  He was loving and caring to his family, especially his nieces and nephews.  He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.  Christopher was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Mr. parker are his father and mother, Ed and Mary Parker of Blairsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and Rev. Wade Freeman of Covington, GA; one brother and sister-in-law, Ed and grace Parker, III of Peachtree City, GA; uncle and aunt, Billy and Shirley Moody of Covington; nieces and nephews, Amber and Ashley Freeman, Joshua Parker, Matthew Campbell, Sarah and Dani Parker; several cousins; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 2 p.m. in Covington, GA with the rev. Wade Freeman officiating.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Spina Bifida Organization in Christopher’s memory.

chloe davis cousineau

 

Mrs. Chloe Davis Cousineau, age 74, of Dahlonega, GA, formerly of Blairsville, GA passed away Friday, November 23, 2007 at Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega.  Mrs. Cousineau was born August 20, 1933 in Union County, GA to the late Monte Davis and the late Maude Davis.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Cousineau.

Survivors include: sisters, Vauda Burton of San Lorenzo, GA, and Grace Banks of Quitman, GA.  Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

No services are planned at this time.  Interment will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.
